The band seen here at Dundonald cemetery at a new head stone unveiling for an Ulster division war hero John Hodgen. John fought for king and empire over in France at the battle of the Somme.
My grandfather was a member of the Ulster Volunteers and served in France with the 36th Ulster Division. He was gassed during combat and died of his injuries not long after the war. My mother never even got to know him. My grandmother used to sing all those old 1st World War songs to me as a child and still even now although I’m an old man they bring a tear to my eye.
Thanks for putting this on mate, this was an absolute brilliant day,and an absolute honour to have the band doing this grave dedication to honour John Hodgen, one of our own's finest East Belfast volunteers.lest we forget🇬🇧
