Vítězslav Novák: Pan, No. 5 Woman (1910), piano: Martin Vojtíšek
As Novák himself said, the stormy beginning is an image of the passion that engulfs a man upon sighting a naked woman. The first half of the piece is actually an image of the sexual passion, even with details like heartbeat. While the first half glorifies the Woman-Lover, the second half is an apotheosis of the Woman-Mother. The whole monumental cycle Pan is thus concluded with a symbol of the generative force of nature.
