My mom works in a school. Im literally 5 foot tall and 85 pounds but I know for a fact that if this happened to her school I would still grab a knife from my house and speed over to run in and protect her. These officers took cover and had to relay information and kept him locked in one room. I know it sucks But had they not at least kept him contained they're probably would have been a lot more deaths. It blows my mind that ANY doors were left unlocked at an elementary school. I went to school in Minnesota and even my public high school’s entry points were always locked. My boyfriend grew up in Dallas and told me none of his schools’ entry points were ever locked. Absolutely unacceptable.
Thank God Karina was on the scene. She's sure that all the doors were locked in that entire building, and she was just an elementary student. Not like her Dallas boyfriends school that deserved this.
Most high schools in America have numerous entry points w/o any fence or protection from the public. Its not possible to protect every access point unless you have armed security like what you see at a military base.

Current police officer, two academies under my belt and hundreds of hours of additional training...in an active shooter scenario if you got two guys you go in...and if it's just you and backup is to far out, send a prayer up to your maker and go in...bottom line.
@@TRod2122 it doesn't make sense. I've been through multiple active shooter courses and refreshers and I've never seen anywhere where you would stand down with that many officers present. Usually if your solo, and backup is a couple minutes out you hold untill they get there. That way you have less of a chance of becoming a casualty/liability.

If armed police take 1 hour to go in to confront a single active shooter, they should step out of the way and let armed parents go in to protect their kids. It is shameful! For those actually interested in a timeline Ramos Salvador sent his last facebook message saying he was going to shoot up a school and after he had shot his grandmother at approximately 11:13 am, 15 minutes before arriving at Robb elementary school. A 911 call was made by Gilbert Gallegos wife around the same time after Salvadors grandmother had come out covered in blood. at 11:28 am Salvador crashes near the school where he shoots at 2 bystanders. 11:40 am Salvador enters the building through a unlocked door that was meant to remain locked. 11:44am more officers arrive on scene and enter the building where they are met with gunfire. Evacuation of students and staff begin shortly after. There is a large gap of information for about 60minutes as border patrol arrives proceeds to enter the building and shoot Salvador at 12:45pm.

As a retired elementary school employee, I know it's been mandatory for many, many years to have all outside access doors/gates locked at all times. Someone made an unforgivable mistake by not locking that back door. A crazy person was able to walk right in, guns and all and commit this unthinkable crime.

You don't need "specialty equipment" "precision shooters" or "body armors" if you just have a more strict protocol about where and how people can enter your buildings. This is the EXACT divisive tactics people have been using past 25 years since Columbine! Blame game - blame teachers, blame cops, then politicize this crap. Just put the damn metal detectors on doors, have hired and armed security guards at least 1 on all side of building AND ifneed be let trained armed parents organize a neighborhood watch for their neighborhood schools. I didn't find out about this until a day after...my heart breaks for these children who lose their lives, those who were there and the parents of those who lost their lives. This should not be happening. It makes me scared to send my kids to school one day. No parent should ever have to bury their children....and those poor kids who lost their mom, a teacher and their father now who died from a heart attack. This is all just so sad. Sending love to all affected.

Was the shooter lawfully in possession of said firearm? A new gun law will not protect my child. There needs to be security for entering schools period.
If I were a cop, I would have ran in right away, regardless of back up or not. Anything is better than leaving defenseless children alone with a gunman. He was an 18 year kid, just tackle him and disarm him. Why were police so scared?

I've always advocated for patrol officers to be trained to the same extent as these "tactical teams" are. It's always the same thing. Cops waiting for the SWAT or Tactical teams while the threat remains unchallenged. It's pathetic. I know they're scared because of the retired cop in Buffalo but nut up! I would've ignored directives to standby. I've ignored my chain of command but got minimal repercussions because I know I was right. I don't know how they can live with themselves following orders to standby.

A cop that I was cool with back in the day told me that they are instructed to wait for Squat unless they are directly in the line of fire, so that means you were on your own.

Major police departments are teaching to run in and get cops in the action as early as possible. The idea is that minutes count and lives are being lost. This was ramped after parkland where the officer went and hid… I’ve seen some training videos where they want to engage the shooter asap

There is absolutely no valid reason EVER to kill children! The mother of the gunman should have kept her opinions to herself and all she needed to say was “I’m sorry for my son’s crimes”! That’s it! Exactly how did he just walk into the school though is still beyond me. Most elementary schools have locked doors during school hours unless the office buzzes you through the actual school building.
You know what strikes me as odd a strange peculiar behavior of all of the interviews. The parents and the family. The more you watch the interviews the stranger it gets it's like these people are void of emotions at least normal Is emotions that come with that kind of circumstance. These people standing around face not flushed no sense of urgency saying they don't know where their children are or if they're OK. If Michelle was involved in this there is no police officer For anyone else they could keep me from getting to them and I definitely would not be Is standing in front of a camera. I mean I just watched the video of people who had their dogs put down. Their faces were beat red bloodshot eyes tears Streaming down their face snot dripping out of their nose couldn't even speak Their speech was Slurred and joggie they couldn't catch their breath. Many of them couldn't even speak on camera. When you compare this to the interviews of parents who don't know if their children are alive or dead. Sure does same kind of Odd to say the least.
Lets just call a spade a spade, these officers didnt rush the shooter because they were scared. They didnt have anything but pistols and shotguns and were just plain scared, as an iraq and afghanistan Army veteran we are trained no matter what to go towards fire and/or return fire. These officers were just plain cowards lets stop acting like we dont know why they didnt enter. To be completely honest even without body armor or military grade ammunition there are still things you can do to direct the shooters attention your way if you arent going to rush them. By finding a place with cover you could scream and yell profanities to the shooter so he hears and sees you and turn his anger and attention your way, because trust me when someone is in a state of mind like that you can easily provoke them to focus on you with a few choice words, instead of allowing them to continue focusing on those little babies. You cant tell me that these officers didnt atleast have chest protection, so there is no excuse as to why they waited for tactical teams. This is truly a mark of cowardice, and as an Army Veteran who saw action this is unforgivable and all too obvious to me. So, once again, lets call it for what it is and stop acting like we dont know why they waited OVER AN HOUR to confront him. They were probably fat, lazy, local town cops with no combat experience that were used to handing out speeding and parking tickets and dealing with drunk drivers. THEY WERE SCARED. THEY WERE COWARDS. POINT. BLANK. PERIOD.

Indeed. Reality is that any armed resistance in his path would have severely hampered the shooter's efforts. A person in his situation is not mentally prepared (much less trained) to deal with armed resistance. Officers could have done quite a bit more than they did.
