The Kahler Slater/Marmon Mok Join Venture team has designed a 197,000 square-foot state-of-the-art dental clinic facility to improve dental education and training for the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSC-SA) Dental School.
The new freestanding teaching dental clinic facility will improve the university's ability to provide multi-specialty care in one location with an enhanced patient experience. The vision is to attract additional patients and ensure the school's ability to obtain and conduct clinical research, sustaining continued excellence in education. Ultimately, the goal for the new facility is to provide oral health care for the region.
The new clinical training facility will enhance educational and clinical interactions between clinical specialties. It will include comprehensive dentistry, endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery suites, periodontics, simulation labs, radiology, clinical research space and faculty practice areas. The design will incorporate the latest technology and will have a patient-centered approach. To be located directly adjacent to the University's Medical Center, the new outpatient medical care clinics will greatly assist referrals and management of patients with oral health conditions.
A notice to proceed was issued in January of 2013 and construction is expected to be complete in September 2015.
