Dear visitors! The water-wheel 10 kW can mine water per hour. 2-meter-high column of water and 500 liters / second. This wheel is 3 cubic meters of water can absorb.

Fascinating set-up, well done! I like the gate valve controlling the input. I must point out that at the height (2m) and rate (500L/s) you provided below, that system has a maximum power of 9.8 kW, but an undershot water wheel + all the other inefficiencies will lower that. Still more than enough for a home, shop or barn. Would love to see a follow-up if you added a generator and ran line. Also, how deep into the pond is that pipe set? I am not sure how you plan to clean the line, say if the valve got crudded up, without first draining your whole pond to the intake

O sistema de fechamento é muito lento. Poderiam fazer algo tipo leme ou caixa de duas saídas que desvie o fluxo para outro canal de escoo, além de não ter a necessidade de canos tão fortes para suportar a pressão e o peso da água. Simples e rápido. Se tiver necessidade de cessar a água para não estragar a roda devido algum dano, nessa velocidade o conjunto inteiro é perdido.

Why does it seem like they did this totally wrong. The weight of the water is not on top therefore it does not have the benefits of Leverage. Nonetheless I do believe that our America needs more of these put back into service making electricity and making our country less dependent on fossil fuels and extending the need or use of nuclear energy.

Awesome!!! I am also planning for a similar one, can you please provide the details of the pipe size and wheel size. And how to calculate how much I am getting from 1meter head and 300lps and 5feet diameter of the wheel.Please suggest me it will be most helpful for me doing this.

diameter of wheel is not important... only head and flow 300L/s and 1m head is about 2kW on wheel, after generator is less... you need speed that up, motor has some effenciency. 1,4kW is real - 36kWh per day Power P [watt] = 9,81 x flow Q [ltr./sec.] x head H [meter] x turbine effenciency [%/100] x transimition effenciency [%/100] x generator effenciency [%/100] so P = 9,81 x 300 x 1 x 0,67 (good water wheel effenciency) x 0,8 * 0,9 = 1,42kW

They have tons of volume, not much head. They’d have to excavate the wheel down by the diameter if you want the same volume overshot

@@zeke7237 Need more volume, make the wheel wider. The Fitz Waterwheel Co in the early 1900's was making thousands of steel overshot waterwheels up to 50 feet in diameter, 16 feet wide, and capable of 3000 cubic feet/ min (84951 L/min). They certainly could have used an overshot wheel here and instead of using pressure like a turbine as their wheel is an overshot wheel would use the weight of water and gravity so that at lower flows the efficiency remains high. Fitz water wheels were tested at a university of Wisconsin to between 92% efficient with self-aligning bearing too, with today's laser cut steel parts, automated welding, and a better knowledge of hydrodynamics it is possible to rival the 95-96% of modern Francis, Kaplan, or Pelton turbines with modern steel waterwheels. Now there will be other efficiency losses such as friction in the bearings and gearing, belts, or gearbox and losses in the generator so the total system would be lower. The largest known waterwheel in the US is the Burden Water Wheel build at the Burden Iron Works in Troy, NY the wheel was 60 in diameter, 22' wide, and the buckets were 6' deep. The Burden Wheel had a 12" shaft that ran along the floor of the shop so leather belts could be used to take power of the shaft at any point. This huge wheel also provided the idea for George Washington Gale Ferris to invent the Ferris Wheel. Ferris graduated from Troy, New York's Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1881. The first Ferris wheel was the centerpiece of the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. It was 264 feet tall and could hold 1,440 people at once.

They certainly could have used an overshot wheel here. The manner they are using that wheel is more like a turbine utilizing presser vs the weight of water. I go into much more info, see my reply to John D'Ausilio above.

The water enters the level control drain on other side where I assume they have a funnel. The pressure pushes the water up through the pipe to the other side where it falls a little before coming out. They are making use of what is already there. Brilliant idea.

+tropicalson2010 It's just a syphon. That access hatch at the highest point of the pipe is used to fill the pipe with water, then the flow is just from the _difference_ in height between lake surface and valve outlet.

A head of 2 metres would need 2500 L/S I dont think so, also after efficiency say %60 it would only make 30KW.
