When playing with transformers as a kid with my friend. We'd lay figures out and choose figures for our teams. He really liked Devy, so I'd at least try to pick a Constructicon or two so he couldn't merge. Would say it wasn't fair, but he kept taking Brawl and Vortex. Keeping me from forming a true Bruticus. Although I just swapped out Blades and Deadend to battle his gestalts. For a devasting attack I would launch Mixmaster from a ramp and form his leg mode, crashing/stepping down on the enemy. Play rule was, if a character was put into limb mode and not combined, they were stuck in that mode. Unless combined or the field medic unlocks their cog to change back. Great review btw, I was waiting on a different 3rd party upgrade but broke down and bought PE set for my UW Devy. That Mixmaster cab is a must have, Scavenger's shovel and the knee plates are okay. The rest is meh.
Transformers: Devastation. Starring: Arthur Burghardt a.k.a Devastator. Choose Regirock, Regice, and Registeel to start. The heroic Autobots need your help to hunt, locate, and defeat the evil Decepticons who are hidden on Earth before they strike again. Hmm, and keep away from the dreaded Devastator. Ready? Click on Regigigas, the colossal Pokémon to begin.
The Constructicon subgroup consists of: Scavenger, an excavator desperate to prove his worth, concrete cement truck, Mixmaster, a cackling chemist and mobile laboratory responsible for fabricating building materials, the bitter Long Haul, a dump truck who would rather be fighting than transporting, bulldozer, Bonecrusher, a violent demolitions expert, surgical mechanic, Hook, a snobbish mobile crane, and front loader, Scrapper, the team leader of the Constructicons.
I was in that situation where I found the Unite Warriors Devastator on sale. Was Big Bad toystore and while I forget the percentage off it was something like $90-95...did not take me that long to make the call on getting this version for practically the same price as the combiner wars retail equivalent. Glad I did and glad I re-watched this video after getting it in hand...nice to know I'm not the only one that found the long haul locking thing not really working
Yeah this version is the one I went for. I really appreciated all the individual robot mode updates Takara put into these. I also REALLY appreciated the updates to the combined mode. I do not regret paying more for this iteration.
I think the reason Hasbro made Mix Master the way they did is because the cement mixer truck that all g1 fan grew up with in the eighties, is slowly being outmoded by the front cement mixer truck. Say in the next 10 to 20 years, the kids that are going up now probably won't know about the old school cement mixer truck because by then it'll be outmoded completely. I can see why the front cement mixer truck is on the rise, because much it is much cheaper to have one man can operate cement mixer truck then two men. and it is much bigger and carries more cement.
+Robomerc Same deal with guys like Motormaster and Hotspot. And old fashioned firetruck wouldn't be super recognizable by kids years down the line. And an old box semi truck is hard to come by now days.
NickSandwichGames i just talking about kids who are being born in that time frame of 10 to 20 years, it's hypothetical but i was just giving a possibility.
Excellent review! Very detailed and professionally edited, plus I never knew some of the finer retooling on Scavenger and Long Haul. UW-04 is the crown jewel in my collection.
I love how these toys are made with G1 cartoon fans in mind. From Hot Rod having a fishing rod (which you would not know about if you hadn't seen the movie, and even then it's a pretty unimportant thing) to Devastator having two face modes, which is only a thing because of inconsistent art in the cartoon. THAT is commitment to the fans.
Hey bro big fan just got my UW Devestator and I'm really happy I passed on Hasbro version. Your review was very helpful to me when I was trying to make a decision thanks again great video 👍
LOL! Intro was full on Vangelus anime madness. XD Also.. When that MP Exhaust review will come?My "local" Toys 'R' Us is selling three GCW Devastator set almost on 100 euros, what had almost 200 euros prize at first.
Outside of the great new tooling, I still prefer the SDCC paint apps. A pimped out Hasbrp one with reprolabels an PE parts is pretty badass too. :) Basically, you can't go wrong with Devy! ;)
Thanks for the video, it was this that tipped me to buy Unite Warriors instead of the Combiner Wars version. It's still in the mail so I can't say how mine turned out just yet.
Why would you even get CW devastator? The guys in this set are more cartoon accurate, more articulated, have more accessories, and some figures even have little easter eggs. And as you said, it may even be cheaper.
I would take the head off of Combiner Wars Scrapper and Devastator and put them on the Unite Warriors version if I could. Make them Silver. Then it would be perfect.
At first I was planning to get the CW Devastator because it's cheaper, but if you say UW Devastator has rachet arm joints, then frix it. I'm getting the UW.
so I received this today in the mail. right out of the box one of scrappers arms broke at the mushroom peg. has anyone else had this issue? hoping to get a repacement tho since its the takara one I hope they dont screw me and semd a hasbro scrapper...

Oh! I’ll get ‘em on the horn. Get it? On the horn. (honks, laughs) Hook: Oops. Hold on, gotta sneeze. (gasping) Dad-gum, I lost it. Hey, I’ll see you at the Pokémon Center. (sneezes loudly) I found it. Hey, watch your step.
Hook must prepare for Shockwave’s return, but he was too busy sneezing. Togepi, Igglybuff, and Cleffa try to determine what’s making Hook sneeze too much.
Yeah, but if memory serves, Takara gave us: G1 Wildrider G1 Slingshot G1 Groove G1 Blast-off G1 Computron (all new) All in their Unite Warriors gift sets, could at least go that extra mile to give us G1 Mixmaster at least!
So Takara made them better? Seriously, it's getting harder and harder to want to get Hasbro releases, when Takara tends to make them better most of the time, whether it be with the colours, remolds and them giving the spotlight to some more obscure bots instead of always going for the usual bots.
However, that is until Transformers Legends. I don't know if the unique Japanese specifications of Legends were not profitable, or if Hasbro forced them to do so, but Tomy decided to release a product from POTP with the same specifications as the Hasbro version.
If you’re still wondering, basically Hasbro made the original design for CW Devy which doesn’t happen often because most designs are made with a collaboration between Hasbro and Takara so Takara had extra budget to make it better.
