I’m a US Navy Submarine Veteran, and I did 8 patrols on the USS Pennsylvania SSBN 735 submarine. Each patrol lasted approximately 82 days, and only once in my 9 years in the Navy, did I step onboard a surface vessel. I’m sorry to say, but I don’t remember the name of it…all I can remember is it was an aircraft carrier and it was at Bremerton Naval Base. About 10 guys off my submarine (including me) were invited by a crew member on the carrier to have lunch. My time on the surface fleet was about 1 hour. I remember being overwhelmed at the size of the ship, and asking the surface sailor how do you find your way around? He said first you find your bunk, then the nearest head, followed by your divisional space, and go from there! It’s funny, but at the very beginning of this video, you mentioned you served in the US Navy (thank you for your service), and that you would never have been able to serve on a submarine. I don’t think I would have been able to serve on a surface ship, especially after my exposure and experience with submarines. Completely different lifestyles and while submariners and surface sailors may share some traditions, there’s many that are exclusive to our respective communities. Excellent job with the video, and even though I’ve seen the USS Nautilus before, it was prior to me being qualified in submarines. Now, as a Submarine Veteran, I plan on going back to the USS Nautilus with a deeper appreciation and understanding. ETV2(SS) Glenn Scroggins

How ironic. My first duty station was the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) in Bremerton, WA… I did 7 years. Got out as an AO2 (AW)

"Knee Knocker" !!! ha ha ha... Great job man. I went to Sub school in '79 - I was a Missile Tech (MT) My brother served on NR-1 on display out front. You are so right about the smell, always takes us back. The 'museum' back then was one room and a library. This is a huge improvement, so glad to see it. Thanks for making and posting this - I'll have to visit it.

Good job. I did not realize that the compartments were sealed off with plexiglass like that. I have been on a few WW2 subs.... you can get into the spaces, and really look at things.

I’m at submarine prototype in Charleston, they didn’t design em for comfort, lol. Do they have any of the engine room on display here? I’d love to see how it was laid out compared to the 688 class I’m learning on.
