Get Entered to WIN this legendary Artillery Luger rig!
go.getenteredt...
DEADLINE to ENTER is 07/28/23 @ 11:59pm (PST).
Today I'm taking an original (made in 1918) Artillery Luger rig out to a 6-stage USPSA match. I'm entered in PCC (pistol-caliber carbine) division using the detachable shoulder stock (note that this is exempted from the NFA, so it does not need to be registered) and the snail drum magazine. Happily, the ensemble ran virtually flawlessly through the whole match! Even better, I actually did reasonably well - certainly better than I had been expecting.

@normanmccollum6082
@normanmccollum6082 Год назад
@@VosperCDN I'm ignorant on the matter, but personally I like to think that Ian isn't the ONLY weirdo who goes with different kit and possibly also with a uniform an stuff. And indeed at least in one video I can vaguely recall I remember someone with I think an AK variant of some sort (possibly AKS-74U) and a Mosin variant of some sort (possibly M44 but cannot remember) duct-taped together with... Spongebob Square Pants duct tape. Based. Stupid... but based. lol I could be wrong and Ian tends to be the only odd duck (though if so, people must LOVE him, even if he wasn't internet-famous) but I mean, if I had the honor and privilege to be shooting with those skilled people (and even the one who does the worst in their specific 'division' is likely better-trained and more skillful with firearms than 99.9% of non-Military and non-Police civilians), which if I was then I suspect I'd have money to play around with... yeah I'd be a weirdo haha Once I get to America, yeah I'll get modern stuff and a beautiful American-made AR-15 and learn my local carry laws so as to legally daily carry likely while subscribed to that group that offers legal help for members who tragically find themselves in a situation of having to USE a firearm in self-defense (I think also if it's at home, not just carry-pistol, but I don't recall), I'm going to amass such a beautiful little private armory of goodies. Plus uniforms, oh and I promised a socialist online that though I have no genetic/historic connections with USA personally much less the US Civil War or 'The South,' I will find and purchase a Confederate Flag to preserve due to his desire to destroy all of them. He's probably a commie but says 'socialist' because it's 'gentler.' Honesty is not those people's forte. But yeah if I can become climatized to that horrific heat, I'd happily test out some kit that is as period-correct as I can manage so as to, pretty much, see how I would do with a Military loadout of sorts from a specific part of history and also see how my performance compares to more modern setups (I would probably be at the bottom or near the bottom, but the main thing is, I believe I'd have A LOT of fun doing it and would relish each and every chuckle with likely lots of hearty and wonderful conversations)! So yeah, I mean OBVIOUSLY practicing with my daily-carry pistol is most important, and undoubtedly I'd play it safe and just stick with that to get the MOST out of my first experience... but once I get a hang of it and meet people, talk to people, get a sense of the vibe, and get MAJORLY inspired if I saw a fellow weirdo like Ian all kitted-out and looking funny, then I'll be like "Okay, time for some more fun this time around..." Now I wanna think about some creative options lol Some courses allow for both a rifle and a pistol, other times it seems to be ONLY pistol which might be the most common one at least I think so, based on what I've seen of competition shooting of this nature, thus far. WWII US Soldier circa 1944-45 or so M1 Carbine (if full-sized rifle rounds are okay, I'd also like to try with the M1 Garand) M1911A1 WWII British/Canadian Soldier circa 1945 No.4 Lee Enfield Browning Hi Power WWI Commonwealth Soldier Mk.III* Lee Enfield (P14 could be interesting too but I don't think I'd do as good with that) Webley Mk.VI (I've owned one, never shot, lovely revolver though I DEFINITELY prefer semi-autos) Ooo... WWII Japanese Soldier? Type 99 Arisaka (bonus points if the mum is intact) Baby Nambu (probably just use a Ruger .22lr pistol, 8mm Nambu was a pretty weak cartridge anyhow) Now that's a funny thought, a big White guy kitted out for the Imperial Japanese Forces lmao OH! Vietcong SKS-45 (Chinese or Russian is fine) TT-33 Ugh, the grip angle though... I might cheat and use Tokegypt grips instead, those look much more comfy and natural for human/non-commie hands. I do quite like the Tokarev pistol besides that grip angle, but I believe I'd much prefer the Makarov PM even though it fires a less potent cartridge. Hahaha I could go on far FAR longer, but I'll call it quits here I think. Was starting to think about black powder and the Brown Bess with redcoat and Baker Rifle with greencoat and Kentucky Rifle with an 18th century US Minutemen uniform, etc. Oh and there's also Cowboy Action Shooting lmao Ahhhh, I love Military History and firearms, they go together with absolute brilliance and perfection. I adore these passions of mine and in America I could more fully partake in them. Just as soon as I can afford it. This was a lot of fun, I hope you have a great day :)

Hi Ian, glad you teamed up with an American company for your giveaways, however when I received my mug in the mail, I was surprised to see they have a factory in China! I’m soooo disappointed:-( I was going to make a video of its “retirement “ however I didn’t want to waste the ammo so I regifted it to the sanitary engineer society

The problem is these days that you just cannot get a lot of stuff from places other than China anymore. There probably are no mug factories in the US or Europe. Unless you are willing to buy hand-crafted pottery for 100 bucks per mug.

As a "pistol caliber carbine" it makes perfect sense. The Artillery Lugar is like a weird intermediary to the submachine gun, sort of like the M1 Carbine was to the assault rifle. It's also interesting that nobody had made something like the MP18 earlier as blowback rifles in pistol-ish calibers were nothing new.

I own a 1917 artillery Luger (no snail drum), which was captured by my grandfather, who served in the British army in France and Belgium. It is a fine work of precision engineering. But he told me that he preferred his standard-issue sidearm, a .455-chambered Smith & Wesson revolver, which I also have. In close quarters in a wet and muddy trench it was much more reliable, and threw a nasty lead slug.

The real question is how does it compare to an extended mag and stocked C96? Not the post war detachable mag versions but the 20 round integral mag that was available before/during the war. 20 rounds with a double stripper clip reload will be slower, but no clunky mags to haul around.

Funnily enough I imagine the biggest benefit for the lange barrel is just having a sight radius. I have a DWM 1915 Luger, and those early blade sights, combined with the the short radius, makes it not the most intuitive pistol to shoot. Made exponentially worse under time pressure.

33 out of 57 and that's with the slow mandatory field reloading and one bad load, not bad, I mean I understand you feel you did it slow, but because it is actually accurate and the drum doesn't fail you, it went out well. This is a damn good gun, now I can only image if you're with your C96 you could do even better at this.

Not "Artillery Luger" as you stated before. Looked good, as a EU Citizen, lack of Firearms, i will never be able to fire this weapon. Question, re the Reload and the minor difficulties it presented. Is that a lack of experience with this item? In the day they would have been drilled for countless hours. Or the actual inefficiency of the hardware involved? Also , how many Drum Mags were issued per person onto what type of equipment? Is there a "unique! leather/cotton/web magazine pouch for this item seeing as so many were meant to be issued?
@ForgottenWeapons

You can own and shoot that gun- in a couple EU countries.. I am German and i own one ...Just the drum magazines are not legal any more.. If you own one you are allowed to keep it, it needs to be registrated on you licence and you cant sell it. That goes for Handgun magazines with more than 20 rounds capacity and rifle mags with more than 10 rounds. 0:05 0:05
