After watching this, click on my name- Mark West- to see some great DRONE VIDEOS.
Many thanks to all the USN Sailors- past, present & future. If you want to see everything that happens on a carrier check out this well done video from 1988 of a 3 day Tiger Cruise (it's 5 parts!). It's dated (aircraft, uniforms, civilian's hair : -) but impressively complete down to greasing the arresting wire.

That is just all totally awesome. I'm actually surprised they did carrier landings with so many civilians on deck. I guess that is proof of how skilled, maintained and quality it all truly is.

My first carrier was the Connie. We did a dependence day cruise. Put on a little air show for the families. An F-4 was going to do a high speed fly by at flight deck level. Aircraft was about 500 feet off the port side at flight deck level. When they throttled up for the fly by the aircraft exploded and fell into the sea in 2 pieces. Aircrews family was on the flight deck watching. We lost TEN guys on that deployment. Lost one to a drug overdose in Hong Kong, one to heart attack at age 22 and one to alcohol poisoning. The rest were NORMAL flight deck/naval aviation operations. Flight deck is not a very safe place to work.

If the Air Wing isn't embarked at the time then having hundreds of people along the side of the flight deck isn't a problem the pair of E/F Super Hornets F/A-18's were most likely from an air wing that was operating from their shore base, and while flight ops are indeed dangerous it is vital to show the American people how are carriers and their respective air wing operates!

Join the Navy and you can do it too... Day after day after day after day... You'll stare out at the ocean and see about 7 miles of water... Day after day after day. On top of that - 12 on/12 off work schedules 7 days a week. I have no idea why I'm so nostalgic about such a messed up time of my life :-)

You're welcome. It was made with a handheld gimbal and a cell phone. Then *lots* of editing!

Thanks for serving our country. I was AIMD WC-670 on CV-59 in the 80's. I was so thrilled to be able to ride on a carrier again... even if just for the day.

if that Rhino's right gear colapse during landing, then it's bowling time ..... Respect to the maintainers of those jets.

Whenever we had a tiger cruise they never let family get that close, I guess they loosened the restrictions over the years. I got out in 96.
