#PlayaVentanas #beach #Uvita 'Costa Rica - Playa Ventanas Overview - Father/Son Road Trip Pacific Coast'. We made it to Playa Ventanas. D'Angleo and I hadn't been there in some years. We used to tell everyone it was one of our favorite beaches. Although we still like it and is worth going to if you're a tourist. But they have cheapened it with all their cheap, tacky, beach chairs and carnival style food tents selling ceviche, chicken beers etc. when Playa Ventanas is better as a picnic beach, bring yoiur own food and beverages. That said, the tunnels, the cove, the jungle coming right up to the ocean is stunning. Check out our video, 'Costa Rica - Playa Ventanas Overview - Father/Son Road Trip Pacific Coast'.
Playa Ventanas, Costa Rica: A Hidden Gem of the Pacific Coast
Playa Ventanas is one of Costa Rica's most captivating and lesser-known beaches, located in the Puntarenas province along the southern Pacific coast. This stunning beach is renowned for its unique sea caves, which resemble windows ("ventanas" in Spanish) and offer a remarkable natural spectacle during low tide. The beach is surrounded by lush greenery and dramatic cliffs, creating a serene and picturesque setting that is perfect for relaxation and exploration.
Distance from Nearby Popular Destinations:
Playa Dominical: 22 km (approximately 30 minutes by car)
Playa Uvita: 15 km (approximately 20 minutes by car)
Manuel Antonio: 65 km (approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes by car)
Jaco: 125 km (approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes by car)
Highlights and Activities in Playa Ventanas:
Sea Caves Exploration:
The main attraction of Playa Ventanas is its two impressive sea caves. These natural formations allow the ocean waves to flow through, creating a mesmerizing view and sound. During low tide, visitors can walk into the caves and explore their intricate formations, but caution is advised as the tide can come in quickly.
Beach Relaxation:
Playa Ventanas offers a tranquil environment, ideal for sunbathing and swimming. The soft sandy beach and clear waters make it a perfect spot to unwind away from the more crowded tourist areas.
Snorkeling and Swimming:
The waters around Playa Ventanas are calm, providing good conditions for swimming and snorkeling. The area near the caves is particularly interesting for snorkelers due to the diverse marine life.
Wildlife Viewing:
The surrounding forests and mangroves are teeming with wildlife. Bird watchers can spot various species of tropical birds, and it's not uncommon to see monkeys and other wildlife in the nearby trees.
Local Cuisine:
Visitors can enjoy fresh seafood and traditional Costa Rican dishes at the nearby local restaurants. The small towns surrounding Playa Ventanas are known for their charming eateries and friendly locals.
Kayaking and Paddleboarding:
The calm waters near the beach are perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding. Renting equipment is relatively easy, and these activities provide a unique perspective of the coastal scenery.
Nearby Attractions:
Ventanas Beach Waterfall: A short hike from the beach leads to a beautiful waterfall that is perfect for a refreshing dip.
Playa Tortuga: Just a few kilometers away, this beach is another pristine location worth visiting, known for its turtle nesting sites.
Playa Ventanas is an ideal destination for those looking to experience the natural beauty and tranquility of Costa Rica's Pacific coast. Its unique geological features, combined with a variety of outdoor activities and close proximity to other tourist hotspots, make it a must-visit location for nature enthusiasts and adventurers alike. Whether you are exploring the sea caves, lounging on the sandy shores, or indulging in local cuisine, Playa Ventanas promises a memorable and picturesque escape.

Sad to me how the place has changed. 22 years ago before my Tica fiancé and I married, we took my two kids and her daughter there. We took two tents and camped on the beach for three days and never saw another person. We had to park a distance away and walk through the jungle. It was an incredible experience. A couple of years ago we tried to go back and it was a traffic jam trying to get in and totally commercialized. Oh well, that’s progress.

Have to agree with you about incorporating plastic lawn furniture with a beautiful natural backdrop . The two should never mix oil and water.

Costa Rica is way too expensive. There are more beautiful places in the world you can visit for half the price. Also the dollar is so has dropped 30% against their currency mostly because of all the drug money that's is floating here. Sane your money.
