Let's take a moment to appreciate Eric in this practice match. It isn't easy trying to not embarrass himself and of course not embarrass our star, Winston.
It's been 5 months since I've been watching Winston. All my hats have suddenly turned backwards, and now my quads are so big I had to buy all new shorts. I now uncontrollably run around every backhand when I get the chance. I'll be back in a month to report further progress. Thank you Winston
This video is the best example of levels as you’ll ever see. Winston is a really good 4.5 player, but watch Eric’s body language during the points. He’s totally untroubled, no stress, smooth and easy footwork. Then Karue comes in with such a heavy and penetrating ball that all Eric’s comfort and confidence is gone. It’s just crazy how the levels go up and up.
@@WinstonDu And you did! What amazed me is that you hit a really good ball that would have excellent club players in all kinds of trouble. But Eric is a different level & then Karue’s level is just another planet!
Exactly. Man, this game is in levels and when you watch Karue hit with Giron you see they are stepping it up another level. Thanks Winston and Karue for this content.
Looked like Eric was going at about 50% there. Great match to see. It is difficult to realize on video how high an ATP pro's level really is because they are playing against another ATP pro. Watching Karue hit against even a good player shows the contrast.
Kudos to Eric for holding back for the benefit of this lesson. You could tell he was going about 50% and he was still doing well against Winston, who is no slouch. This video had some great examples of the difference between a 15, 11-13, and an 8 UTR. Always room for improvement.
Wow, having watched dozens of Winston's videos, I can readily say this is my favorite. I feel like I got my own private lesson from Karue! And the match was really entertaining, plus it was clear that Karue's coaching was helping Winston. And kudos to Eric for playing the "straight man". Would love to see more like this.
Tremendous respect for Eric. Thanks for putting yourself out there. You're an amazing player. This maybe just me but, Winston's intensity and footwork were something I had never seen from him before...he was killin' it. Of course thank to ma man K for helping him out. Amazing content Winston. Keep it up!! Cheers! M
That was insane watching Eric cruise the first couple games and then Karue came in and just pieces him up for two points. I thought Eric wasn’t going to get manhandled that much, man Karue is good
If you comparing Karue's serving motion with Winston's, it does not appear to be that much faster if at all, but somehow the ball just has so much more pop on it.
@@chubun6631 That's what I'm saying, if you watch all three play by only seeing their court side with no result shot, you would think they all would be around the same level because they've all got nice form and great strokes to watch, but damn the ball that comes out with less effort from Eric and Karue is wild
thanks again for putting out the gear checks at the beginning! It was neat seeing the differences in levels b/w all 3 players. Great video and very impressed w/ how Winston adapted his tennis.
This is great stuff watching Karue coach a pretty good player with some deeply ingrained habits! Probably won't be easy, but Winston hitting balls while falling back has been pretty noticeable in your videos, especially on your forehand. I think a lot of 3.5 to 4.5 players have this same issue and it's one of the visual cues that distinguishes a higher level player. Thanks to both of you!
Great video. This is the best stuff on RU-vid atm! Also having Karue step in and win points on command and hit corner after corner makes the diff between good rec player/college player and pro very obvious.
Looking very good Winston! I am working on the same thing and it is great to see you move through this with Karue's help. Keep it up! Oh, and Eric...sweet hitting, you are a great player to watch.
One thing I think Karue should mention - the degree of difficulty of the shots he wants you to attempt is MUCH MUCH higher than the degree of difficulty of standing back and letting the ball drop. Seeing the ball clearly is harder, spacing it is harder, and timing it is harder. Everybody misses a ton when they start trying to attack, because offensive tennis is a lot more difficult than neutral tennis. Eventually, the attacking forehands will become close to as high percentage as your current forehand, but only after a lot of practice. If you needed to win a match *today*, you probably shouldn't do it, although, long term, it's clearly going to make you better.
Definite improvement. One of the best sets seen Winston play. If only you could have Karue there for all your matches lol. Next is serve and overhead. Props to Eric as todays hitting partner.
Winston this is my favorite video you have done. It's great to see you play and than hear Karue's commentary right after. The educational value is 11/10
The collabs are insane! Love it! I like Karue’s style of coaching. His feedback is very simple and easy to apply. More big picture focused rather than tiny detail fixes (which there are an endless amount of in tennis lol). Winston you may as well make a run for an atp point at this rate 😂
Would love to see Karue vs Eric, Eric vs SayLes, SayLes vs Karue. These guys are top notch and if you keep hanging out with them, you’re game is gonna get there too Winston! Love the lesson & the uploads lately!
Man what great rallies once Karue was able to motivate you the correct way. For some reason when I watch his videos his teaching isn't as impactful as when I see him giving you pointers and seeing it improve your game makes it pretty darn good. Also it's crazy to see how us Normal players (I used to be a 4.5, at times I can play at that level but definitely more of a 4.0 or less player now) play against a D1 player... get outclassed but then see a player like Karue step in and you gain a huge difference in perspective on how far apart a former pro player is to a D1 (and a 4.5 player). I hope we can see more videos like this! Love the 3 way collab, man I doubt I can ever get to Karues level but somewhere between where I'm at and Eric's level is amazing. Also Winston you've definitely improved significantly from when I first saw your videos, keep it up man! Also we miss Lotti 😉
Loving this coaching series Winston and Karue. Very entertaining way to pick up and digest coaching tips. Appreciate both your efforts and shout out to Eric.
Honestly i really like the concept oh having you being coached at the same time because i can really relate to myself being clueless about what im doing wrong during a match and wishing i could get some cues.
Absolutely enjoying these open mic coaching matches, feel like if I had more coaching back in high school tennis days I wouldn't have stagnated for so long.
Learned so much from this video! I am 13, and looking to start UTRs this summer, and your videos have helped me improve off the court in my downtime. I just started tennis this year, but I have destroyed my opponents in district and school tournaments, and now am getting serious about tennis, and my coach says I can go varsity as a freshman!
I love love your channel Winston. Great work. I’m a big fan!! So many awesome things about it….I teach tennis but my kids are competitive juniors. I love that you are such a student of the game.
Winston dude it's great to see these videos coming up on my recommended. I'm long retired from tennis but just watching these makes me want to get back into it. I live right next to Balboa too I really should be hitting! Cheers mate keep up the great work.
Great playing Winston. You had some really good points there, especially later in the set. Eric’s play is smooth and solid control, makes you really work for the point.
What I notice is that Eric had plenty of time against Winston's ball and took many balls on the rise taking time away from Winston. That's why Winston was always on his heels and difficult to take control of the point. And it's simply amazing to watch Karue play a few points and it's all too obvious his shots are faster and heavier.
@WinstonDu this guy used to be a UTR 13 and you're more like an 8 and you held two solid games against him with a (relatively) poor serve. Incredible progress! Normally when the UTR gap is that big you'd expect a 6-0 thrashing, and you would have almost guaranteed that if you played your regular game where you just stay back - you'd have nothing to trouble him. Your rally forehand is good but its not going to trouble a player of that caliber. Awesome progress, loving this series and jealous Karue is not coaching me!
To be fair, Eric was playing very casually against Winston. You could tell he raised his level considerably against Karue when he jumped in on the 7th game at 2-4. But I agree Winston did very good and has definitely improved his game
Awesome, now off to men’s league. I will take Karue’s tips with me. Will provide updates, assuming I win. Two really strong Channels. Ps are you taking us to Indian Wells again?
I love this match play with coaching and commentary. Your on to something. Maybe polish this kinda content to make it better for viewing and content. But this is great 😂😊🎉
Great stuff Winston! I’m also implementing the same things into my game and it’s helped with players around my level and slightly higher. Keep it up bro!
Congrats on 30K!!!! I super enjoy your content. I am actually going to be in Palm Springs till Monday with Ian soing some coaching for Essential tennis!!!
It’s so fun to watch three players with significantly different skill levels. BTW: Winston is nearly the top of recreational players! Huge differences between pros and others!
I'd be interested to know Karue's thoughts on Eric's footwork. From my chair, it looked like Eric had plenty of time to setup for each groundstroke in the longer baseline rallies. Is this just because his footwork is really solid, or because Winston wasn't hitting at a pace that Eric found troubling? It can be hard to tell how fast both players were hitting from video compared to in-person.
Higher level players also anticipate very well, so it always seems like they are in position. I saw Serena play some years ago, and it looked like she was barely moving. But it was really because she anticipated so well, it was crazy. I also think Eric is used to seeing harder shots than Winston’s too.
Great job Winston and Karue good to see you implementing what you learned in your most recent lesson. You are 100% Winston it is more effort in the short term to be abit more aware and put more juice on those shots. But with the innate forehand weapon you have Winston if you get good at it you will end points on your terms and much earlier in the point.
This video is fucking phenomenal. I would love to see more videos like this with karue working on a certain aspect of your game for each of these kinds of videos. Also I just sent 5 dollars to your Venmo!
Winston, did you serve two games in a row? On game 6 and game 7, you served. I'm still watching the video, so idk if there was an edit where we missed one of Eric's service games and the score wasn't updated.
Correction, games 7 and 8. You were serving at 2-4, then Karue came in, and you served at the game point. Swiched ends, then you started serving at 3-4.
Hey Winston...what type of drills did Karue have for you to recognize short balls earlier and then moving forward?....Love the content...If you want to play down, I'm a 3.5 in Irvine, give me a shout.
i think i only saw one or two videos by you and the one thing i saw immediately was that you are just pushing shots back. yes it's somewhat of a style but u werent really attacking anything so it's good to see coach putting a finger on it. some shots are still a bit short (t-field) even when just pushing but it's turning around.
Can you share with us how you get connections with all the people you've played with? It's so hard to find a good player 4.5 and up and even open for a casual practice. Thanks.
Winston, how long have you been playing? Like, have you been playing since age 7 and are now doing some coaching to improve some aspects of your game, or did you start just a few years ago and are just trying to improve overall? I'm new to tennis, so it's not like I can tell whether what you are experiencing is for someone with a lot of experience or a more modest amount. I've heard that a 5.0 level is about the highest a recreational player can get unless they played for a long time such as into high school and college.
