This is part one of an interview that Utada did just an hour's drive away from me TT^TT Utada was sooo close..... yet so far... I didn't even get to hear it on the radio, but at least I got this. xD
I cant believe the Britney Spears comparisons...they should listen to some of her records before saying that. I'd say Ayumi is the Britney Spears of Japan...Utada is just a totally incredible singer period and in a league of her own
So it's funny the second part of this interview is not up anymore considering the fact it's wherein she mentioned it's okay if you download her music for free if you are broke.
Hikaru is such a class act for not taking the obvious bait and taking a jab at Britney. I understand it’s annoying to constantly be compared to Britney, but imo A) it’s stemming from ‘Muricans needing to give the audience that’s not fimilar with Utada’s music some point of reference AND 2) being compared to Britney is not an insult. Sure, what Utada does is more experimental and almost Bjork-esque, but Britney is an incredible artist in her own right.
"lol that's sorta what happened to me... 2 years ago.." Utada became a legend long before Britney Spears. A behind-the-scenes legend, but a legend no doubt.
They both made their Official debuts in the same year so not really (Hikki with Automatic single in December of 1998 and Knee with the Baby One More Time single September of 1998). Cubic U album did come out first technically but hikki did not gain as much recognition from that record necessary. It was more of a Demo album
I LIVE THREE HOURS FROM PORTLAND. :D I love her so much...I really wish she hadn't have gotten sick when she was going to do the signing in Seattle. :(
I don't hear it at all. I don't think Utada would sample her songs out. Especially to Britney Spears. Why perpetuate the Britney Spears Comparisons even more when she doesn't even like the comparisons. I don't think so.
