Spent 2 years on USS Kinkaid DD 965. Did lots of ASW training utilizing TMA. Kinkaid is laying 6,000 fathoms down off the Hawaiian coast. Used as target ship in 2005...

As an Operations Specialist, ASW was my favorite evolution in CIC.

The combine of infrared, and magnetic anomality to read better because submarines body with sound suppressive body can be invisible to sonar

The "music" is very annoying and makes it harder to hear the speakers.

I like the chill music and appreciate this production and presentation overall... but respectfully feel perhaps there's too much opsec violation ? Anyhow, just 'upgrade' the Independence class LCS with say, 4x VLS tubes per each side rear portion of back aviation deck , i.e., 2×4 VLS -- similar to how Japanese Navy Helicopter Destroyer integrates it's VLS tubes? Load with a mix of ASROC and possibly even some block 2 ESSM (?) and then continue onto the next vital tactical upgrade task at hand. respects to relevant, prudent, game-changing, cost-effective innovation and modification ✌🔛🌐

This is peak armchairing when you are not only telling the navy what is opsec but advising them on ship armament.

@@BeKindToBirds fair comment and thanks for reply. I would not promote or advocate for USN to publicly disclose particulars of any potential future capability modifications.

Would it have been more cost effective to have built a new sub than to have upgraded this older one? I don’t know, but the Navy needs to take these things very seriously from now on. We have a war to prepare for (but hopefully it never comes to that).

Costs much less to Refit a capable older platform, than it does to build a new hull.

@@micahrogers4928 How interesting. I wonder why that is? (It’s not that way for a car for example .)
@micahrogers4928
@micahrogers4928 3 года назад
True, but with navy ships, systems cost is the same, building new or Refit. Its cheaper to pull out old systems and install new, than it is to build a whole new ship for those systems. As long as the ship is sound, why not upgrade. A coue million for upgrade and 6 to 8 months downtime, vs a billion or more mire for a whole new ship.
