This fish in Utah is know as a heartbreaker. There have been many anglers who have attempted this subspecies of native Utah cutthroat and failed due to their limited range and the extremely small creeks they live in. In Utah, Yellowstone Cutthroat can only be found in the northwestern corner of the state. The only thing more beautiful than the Raft River Mountains are the Yellowstone Cutthroat that dwell there. We had great success on this trip and got “slammed” out by catching the fourth and final sub species of native Utah cutthroat.
The Utah Cutthroat Slam is a challenge that is put on by the Utah Division of Natural Resources and Trout Unlimited here in Utah. The challenge is designed to get anglers out to try their hand at catching all four subspecies of native cutthroat trout in their native Utah ranges.
