We count on the United States Postal Service rain or shine. Our postal workers always show up, but we’ve heard from you that - sometimes - getting a package via USPS takes a long time or it doesn’t come at all.
With the holiday season fast approaching, we know there’s concern. So, we put the nation's mail service to the test.
It started at our studio in St. Petersburg, Florida. We got two medium Priority Mail boxes and two regular brown boxes to send First-Class mail.
We loaded them up and added GPS trackers in each. We sent the pricier Priority Mail box and the less expensive First-Class box to our friend, Haley Harrison with First Coast News in Jacksonville. We sent the same to our buddy, Chris Ingalls with KING 5 in Seattle.

Package left Houston TX to VA in 2 days, then took 3 days to get to belmar, NJ. Then to upstate PA and back to Edison Nj, then back to same site in PA and back to edison Nj. Then did that twice more for 4 trips total. Finally was delivered to me in cape may Nj, 19 days after it left Texas

We are having MAJOR issues with packages in central Texas as of August 2024. It's a mess, both myself and a friend who lives about an hour away have had a ton of absurd issues with both trying to send and receive packages.

October 2023, I watch as my packages are sent in crazy circuitous routes all over the US. Things that start almost next door are routed clear across the country. Held for days, then sent to just as nutty a location elsewhere. When I finally get the package, nothing is wrong with the label. This seems intentional, is this Louis DeJoy ordering the destruction of the Postal Service?

Exactly what happens to my small padded envelopes with silver coins in it. They route to Indianapolis when the route is from Dallas to Dallas…..like WTF. It goes to Indiana when it should never leave Texas????? Idiotic to say the least. Oh and they are thieves. Either your wallet or your packages or both. Thieves. Government backed thieves.

I have better luck sending packages than I do with regular mail. If I send a package 300 miles it gets there on time. I got an appointment notice from my doctor that arrived 2 weeks after the appointment date. Our mail has to travel 70 miles to a sorting center to be sent back and delivered.

I spent 40 years in the post office, the last 25 years in mail processing. You have a lot of people who care about your mail and a lot of people who only care about collecting a paycheck. Then you have the thieves that are postal workers and contractors who work for USPS. If those people don't get greedy, a theft here or there, your package is chalked up to being lost in the postal system I'm sorry to say. Sometimes packages get destroyed in transit due to vehicle accidents where a lot of the mail has burned up and there's no way to tell where those packages were supposed to go. Just remember if you aren't getting your mail or packages, check with your neighbors to see if they are having the same problem. If the post office sees there is a high number of missing packages or mail they will look into it, or call the Postal Inspection Service.

Had priority mail. Got it THREE days late... why did I pay for better shipping when it still took as long as if I paid less? Pathetic. Then they left the very expensive package at the FRONT of my porch for the whole world to see. Thankfully I live in a good neighborhood, but imagine if I didnt. 700 bucks out the window

Sometimes mail gets mixed up and sent to the wrong place or put in the wrong location. I knew a guy whose green card got put in his neighbor's mailbox by accident. The neighbor tossed it, not realizing what it was. Somehow this came to light when he was talking to the neighbor one day. Otherwise, it was basically "lost." I got a package to my address that wasn't for me (had my address but a different name--not an old tenant either)--no idea at the time how to find the intended recipient. For them, it was surely "lost." I heard a story of some mail that fell behind a counter or something for a very long time and were actually delivered when eventually found, but up until then they would be "lost." While some is surely stolen, sometimes right out of mailboxes like a family member of mine, there are plenty of opportunities for mail to get lost temporarily or permanently. Curb your sweeping conspiracy theories, please

I found 3 news stories where stolen mail was recovered from workers at the USPS, who stole the mail, in the past few days alone...Stolen mail is far far more the case, than lost mail.

One of the Tampa postal workers is stealing mail. I had a loaded Vanilla Gift Card someone sent me from Tampa and when it finally arrived, the envelope and the card had been opened and used at one of the grocery stores in Tampa and glued back in the package and envelope. And when it finally arrived after 7 days and many phone calls later the balance was $0 on the card. I called and had them find out where the card was used at. Seems the mail man or mail lady is scamming people out of money like that. I sure hope they catch whoever it is!

@Dimples Exactly right! Mine was mailed directly from the post office. I called the Vanilla card company and gave them the number off the card and the tracked down where it was spent and the date. Then it was put back in the Vanilla card envelope and glued with super glue which wouldn’t come off the card. They have a thief working there and I hope they catch them.

Within the states they are terrific. As a seller I usually have around 1,000 packages a year and around 4 packages become lost. When asking for a search 3 are usually recovered (0.1% failure rate). HOWEVER, I halted using USPS for international orders and only use more expensive FedEx or UPS which is a deal breaker to many customers. Too many packages and their replacement orders went to the Chicago international distribution center and just disappeared (75% between November and February). When you send a customer 2 orders, one a replacement for the first, both lost with search requests, then have to refund the customer it's time to call it quits.

I beg any of you to work in a usps facility for a week. I guarantee you'll quit after 3 days. Sometimes, new hired people quit first day. If I were you, I will feel blessed to have the opportunity to sell 1000 items per day. When we become ungrateful, Sometimes, God take that away. Live and let live. Meanwhile, Sir, when it's rain/snow , USPS is outside delivering your mail, when your house is burning down or your child is abduct, or your elders mother fails and need help, your usps stupid mailman calls the police to safe it. USPS saved so many lives and made so many people happy, besides delivering a stupid paper that it end up in trash anyway. USPS is an extended eye of police and firefighters. I used to hate them, I tracked my ex mailman, he was the worst, my parcels were delivered in purpose to neighbors, I used to call them weekly to report a mistake, until two years ago when I needed a job, and they hired me This is by far the hardest job, besides taxi/limo driver that I've ever done. I am far away from declaring that I love my job. Don't ever underestimate the potential of the stupid mailman. One day he can save your day or your life. Count on it.

I have huge problems with first class letters. Packages are fine. Priority mail is fast but expensive. Letters going to Kansas from Central Coast of California used to take a few days, now they take three weeks!

I once sent some critical papers from my home in Pasadena to my new home outside Boston, Priority 2-day mail. I then tracked my package crossing the US, from coast to coast, SIX TIMES, 3X back and forth, before it was finally delivered, too late to be useful, a month later! Sometimes I think the USPS is absolute crap, and sometimes, that is exactly what it is.

I remember lots of weird, confusing/controversial changes being made during 2020 when a new person was appointed over USPS. Now I need to go check if anyone has evaluated if those changes eventually did any good at all or just made things worse in the long run

I recently mailed some presents off to friends and one of them got mistakenly mailed to to England and back it made it to its proper destination 2 weeks late but the other packages I mailed at the same time all got there and there were also mailed to the same address

My 10lb/$150 USPS Priority Intl. shipment to Norway took more than 14 days just to get from Tucson, Az. to Los Angeles, Ca. Total transit was 35 days which is outrageous when you consider this used to take 9-10 days not long ago. USPS is taking a big dump and it stinks.

Yeah, well, maybe you can track down my package that was coming from China, arrived in Jacksonville and instead of being shipped to Tampa, was shipped to Dunnellon and then just vanished into thin air. That seems to happen a lot more with USPS than any other carrier.

Yeah I think people don’t understand what the mail actually goes thru. My aunt worked for the USPS and retired from the USPS. I think the USPS delivered 7.1 BILLION packages last year. There is a lot of automation and sometimes mistakes happen. As for letters I think they deliver 116 billion letters per year. Again mistakes happen, labels get chewed up, they get wet, the boxes break open, they get misdelivered. I think a valiant effort and care is made and taken by most postal workers but mistakes happen. I’m impressed it works at all, I couldn’t imagine managing a workforce of 625,000 people, pay, benefits, rules, etc and making sure all of them are always doing the right thing or all of them have the resources needed to work effectively.

Being stationed in Japan and USPS being the only service available to ship to military bases. It’s sucks. The avg time it takes to get anything shipped is a month to 2. Idk why that this but when ever I order from Amazon I can always get my packages 2-3weeks

We had over $250 in gift cards sent to family and friends stolen out of the mail dropped off at our local post office. They also destroyed the Christmas and birthday cards that were used to send the gift cards. Our family thought we were crazy asking if they got the cards. After 30 days we had to go buy more gift cards and mail them to family members. Thanks USPS

As someone who works as mail Carrier I always advice people on my route to never ever send gift cards or cash through the postal service unless it's necessary. Sad but there are so many thieves in within the postal service. Use UPS if your sending anything very valuable. Or pay priority mail so that you have insurance atleast.

lol I have never gotten a package through usps early it is very rare for me personally to get one on time and i couldn’t help but laugh about the 5 day ship time and especially the 3 day priority that’s hilarious. I’ve had packages enter my state and then jump 4 states away and then take the longest possible route going through even more states just to arrive back in my own state. The last straw for me and usps was a package coming to me from Kentucky, I lived in Mississippi the package hit north ms then nothing for days and days and all of a sudden it’s in South Carolina from there it went to Georgia to Florida and eventually back to ms. It was 2 and a half weeks past when it should have arrived

After watching a few vids on USPS and reading various comments, I'm getting pretty convinced that it's entirely dependent on the individual facilities that will handle the package. It seems like some operate like total trash while others are incredible--almost like they're franchises or something

I currently have 2 packages pending, both of which are supposed to be delivered today. One (worth over $200) is “out for delivery” in Shrewsbury, a town 50 miles from me. I DO NOT LIVE IN SHREWSBURY! The other package (valued at >$500) was due to be delivered today, and was in fact delivered to my local PO this morning, but then it was immediately sent back to Shrewsbury! F’nA! I have had several packages mis-handled in the last few weeks. So far I have always gotten my packages eventually, but the USPS MAKES A LOT OF MISTAKES! Why so? Don’t we deserve better?

Ive shipped 3 packages threw usps . They were lost or stolen after they hit Rodchester ny hub .a 4th one was shipped usps by mistake and guess what Rodchester hub and all ive gotten since is " in transit arriving late . No more updates . PAY EXTRA FOR PRIVATE COMPANY SHIPPING . Usps has way to many sticky fingers and not enough consequences for for lost or stolen packages .

I ordered a simple Phono catridge headshell, it supposed to arrive 15 days ago and I just received it today. What's funny is that I ordered another one from China 2 days later and that one arrived earlier that the one shipped from Philadelphia! :)) I ordered a Phono Cartride, it suppose to arrive yesterday, but instead it was sent to a different location and now I don't even know when it will arrive. Who ever is managing USPS gotta go, He doesn't know what He's doing and the staff should get trained or educated by UPS or Fed EX that are always on time.

I only use USPS for packages when I absolutely have to. As a traveler that works in more rural areas USPS never seems to be able to deliver when every other delivery company can. I’m a huge fan of cutting them out of the game. Can’t do your job time to go.

I’ll probably never buy anything online anymore unless I absolutely have to. USPS has delayed delivery to most of my packages, some packages were THROWN AWAY without any explanation as to why, and many were sent to wrong addresses. You can’t call them because you can’t reach a human being. And postal workers won’t give you a straight answer as to where your package is. It’s very inconsistent and it causes me so much anxiety and frustration whenever I order something. It’s just best to go to a brick-and-mortar store to buy it and take it home yourself, considering that the item you’re looking for is available where you live.

That was a null and void test, you shipped from major cities and to major cities, I am having issues just getting my packages consistently within a week or more, one time its 3 days, next time its a week and sometimes up to two weeks, from texas to oregon and its ridiculous!

The Post Office uses detectors that can tell why you are using a tracker so they deliver those packages as quick as possible. Packages without a tracker take the longer route (usually to a employees house so they can test the goods first) before reaching its final destination.

they never found my package. it was a wedding dress, very valuable. I believe it was stolen. funny thing too, the entire staff at that post office is no longer there, new people now. maybe they were caught stealing because there were so many complaints of missing packages. @@GDE_INC.

I agree. I mail over 200 packages a month. Only small packages or padded envelopes go missing. Mine had silver coins in it. It’s still missing of course because USPS are thieves even if they aren’t stealing your mail, they just rob your wallet and maybe your packages, either way this entity backed by the Federal Government is making about 6-7 BILLION dollars a year. Think about that. It’s corrupt. Shocking right?

I always have problems with the usps currently I send 2 copy’s of the same important curt papers for my that cost me $60 an they lost both of them one I paid $31 to mail over night an it just ended up at the post office an the other I paid $8 an it never left the post office I dropped off to An on top of everything I got a scam text telling me my address was incorrect an to put in my credit or debit for .30 cents re-deliver fee an I almost fall for it I even ask a post office employee about the message an my mail an they couldn’t help me or say anything if it’s legit or not this is insane like wtf is going on ! ?

The USPS has been a catastrophe of utmost proportions. Every year I hear horror stories of people who have lost their mail or had it arrived damaged because the USPS is so inefficient

Cant even Mail a package that's 40mins away? Ya id say you got lucky. One of my packages route was south houston to north houston to dallas and back to houston and has been stuck for 9days and is suppose to be delivered south of houston. oh And I have 2 other packages that are stuck in transit for 5+ days.

'Tracking' is done (scanned) at Hubs. The GPS does all along the trip

My packages get processed in NH then even though tracking will say delivery the next day the package will get sent to Maine or Pennsylvania or God knows where instead of Vermont. It will stay say they are on time even though they are in a different state and clearly were put on the wrong truck. From there tracking will just say the packing is late but on it's way no matter how many days it actually takes to make it here. They usually do arrive eventually. I never ship USPS unless there's no other option. Priority mail used to be great but not for years now.

Mistakes? Tracking is no mistake. They mishandle and steal. That’s the mistake bud. You’re comment must be coming from an experience thief that worked at USPS. You sound like a loser who blames others. USPS is not an educator yet they act like you should know what the F is going on. Yet they control it all. Yeah so a label mistake or hand written errors maybe. But with tracking. No. Just be quiet and let us talk about you and your cronies.

I can't remember the last time a USPS package actually arrived on the expected delivery date. Whenever I check the tracking now I just 1 to 2 days to it.

USPS paid them to make this video. They never send straight shot to the destination. It will travel to within 30min to an hour of the destination then get shipped states away multiple times before getting delivered and are often delayed. Its nonsensical.

I work in shipping and USPS is the worst. They charge the most for international duty/fees. A good portion of the time they lose packages. They are the slowest.
