I have played high grade baseball and fast pitch softball most of my playing life. I have also played slow pitch. How I see it as long as your playing ball and being active then it's all a positive. Play ball⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾
@@toddjohnson566 Each to their own, how dare people get out and exercise and compete and have a social life and travel the land doing so ,they should have a good hard look at themselves .whilst others sit on their arse and click onto videos on RU-vid that they find offence and comment about it. Go figure big fella ....go figure
That's because slow pitch softball is most definitely a hitters game it definitely takes guts to be a picture you're a sitting duck out there I've seen many pictures take line drive directly to the face the ball comes off the bus so hard and fast that they just don't have time to get their glove up
Carencro, LaI called slo-pitch for about 25 years, both when I couldn't get a job for basic income and then later just because I loved it./ I called in the 1985 Crencro, La, USSSA World tourney. One of my all-time fondest memories. Best umpire ever was Phil Johnson, from Houston, TX...RIP !
For real lmfao. I know I'd love to be out there, but I was a first rounder in 14 lol started shooting dope and ruined my life. So you're for sure right lol only I know I woulda made that shit lolol
Back in my softball days mid late 90's we played in a tournament conference about every weekend, and played in leagues at least 6 nights a week for years, but the home run rules messed with the game, but we played Steele's one year and I have never seen anything like it, they would line up on 3rd base line so it would be easy to slap five to the one that just hit it out, they killed us 54-11 it was not fun at all,
I refused to play this for years. I was a pitcher and I had no respect for slow pitch... Then I got old and now I get hammered on Tuesday nights and hit frozen ropes.
@@BGBlitzball I’ve seen you somewhere I think the baseball bat bro’s right ? And I’ve seen you in baseball Tik tok’s as well you and me probably watch the same things.
so much hate in here! Slow pitch is much trickier than most think. I've played baseball my whole life on many levels and I always thought the same thing until I started playing it. It's a much different swing and timing at the plate for starters. Not to mention if you have a pitcher that can really get some rotation on the ball. Then you got fielding yet. I was a catcher who converted to 3rd base for slow pitch. After my first game at 3rd it changed my whole perspective about softball. When you have a bigger guy who's been hitting their whole being able to just tee up and rail the ball at you its no joke. I'd love to see those who say otherwise to stand there and let someone like Bubba Mack rope line drives at you!! I'm not afraid to admit I wear a face mask. The pitcher from my team wishes he was wearing one when he had to get plastic surgery from take a shot off of the face. Those being ignorant just haven't stepped out and see what this SPORT is about!! #BavarianLeague
James Harris That's right it take a little to get the timing ,it's totally different when you was played a do a long baseball. Now it's a matter of diversion.
I feel yeah man!! I played baseball for 5 years of my life and hitting a baseball was nothing new to me and throughout my whole life after baseball, i still had a pretty good timing of hitting an object that was thrown at me. when i first played slow pitch softball, GOOOOD DAMN was it an eye opening experience. Between relearning how to hit the ball, how to field it, and relearning the timing about the whole game truly changed my perspective and now im a full blown addict of slow pitch. I was a catcher who turned first baseman who turned second baseman who turned left fielder. Now im an all star left fielder/right center fielder. It truly takes some skill to be able to crank home runs each and every at bat.
Carl Rose 1 handed grip gives you an extra 2 inches of bat length from 34" to 36". I switched my grip in 1991 when playing with Carl Rose in league play. He gave me one of his bats. I also reduced my bat weight to 28ounce. Made all the difference in my home run power and distance.
Yes it's full size baseball field, 99 percent of these guys all played high school and college baseball some have MLB backgrounds, they play softball to stay competitive, these guys have jobs and families to take care of, their not trying to relive their glory days. All bats are checked and and they can only use bats that pass testing! Nothing against baseball but if you look up 2017 draft picks in MLB, the first 25 only two are still in pro baseball, just saying
@@raysanchez5829 I don't even need to look that up to know it isn't true.. Only 2 from the 25 from 2017 are in pro ball? You need to look that up again.. I bet all 25 are still playing.
Drew Aquino, I didn't look it up it was on ESPN, and yes some of those draft picks still play ball, some in Japan and some in the Mexico league, just fact my brother.
Just by Reading the comments I can tell many of you have NO CLUE... I dare you to try this game live and I am sure you could not do the same as these guys. I AM SURE OF THAT
I played open class softball for twenty years. We had aluminum bats and blue or red dot balls. We still hit them out but the balls got the crap beat out of them and by the end of the game they were like socks. It's a great game and you bashers couldn't get on the field with these guys .
@@darklordojeda it all started when the USSA decided to use red dot balls ! By the third inning they were lopsided and mush. So in steps the bat companies and they created these multiple alloy bats that would compress like a slingshot and magically 160 pound players started hitting the ball out . $300-$500 bats and some teams we played were sponsored by Easton bats and in tournaments they unwrapped 5-6 new bats just for tournaments ! I pitched for 15 years and it got very dangerous toward the end of my playing days in the mid 2000's . We played in a dozen state tournaments in Pa at Drifton softball complex and they changed the rules every damn year because of the bats and roofed up animals . I played legion baseball, Fast pitch and slow pitch and I loved slow pitch the best because it was action personified ! They ruined it when they allowed Demarini and others to destroy a great game !
@@strikeeagle6871you meant “roided up animals” right? I noticed there are very few players at this level that are below 200 pounds. At least half of these guys are on gear and I don’t blame them as they work .
Btw yeah I’ll never understand why they allowed bats in that allowed pretty much everyone to hit home runs. Watching many of these games is like watching home run derby and that’s not good
Not if you've played competitive high class baseball lol maybe if you never made it passed little league 😂😂😂 shit when I was in LL everyone was hitting bombs and throwing 80 lol that's why we were 2 for 3 in state lmao
@@derekbrowning5955 these guys are hitting the ball alot harder than any little league or high school team easy...you must not have played competitve slow pitch
No one is throwing 80 in LL. I played d1 baseball and modified softball as I got older. Playing 3rd with some of these harder Dudley balls is insane. There are different compressions and cores on the balls. The harder ones get hit over 100 mph and 3rd is only 60 feet away. That’s a much faster reaction time than mlb 3rd baseman.
Apparently the only criteria for a pitch to be called a ball is that the batter didn't swing at it. I'm in the 3rd inning and I think Doc has called 3 pitches strikes.
rules question: is this rule the same in slo-pitch softball as it is in baseball and fast pitch softball - batter is out if catcher catches a foul tip when there are 2 strikes on the batter?
@@donniehoward8438 - thanks . 1. does it matter if the catcher is standing up or knelling down or squatting down like a baseball catcher? 2. if the plate umpire is taller than the catcher and a foul ball strikes the plate umpire, is the ball dead or can it still be caught by the catcher resulting in an out? If it can't why why would the catcher not stand in front of the PU during the pitch ?
@@strikeeagle6871 that's not wat i was saying. Im well aware of what you're speaking of coming from pitching baseball in school and soft toss afterwards.
@@clayman478 years ago in the open class we had a two home run rule. If one team was up by two home runs they couldn't hit another until the other team pulled even . Teams with speed and single/doubles hitters could beat big hitting teams. Big money bat companies polluted the ASA and those rules gradually went away. Instead of overall athleticism you have 300 pound meat mountains. I loved softball and I played fast pitch and slow pitch. Slow pitch is much more exciting to play. I played in so many 1-0 , 2-1 games with unhittable pitchers . That's why fast pitch men's softball died a horrible death 25 years ago. I don't even know if it's played in all but a few places .
@@alexmouth3213 these are not professional athletes there slowpitch pappa. No matter who says it. I played a bit of slowpitch. Theres nothing professional about it. Just get some big fat dudes together that can hit it out. Takes no talent. You obviously play and i hurt your feelings
seeing all this hate about what kind of shape these guys are in, and yes a lot of them are "fat" but you don't necessarily need to be in tip top shape, but you do need the power and hand eye that they have, softball isn't an easy sport, it's just easier to manufacture runs than it is in baseball, but the game gets pretty difficult when you need to match another teams 30+ runs every game
Two things jump out at me here: first, what other posters have said about guys being out of the box, guessing they just waived that rule or something, and second, playing five-man on THAT field?
in usssa its not an active rule anymore that you have to stay in the box. it was changed pretty recently I believe. and yeah playing a 3 man outfield on that field would be rough lol
This reminds me of youth majors league hitting bombs every game with juiced composite bats before 2009. Lol good times this looks chill and fun to go hit with a bunch of guys.
i play all three baseball, mens fastpitch and slow pitch and honestly i hit a homerun in all three but yes all three are completely different i enjoy playing slow pitch nothing wrong with showing off your swing its all for fun it's really not that competitive like baseball and fastpitch tho i just enjoy playing i have so much love and respect for the game
Lol not that competetive? Im sure you could get a world championship ring but hey you dont take it that serioiusly. Id really like to see you take some swings beside Helmer.
Myles Vogel awe you mad cause you probably can't hit the ball for shit and it's only slow pitch I don't think you should be playing slow pitch if you can't drive the ball over the wall majority of the time you piece of shit
stepped out of the batters box and doesn't strut around the bases ... shouldnt count I use to play slo pitch and i hit a few over 300 ft but these guys are hitting it alot further .. its knda cool to watch
@Steve Scheunemann dummy? PLAYING DARTS SAYS ALOT ABOUT YOU, ITS LIKE SAYING IM A CHAMPION CORNHOLE PLAYER OR A CHAMPION AT THROWING A FRISBEE!!! ILL TAKE A PIC OF MYSELF SITTING IN MY $300,OOO BENTLEY OR MY $90,000 RANGE ROVER OR MY? NEVER MIND! GO PLAY YOUR DARTS AND TRY NOT TO GET HURT
It's underhanded, slow pitching. There are little kids out there doing this, on the weekends with their dads. Maybe they're not crushing the ball for home runs like grown men, but still, this game looks like an excuse for out-of-shape and past-their-prime guys to enjoy the rush of hitting a home run.
I've played at this level. I didn't like it. It's the attitude(s). The "my shit don't stink" is rife. I wasn't the hardest hitter on the team, nor am I now...there is a very a persistent belief that if you aren't hitting the ball out every at-bat, somehow you are less of a player. My OBP was the highest on the team and my fielding errors the lowest...still little respect. It is what it is, though. The teams are the way they are, so I parted ways rather than bitch.
I play babe ruth league baseball with close to the same size field so 325 to right and left and 400 to center and i must say this looks harder than that
I’m not as familiar with men’s softball. But in women’s softball they have some serious aggressive fast pitches. Why do men’s softball pitchers throw like they do?
