@@nicolasmachado447 Thanks for the compliment!! I am also starting fairly new and have just started picking up the techniques from other youtubers. I use adobe after effects with the geolayers add on if that helps. I'm quite fascinated with maps so decided to invest some time and $ in it.

Really good video! I have done UTMB 3 times and this video represents extremely well the terrain from Courmayeur, though of course the first section to Bertone is different . Very good filming and editing- first class. One suggestion: speak a bit in the videos and make some comments about how you are feeling or whatever , it helps to keep viewers engaged. Of course here the scenery is so good that it’s easy to watch! There are a lot of videos out there, but this one shows a lot of detail at the aid stations. The scenery looks fantastic in the video, but, as you know, in reality it’s far better! Certainly some of the best views in the world. Well done!
Thank you very much for the comment and suggestion!! I was debating whether to add voice over as numerous other UTMB videos have done. It was a 50/50 choice with pros and cons either way. However, I ended up not including those because I think my voice (which is not particularly attractive) would take away the experience... also, in the actual race, I felt unnatural for a regular runner to be making comments out loud, so including those in the video would just make it unauthentic. I elected to add subtitles instead. Hope the essence of the experience was shown. I might test out your suggestion in future videos and see how they work out as well! Yes the aid stations were a big mystery before the race, and I might have overprepared for the unknown. I wanted to add information about them to help future runners (Good Catch!!) Maybe I could do the full UTMB one day and see the rest of the course with my own eyes. YES! Reality is better!! Appreciate your feedback and happy running!!
@@RunThatMile Thanks for your feedback. I don’t think you need to worry about a regular runner talking to the camera while you run. I do it in my videos (not as good as yours!) and I’ve got used to it. Stephen Cousins of Film My Run does a great job talking to the camera. Actually, he made one of the best CCC videos ever too. Once again, thanks for the video. I will watch it with friends who are going to run in Chamonix this year ro make comments and advice. Keep up the good work!

Final re-watch of the video before race day tomorrow. Ran the last segment from La Flegere a few days ago, and it was super helpful. Unfortunately, they threw us a curved ball and activated hot weather kit 🤦♂️ It’s gonna be one tough battle. All in all, thank you again for helping me prep for the race!
Excellent job! I was there too and for me it was my first experience with running around Mt Blanc. I remembered all passages from video but many of them I didn´t seen, becouse for me the night started behind La Fouly. You are very good runner, your finish time is my dream! I finished this race in time 26:29, excatly only 16 seconds before limit time...🙂 But this year i have got second opportuniti for improve my finish time in this race...

You tell that story really well. Well done on such a hard race. The elevation and map were really helpful, thanks for taking the time to do those. One thing to think about for next time. When you’re showing the map, show it full screen, as it cuts off the rest of the screen, and I wondered what I was missing out on, rather than concentrating on the map. Really liked your titles at each point. Very coherent. Thanks.

@barautbachjaume beautiful images that made me remember my participation in the same year as you, I managed to reach Trient and my stomach told me enough, I was very tired and health is the first thing. Eager to come back and get it. Congratulations for the effort before the race, during the race for your mentality and strength throughout the race, it is not easy to achieve.
Thank you for your kind words! The stomach is definitely one of the main battlegrounds, more so than our legs I think. I had stomach problems starting from champex but fortunately made it through to the end, I had to stop several times after vallorcine to let the pain go through... Barely made it at the end. I might have had too many power gels. Hope you will return and finish the race!!
Thanks!! Glad the camera didn't disappoint. Yes the long lines is quite a scene, I was surprised myself...but it only happens one day in a year so you can follow the route on any other day (I have the gpx available) and enjoy the trails to yourself. Making friends along the climb and slowing my pace in the beginning helped my experience for the day I think.

Thanks for the compliment Jonathan!! Hoping you have a speedy recovery so you can enjoy UTMB the best you can!! Good eyes, I was wearing a pair of Altra King MTs which I highly recommend. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have continued the line. I also wore the Altra Lone Peak for other trail races, and those have worked well for me. (Big fan of Altras after trying out Salomon, Hoka, and INOV-8). The warm top I wore throughout the night (without need of a jacket) was the long-sleeved compresssport top (UTMB-edition). It fulfills the mandatory gear requirement and should appear in the UTMB site closer to the race day. I actually bought it 2 days before the race in Chamonix as a useful souvenir. Be on the lookout for a gear video I am creating that should be ready in the next 2 weeks. If you have further questions about gear, I am happy to answer here as well!!

Yes, also an Altra fan and with my ankle injury seems the only shoe that is not too painful. I am currently trialling the Altra Superior 4 which I really enjoy but not sure if the cushion is enough for the 101 km. @@jonathangrendelmeier575 I think CCC is the perfect distance for the "not-so-hardcore" crowd to experience the great UTMB. The first section unique to CCC is worth its value already =) I am so happy you enjoyed the video! From my own experience, my foot and leg felt much stronger and less prone to injury after I switched to Altra. If your legs are sufficiently strong enough and not a heel-strike runner, the cushioning is less important and the Superior would work fine. I'm not sure for your circumstances, but test the shoes for a long day hike or some long trails to see how your legs react. A slightly more cushioned shoe such as the Lone Peak or the Timp may be good options in case your legs need some extra help due to the injury. Thanks for subscribing!!
@@RunThatMile Thanks again for your advice yes agree. I am so excited already and it was really useful to see how long you spent at the aid stations as well as I normally just pass through. I have done some trails on the superior and for some reason I just really enjoy it so I think I will give it a go. I will test it on a rocky 50 km Ultra in 2-3 weeks. Strange as I did my injury in the Lone Peak 4.5 and was a bit worried but I think the Superior just works better for me and it encourages me to run midfoot which off loads my heel and ankle massively. Sure you will let us know on the gear video but just wondering if you used some gels and electrolytes. Did see you tucking into some soup and pasta :-)
@@jonathangrendelmeier575 I think I spent decent time in the aid stations, and that helped me feel okay through to the end (I wasn't competitive with time). I did the time estimations and I was able to afford 10 minutes at smaller aid stations and 30 minutes for dinner. (And the aid stations were part of the experience so I better make the best of them) The nutrition plan and aid station will be another video in the works, separate from the gear video. But yes, I took lots of gel (too much and caused some stomach issues), and plenty of salt sticks. Eating pasta at Champex-Lac is a rite-of-passage 😆I also tried to eat the crackers, chocolate, and fruit at each aid station. Similar to you, I find that less-cushiony shoes encouraged my feet to land proper and absorb the shock much better. If that works for you, then great!! I had the original version of the Superiors but they wore out pretty quick and got slippery fast, might need to give a try to the new and updated versions!

very nice footage. Really, probably the best I have seen from the UTMB / CCC course. Could you please share what camera you used and what kind of video editor and mapping software. I am going to run CCC this year and I also plan to make a film about it.

Got some more questions if you don’t mind: 1) Since cold weather kit was activated, I believe weather was colder than usual, but lowest temp is around 0 degree? 2) About what percentage of the race did you run and walk? 3) What’s the toilet situation like at aid stations? Long queues and filthy? 4) Which climb would you say is the toughest? Many said the official map can be misleading. Thanks!
Thanks for the comment and sorry for the late reply! 1) Lowest temp was around 0 degrees for me, but it could go worse if you were hit with bad weather. The 2nd night of my CCC (after I finished) had some portions with stormy weather that was challenging for some. 2) I ran/jogged 80% of the downhills, 40% of the flat, and 0% of the uphills. Feels like a strong fast walking pace throughout is sufficient to complete the race within the time limits as long as the breaks weren't too long. 3) I used the toilet almost at every aid station without any line. I would say the toilets were kept in a great clean condition. The dry conditions also helped. 4) The first climb was the longest but you would have been the fittest. The last climb is shorter, likely in the dark and you would be exhausted... so hard to tell. I felt the climb after Champex Lac was the toughest once we were in the dark. The official map is quite accurate but the body feeling will be different.

I also downloaded the Excel spreadsheet from your website and noticed that cutoff is quite tight at the beginning but not so much towards the end. Hopefully, like you said, a fast pace walking will help me complete the race within the time limit. Will you be racing again this year?
@@macau.friend It may seem like tight in the beginning, but it all works out quite evenly in reality as we get into different paces at different stages. It still works as a good reference. Unfortunately, I wasn't lucky with the lottery this year so I wont be making the trip in August. Good Luck!!
I started in the 3rd wave, so there were about 1000-1500ppl that started before me. For my experience, there was quite a line for the first 10km (that could slow you down), then you would be running with people about the same pace for the next 10-20km (about entering Switzerland), then I think the crowd spreads far enough that you basically have the trail for your own pace.
Watched it just now with my wife. Ran the ccc in 2018 myself and you captured the course so amazing beautiful! Now my wife have seen some of the segments she weren’t able to see. Hope you have plans for some more great races 💪🏻
