RotoPax Fuel Pack (3 gal) - www.rockymountainatvmc.com/pa...
Overlanding water storage solved! Check out the sweet Rotopax UTV Fuel Tanks, Water Containers and mounts we've added to our 2021 Polaris General 1000 4 seater sxs. We mounted them on the UTV cargo rack we added from Razorback Offroad which is the same rack you can use on a 2022 Polaris General XP 4 1000. Razorback also makes the same for the 2021 general xp 1000 razorback rack.
These accessories have really added a lot of range to our Polaris General 4 1000.
Really slick system for carrying extra fuel / water - saves room in your cargo bed for the larger gear you need for camping or over landing.
Last week we did an unboxing / install video so be sure to check that out!

I learned something recently. I would not have known… so I now share with you if it is news to you as well. Fill your water Rotopax with DISTILLED water and then you can fill your radiator OR drink the water if need be while out in the woods. Happy Trails! I love your content.

Good afternoon. Was just watching your video on the rotopax fuel containers. Was wondering if you have had any issues with them. A lot of videos comment on how clumsy they are to use and also leak. Just wanting your opinion b4 I purchase. Thank you and keep the videos coming!

I’ve heard people say that too, but we have never had leaking issues. I fill the things full and we climb and descent thousands of feet of elevation on our trips, in the sun and heat…. No problem. It’s a good idea to vent them occasionally to relieve pressure, but I’ve never had ours leak. The nozzles are actually decent for modern EPA nozzles… the gasket around them can slip, so that is the only time we’ve occasionally had leaks. I would buy them again, they are very convenient and it’s a lot safer carrying fuel outside the cargo bed.

How is the rbo rack holding up ? Any bad rattling noises? Is it pretty sturdy ? Really thinking about getting one for our general
@TheNorthwoodsFamily
@TheNorthwoodsFamily Год назад
Still holding up great no rattles. The hydraulic control arm that keeps the door from opening too far pops off now and then but it’s not even really annoying I pop it back on. It probably needs a new retainer clip. I’d buy it again without hesitation.

How well do the rbo mounts actually fit the 3 gal rotopax? Is an extension needed?

No extension needed. They fit great.

@@TheNorthwoodsFamily Thanks. The rotopax website sells a 3 gal extension for their mounts, wasn’t sure how RBO did it.

Are you happy with the 3 gallon fuel tanks or would 2 gallon had been sufficient? I'm looking at buying some as well. Also, is 2 of the 3 gallon overkill or have you used them?
@TheNorthwoodsFamily

Those are questions we've asked ourselves too lol! We're very happy with the 3 gal tanks. I figured if we have to put a tank there anyways, there isn't much of a size difference between the 2 gal and the 3 gal. so it's not like if we carried a 2gal tank we could fit more gear. Obviously that extra gallon adds another 7 lbs though, two of them 14 lbs so the weight could be a factor for you. How you plan or manage fuel depends on how and where you ride I think. For day riding, I feel a single 2-gal can would be fine. That said, we camped with a friend once who brought extra fuel - that way he doesn't have to worry about finding gas stations. While the rest of us had to take a special, long and boring trip just to get fuel, he didn't have to worry about it. So we do the same thing now. We take one can out on the trail, and leave the other at camp. Sometimes we even bring another 6 gal can in the truck and re-fuel at camp. Some of the places we've ridden, the gas stations are a 15 mile detour, or you have to plan your entire route around swinging by a gas station later in the day... it can be a pain, especially when you're in a new area. For overlanding, having 6 gals of extra fuel is really nice - and we have used it. I have found 15 mpg is a good, conservative consumption estimate for our machine. Sometimes we get 20 on the highway, but I feel safe planning our day around 15 mpg or a 150 mile range. On our Black Hills trip, because we had those extra 6 gallons, at the end of a full day of riding, we were able to totally change our plans, and re-route towards a remote area to camp without having to worry about fuel. We wound up doing about 220 miles between gas stations. We had a couple gallons left when we got there, but we used both tanks and the important thing - we weren't stressed and panicked about it! We knew we had plenty so we could enjoy the ride. So, the extra fuel can really give you flexibility to change plans or routes, or just not have to worry about finding a gas station every day. Sorry that's a really long answer - hope it helps though!!!

@@TheNorthwoodsFamily Much appreciated and excellent points! Side question, are you happy with the rear door on your RBO or would you suggest getting it without?
@TheNorthwoodsFamily
@TheNorthwoodsFamily 2 года назад
@@mxracer317 Funny you ask - our video going up Thursday talks about that! But to beat it to the punch, we’re glad we have it. The spare tire is huge and would take up a ton of space anywhere else, plus we can load stuff up in the bed securely without having to tie it all down. We originally figured we’d leave the door off most of the time, but we’ve never taken it off. The only downside is with the tire there, your view to the rear is obstructed pretty bad. Gotta rely on the side mirrors.

What is the range of the 9.5 gallon fuel tank when your loaded for overland camping?
@TheNorthwoodsFamily

Depends on load and driving. 150 pretty confidently.

Dude....research real Jerry cans. I love rotopax too but Jerry cans are way way better. Way cheaper too. BTW.....wouldn't be as cool looking.

I have several actually in use around my property or for my truck in a pinch. It would be nice to be able to hold more than 3 gals in each on our trips. I’d need to find a solution to mount them outside on the cargo rack because I don’t want to carry fuel in my cargo bed (nor do I have room for it!)

I see what you mean man. Its a slick system. I carry 4 vp jugs as a support vehicle. Kinda can't see why anyone would spend so much for so little capacity but to each his own. I love your rig man. Well thought out. I have applied your thoughts to my rig. Peace out bro.
