Drone Video of and ground tour of the Fletcher-class destroyer USS KIDD sitting high and Dry near the bank of the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge Louisiana.
USS Kidd (DD-661), a Fletcher-class destroyer, was the first ship of the United States Navy to be named after Rear Admiral Isaac C. Kidd, who died on the bridge of his flagship USS Arizona during the 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Admiral Kidd was the first US flag officer to die during World War II, and the first American admiral ever to be killed in action.[3] A National Historic Landmark, she is now a museum ship, berthed on the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and is the only surviving US destroyer still in her World War II configuration.

They don't make them like that anymore, 80 years later and she's still just a little maintenance away from being ready for battle. Fletchers were excellent ships, and a lot were built. It's good to know at least one is preserved so well.

Her mooring is designed to cope with the extreme changes in river level at Baton Rouge (hence the permanently installed hull blocking under her to hold her level when the river drops) but I’ve never seen any pictures with the water that far away.

"Ripley’s Believe It Or Not featured the USS Kidd, as the only naval museum that both floats and sits on dry ground. During the fall and winter months, the Mississippi River is low, and the ship rests on a cradle (you can actually walk underneath the ship during this time of year). When the water rises, the ship floats."

Once you know biblical end times prophecy and the plans of the NWO, you can easily see what is happening in the world. Please have an open mind and know that there is hope: accept JESUS CHRIST as your Lord and Savior today!!! Remember: JESUS is GOD, see John 1! My Dad was an MM on another Fletcher Class, USS Beale. I was an MM on the USS Richmond K Turner, CG-20. He got to tour the Turner when we were in NY Harbor for the Bi-Centennial in ‘76. I finally made it down to Baton Rouge and toured the Kidd a few years ago. It was pretty emotional, imagining what it was like in the Pacific during the war. The engine rooms were not open for the public, but the fantastic staff let me roam around down there for 45 minutes. At that time the river was just below the propeller hubs.

Not really, hull work needs to be done to it now but it won't be dry long enough to do the repairs. The plan is to tow it to a shipyard drydock in New orleans, probably Avondale. There you have all the time, equipment and manpower. Better than working in the mud under a tight schedule. The ship could be moved in a day, much easier than moving everything to the ship.

i've lived here long enough that i remember the last time the kidd was that dry (around the last time they fired a full power 5" blank for july 4th, which broke windows all over down town, concussion on the west bank was like getting popped in the chest) i don't remember being able to reach the screws, so the since then added casino mooring to the stern has allowed silt to accumulate under the kidd

Good opportunity for the museum to hire volunteers to clean the bottom hull, take pictures show some historical references of how the ship looks in and out of water. Heck it's a good opportunity to make a makeshift false dry dock so it looks like it's being worked on. So many opportunities

To the people saying "FrEe DrY dOcK" and "RePaInT hEr" That's not going to happen. 1.) Chipping, and repainting a vessel and one especially one of her age poses an environmental hazard. Even when you look at vessels like USS Texas for example who is in a floating dry dock, notice the buoys around the ship, and environmental impact studies and mitigation efforts had to be taken before she could even be taken to dry dock. So no such work will be conducted until then. 2.) Hypothetically even if plans had been submitted. NO ONE would approve of them, given the volatile state of the water level in the river, sure its low now, but for how long? IF work hypothetically began, and the water level began to rise, then what? Care for these historic vessels isn't as simple as just hastily spraying some now paint on the hull from time to time. I understand the concern, but trust me, most if not all museum ships are in good hands. Kidd had/s plans for dry docking in her future.
