USS Kauffman (FFG 59) underway on last deployment of a frigate 

Watching this brings back a lot of memories. I did my time on USS Stephen W Groves FFG-29. Sad to see all of the FFG's are gone but I suppose the Navy has to move on to the future.

Poignant I remember waiting for my dad to return from cruises at dockside. My mom was so beautiful and happy my dad picked me up and carried me on his shoulders. I am always touched by these scenes. Salute.

We hate and swear and cuss at them but sailors have a love of their ships maybe not the day you leave but at some point you realize how much you grew and the friends you made!

I served onboard her from 2007 to 2012. Some of the best and worst years of my life. Every one made me better.

Actually the last deployment for a frigate was the USS Simpson FFG 56 the ship my dad served on.

So weird to see these ships without the Mk 13 missile launcher on the foc’sle.

Goodbye old Lady, you served well. I served aboard Kauffman from April 91 to March 93. Took her to the Gulf and spent a wonderful time dodging mines in the NAG. Only non-mine countermeasures ship to locate mines without hitting them during the summer of 91. Won the 6th Fleet ASW Award during our transit to and from the Gulf by finding Victor III class subs in the Med no one else could find. Commissioned the USS Doyle (FFG-39) in 83 and deployed to the Med in 85 with the first LAMPS MK III det deployed in the Atlantic. HSL-42 Det 2 "Cable's Crew", flew the hell out of that bird during the deployment.

Without their Mk13 GMLS, the Perry was so horribly gimped that you may as well have just sold them to the puddle pirates.

Served aboard USS Crommelin FFG 37 when she was out of Pearl. As an ST, I've got to say I wasn't a big fan of the platform.

Its hard to see the old girl without Stir and the mk 13, they should have just replaced the mk13 with a VLS system and kept them. Once they got rid of the missile launcher it became nothing more than a glorified coast guard cutter.
