As is common for battleships built in the 1940s, USS Alabama would see no grand duels with other battleships. She would, in fact, only use her guns on shore targets and aircraft.
Nonetheless, her story is one worth telling, and not just because she was fortunate enough to survive as a museum ship. This is, after all, the ship that first sighted the Japanese attack at the Battle of the Philippine Sea.
And a ship that, regardless of how quiet it was, gave good service.
