Meet some of the crew as they talk about the U.S. Navy's newest Expeditionary Sea Base (ESB) ship. The first of its name, the ship honors United States Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. John L. Canley, Ret., who was awarded the Medal of Honor 50 years after his actions during the Battle of Hue City.
ESB 6 is a highly flexible platform used across various military operations. The ship will be employed as a mobile sea-based asset. It will be a part of the critical access infrastructure supporting the deployment of forces, equipment, supplies, and warfighting capability.

At least they featured one merchant mariner. That much of a tour. Knowing many crewmembers who served one of the things lacking from the ships are elevators. You will get your steps in climbing from the engine room up to the house, or from up forward to the mission bay and the mess.

The new littoral combat ships were designed to be modular too. They gave up reconfiguring because it was more trouble than it was worth. Agree that a “tour of the ship” should have included a tour of the ship. Didn’t get much from a half dozen sailors telling us their job.

As a former sailor in the early 70's I will never get used to seeing navy personnel in camouflage.

My father served from 68-88 in the medical field, finishing up with a 6 year tour on the Nimitz…. I went army engineer…. Before he passed we had a conversation about this and came to the conclusion that yes it does look weird, but it simplified logistics snd the pattern would make it easier to hide the remnants of oily stains after washing

Licensed deck and engine officers operated the platform. The navy was responsible for the gun crews and armament.

My dad was a member of the US Navy Armed Guard in WW2. Sailors were the skipper, radioman, signalman, gunners mate and few other military function sailors. The rest of the crew were civilian mariners on civilian ships. The Armed Guard is easily searched on Google.

notice how we just started building these ships and commissioning them since Joe Biden was president? Notice how China has said they will use military force to take taiwan and Joe Biden has said he will stop china with military force? Notice how this ship doesn't have all NAVY crew, and it doesn't have Navy capital ship armored hull? (most of these are retrofit cargo boats) This ship was built to drop marines into china/taiwan with ospreys.
