Pyro is a bigger RU-vidr therefore he created the idea that this channel would shamelessly steal 2 years before. (That’s a joke by the way I’m glad this video exists it’s well put together)
In fact I figured out that the Pyro video would be about the exact same show based on the title of both. Funny cuz that was the first time it made me think of Utopia after a while
Smh, how could you shamelessly steal from Pyrocynical, just 2 years before his actual video came out. Edit: I just came back to rewatch this video and HOLY SHIT, look at these likes.
@@RecDougs i think he nabbed some content from this video, but still made it in his own way. this video is still amazing, and i think it gets the stuff condensed much better
@@ihavenoname1136 Well this video is pointing out what the show does well and how it is a good film. Pyro's was a full rundown of everything that happens in it
Why can't they instead of doing a whole remake, just give us a season 3 with the same cast? I can't image anyone other than the original actors pulling it off so well.
@@cybermiguelo I'm not sure that a following from a bad show would be appreciated... I prefer the ending of season 2 with some mystery than a bad season 3
@@lukedudley5030 true but it’s not like other shows where they make it up as they go along, they had a three season plan from the beginning it just didn’t get made
@@kaiytx so the pandemic being released were to kill I think a couple of million, and then when everyone is given the vaccine then only 1 in 20 can get pregnant. It's been a while since I've seen it though
I started this video then left to go binge watch it and... I’m literally speechless. That was some of the best tv I’ve ever seen in my life and it left off in such a way that I can’t live without knowing what’s next. The characters, the aesthetics, and the plot were all top tier. I have to force one of my friends to watch it so we can talk about it together because I cannot live without discussing this with someone. Like literally what just happened???
Didn’t even stop by to make a Pyro joke; this is a fucking great analysis, and both videos are great in their own rights. Really interesting analysis, particularly that music analysis in the first five minutes or so. Excellent work.
Literally accidentally watched it trying to watch the 2020 version. Def was the best mistake I made. Then watched the new version and was like..... this is how I felt after watching the Netflix Death Note movie. Wasted time.
I can at least credit the Death Note movie with trying to do something significantly different with the story so it can be better judged on its own merits (it's still awful though, I made a review of it). But the Utopia remake had far too much in common for it not to be compared to the original, and there was no way it would win out in that respect.
Hey man , you know something , I wanted to watch utopia , when the show was out I didn't have time , so I thought I'd watch it later , now , when the show came in amazon , I thought it was the original and I must tell you , the disappointment faar too much to bear , now that I watched the video. After watching that , I always felt the show had a good concept but very poor execution but after watching this video , I realised the grave mistake that I made
it's not easy finding the original uk verion online... i settled for the 2020 version. just finished episode 2. it's ok.... but after watching this review, i think i need to find the original.
@@mr.feeny-5 finally found it!!! ...... yyyyeahhhh.... 2020 is trash. Bad trash... poorly adapted. The original version is the only version worth watching.
So now, when the new version on Amazon just dropped, THEY'RE CANCELLING KEEPING UP WITH THE KARDASHIANS, TOO!!! NOTHING good lasts... I hate this world!
Honestly, I blame the marketing. I saw it everywhere, but I had no idea what it was or why I should watch it. It was so abstract and unclear. Now that you've explained it to me, I actually want to give it a go.
i decided to check it out recently, i remembered seeing ads on tv at the time and the colour pallete / name definitely caught my eye, but i also never watched the show when it aired. maybe you're right about the marketing
The soundtrack, the cinematography, the colour grade, the characters, everything in this show is absolutely incredible. It’s up there with Breaking Bad for sure and it’s so peak it got cancelled, the way the first series is yellow and the second is green is genius. I’d take that bleach for a season 3
I’ve shown Utopia to so many people, and not one of them disliked it. It’s a fucking incredible show that never got the recognition it deserves. I wish it had blown up and a wider audience got to experience it. Hopefully the new adaption will do it justice (but how can anything live up to the beauty and wonder of UTOPIA?). Fingers crossed. 🤞🏻 I loved your video. It makes me so happy to see other fans as obsessed as I am with this gleaming gem. I subscribed to your channel, keep making videos, this was an excellent watch, and I’ll watch more of your content! XO
I started it just for fun, but found this to be a gem. Just incredible, amazing to the point that I started agreeing with the Harvest. The things they say and do because they believe it's good for humanity. And fuk the new remake
@@mohammedfaisal2914 How? We have a global economic system that DEPENDS on an ever increasing population for its survival. It is far more likely that nature will take us out before the rich and powerful ever do because their wealth and position depends on more consumers being born year after year in order to soak up ever increasing levels of productions of goods and services in order to provide increased profits year over year as capitalism and its major investors demand, regardless of the physical constraints of a finite earth which global capitalism is in complete contradiction of. When you understand the world systemically, you can discern bullshit from reality with a better success rate.
@@Nine-Signs in some respects I mean the whole scenario unravels awesomely but the poignant part is where the gov just confuses the shit out the masses.
@@mohammedfaisal2914 Well on propaganda it's not the fault of government as such, what it does is a symptom of a cause. It's the fault of the top down anti democratic economic system bolted to democracy that incentivises the wealthy few to buy politicians and media of all sides simultaneously, in order to ensure that no matter who anyone votes for, that democracy will never be allowed to change economic policy, and to manufacture the consent of enough of the population against their own best interests, in order to get them to vote for the policies and politicians the rich want. It's a game far older than capitalism but still just as effective.
i'll never get over this show's cancelation the same way i'll never get over silent hills cancelation. it is utterly unfair that it got cancelled... but i'm glad with the good news about an adaptation. it would be great if they decided to keep the original cast. can you imagine?? oh man..........
cris_ dsc Two of the most tragic cancellations in history. Being a Silent Hill fan, and a Utopia fan is probably the most painful for us with how much potential they had. But yeah, fingers crossed the adaptation is going to do the original justice.
Before people say 'pyrocynical' Rec's fucking amazing video tends to focus on the first series, watch his breakdown of his throughts, the mention of the *upcoming* sequel in the Netflix video is brought up Pyros is a compare and contrast essay of the two shows in 7 hours of evidence-and-narrative-driven analysis, in summary. He draws the same conclusions of brilliance the show had in its weekly presentation, Both have their merits, both aim to do two different things, even if both share the same conclusions and points of fascination and good cinematography this show had.
Pryrocynical made a long-form video essay on an amazing British t.v. show called “Utopia.” Something that Rec Dougs would shamelessly steal 2 years prior.
The thing that gets me about this show is that while so many British shows are unrelentingly brown and gray and visually boring, Utopia looks stunning.Tonnes of effort is put into the cinematography and the shot selection and there's so much bright colours and interesting lighting choices used to great effect.
I'm so angry prime made a remake instead of listening to the still incredible committed fanbase and continue with s3, because there's no way that american atrocity could EVER even come near this original
This is better than any other show. It's not just about power for the sake of it. You find a deeper meaning in what these guys, good or bad, try to accomplish. God I really wish it wasn't cancelled. it was true art!
Visually stunning and very interesting video. Fingers crossed Amazon can revive Utopia so it can get the recognition it so deserved. Also, editing was delish
The only thing I don't like about the Amazon version is Jessica Hyde's behavior. In the British version, she's a survivor doing whatever it takes to protect everyone. In the US version, she's a complete psychopath who ruthlessly disregards human life. Ian's American counterpart is also a lot less likeable. Other than that, it just has a different flavor.
I remember my friends and I starting to watch this show. By episode three it was just me. The realistic violence, delayed revelation of plot and dark themes pushed everyone else away. I'm glad there are at least 7.9k people out there who appreciated it as much as I did.
And Dark was setup so the whole thing could have been a closed loop that restarted back to season 1. But they chose not to go that route and really tied the whole thing together, showing us why we were watching that particular timeline.
I can't watch the rest of this video until I watch this show. I'm just entering the soundtrack portion and I am sold!! Watch a few full ads as support till I get back to this video.
Personally I think the ending of Season 2 with no continuation is the best ending a show like this can have. It's bleak and filled with mystery, just like the rest of the story. The world is never saved, there is always someone ready to take the villain's seat. Of course I'd love to see more, and same as you (and I'm sure many others) I don't really have much hope for the adaptations capturing the same atmosphere again. I still tell people to watch this show haha, it seriously is the best show they've never seen.
Great show. I stumbled onto this back in 2012 and, as an American, I think I was the only person I know who's even heard of this one. This show was on a whole other level. The music, the colors, the violence...
And I disagree re: Dark - it answered the preliminary question (Where/when is Mikkel?), and then moved on to the other questions naturally posed by the nature of Mikkel's disappearance (time travel, time loops, free will, how time travel affects genealogy, how past/present/future impact each other). I didn't think this was a cop out at all, I merely thought the show chose a simple entry point (missing child) into a highly complex breadth of story (see aforementioned). Anyway, really enjoyed your video - thanks for taking the time to make it!
Dark is also a fully realized loop with multiple characters traveling through multiple time periods. It's like they were able to do "Primer" as a show and with a larger cast. And Primer needs fucking charts, graphs, algebraic notations, and Excel spreadsheets to understand a story with only 2 main characters for less than a week. Dark has over a dozen characters interacting over a century, yet somehow still had few (if any) plot holes.
Dark answers and poses questions at the same time which makes it gripping while also giving you enough answers to feel satisfaction, I think he didn’t watch the whole show, I know that’s an annoying problem but I don’t think Dark is a good example of it
dark is just too boring and long it doesn’t interact with your interests dark should end in 1 season not in 3 they were using no 3 at multiple occasions in entire series but it makes so boring
Because intelligent shows make people think. Thinking people question. Those questions lead to change. And that change could topsy turvy the whole Cabal slavery system.
At first, like everyone else, I was devastated upon hearing the show was cancelled. Took me years to get to grips, that it would not return and not enough people watched Utopia - what!?! Then I had a moment of clarity (spoiler) - The ominous end of season two, was the perfect ending. The characters been dragged away. Wilson Wilson switched, with a new mind set and the final scene with him standing over the next stage of the 'network' plan. The ending leaves you wanting more and explains nothing. It allows you, the watcher, being left clung on and left with nothing but; frustration, amazement and your own ideas of what would come next. Perfect ending
Showmanship George! Leave with them wanting more. It was incredibly disappointing to not get more of this brilliant show but they did end it quite well.
This break down and analysis strongly convinced me to check out utopia right after but i'm so honoured that mr robot was mentioned as the sort of heir to utopia because that show ranks so highly as one of the best shows i've watched, hands down.
ITS SO BAD. i knew it’d be bad when they renamed the first utopia comic to “dystopia”, and also explained the entire story to the camera at the beginning instead of explaining it gradually. like its SO bad.
@@jamsquan9415 ?? But saying stuff in dialogue is literally what uk utopia does, the pacing is off and the acting is awkward, the writing is not refined and the direction feels aimless, theres so much said but not enough shown
It’s so strange I’ve loved this show since it aired and I’ve watched it almost every single year since with a new friend, each person has adored it, I genuinely think it just needed more exposure to a younger audience, like misfits and skins did, because it’s such an amazing show even my grandparents loved it.
@@oldmoviemusic i totally agree, we as fans might have the power to get the third season :D if all of us yell out loud that we want it. And get new watchers into the old show.
@@TheAxeWorld1 u know what u could do aswell, a comparison video between the real one and the american one. Not to spoil stuff but talk about the cinematography the character development the music the actors. Since the actors did their roles so incredible well, and the music had such depth and worked so intricate with the theme, story and characters, i personally wonder if the american version totally just ignored that and just have backtracks ect. U could do like a three or four episode on that. :D
@@lupowins I know right, so surreal. You know what, I bet you anything that's exactly what's going on now... they are going to make everyone get a vaccine and that is going to target certain groups of people and make them infertility and/or fuck with their DNA. It's not even that far fetched.
Years and years (TV series) Trump drops a nuke on China in his second term. Then pence gets elected after Trump's 2nd term. England starts rounding up (in concentration camps) and exterminating refugees.
I love how every video on Utopia talks about the soundtrack. I literally found the show via the soundtrack, which appeared on my RU-vid feed one day. It's so unique and somehow doesn't get boring for me even though I listen to it all the time XD
If you like this you will likely find the Amazon reboot a bitter disappointment, stripped of much of its dark themes and music, that made it so unsettling.
@@lomo3362 It's not darker its just gorier. There is a massive difference between psychologically chilling Vs blood and gore for the sake of it. That and I wanted and am heartbroken for season 3 of the original. This didn't need a reboot, it was completely and utterly wrong to do so without even finishing up the original, if the original was 30 + years ago I could understand them dumping it and riffing off its ideas to reimagine it, but that is not what happened, they just junked major elements of the show that made it what it was. The music especially.
I watch this video every now and then just to remind myself I wasn't alone in recognosing the brilliance of thise show. Tried to introduce a few people to it but most didn't get past the first scene or chilli sand bleach and a spoon. Hope it does get resurrected or another series but I can't imagine anyone else playing Arby and managing to make him so terrifying, damaged and still sympathetic.
I tell everyone I know about this show and urge them to watch it. It's an amazing balance of visuals, character, and concept that is hard to pull off in such a way. The whole concept behind the conspiracy and plot is so wonderfully confronting - like is the goal actually evil, or just the way it has been implemented. Personally I think it's a masterpiece and a tragedy it never got a third season.
This video has pushed me to finally watch the original Utopia series. All I have to say is - thank you! One of the best shows I've seen in my life. Such a shame it got cancelled..
It’s a masterpiece and ahead of it’s time. Watching in the present when vaccines and people falling for conspiracy theories are contemporary issues makes it even more compelling
Amazing video. It’s refreshing to know other people feel the same about such an amazing show. Such a shame we never got a third season to finish off the story!
@@stepdad1391 Because I imagine it would be super annoying to have a video you worked on months ago getting spammed with "lol I just watched Pyro's vid XD"
@@stepdad1391 it kinda depends on the video that sent them. Most people are here just to leave a comment, get likes for jokes, and leave.
