Dupont pushed the level so high before that we trivialized his huge performance this season. I think he also pays for his unfortunate red card. However I think he is still the best player of the world.
France are probably the best side in the World; most Ireland fans wouldn't argue with that. But, they didn't play as many top class tests this year as Ireland did. This counted against them in world ranking points (hence Ireland are 1st), and probably in awards. Outside of a world cup, winning a test series in NZ has traditionally been the hardest thing to do in world rugby. VDF gets extra credit because his performances (and they were exceptional) helped drive this achievement. During the same period, Dupont was being given the Summer off by France. It's debatable if VDF is actually a better player, but probably deserved the award more based on the above, and the recent red card was always going to count against Dupont too.
What did Van der Flier won this year? just test matchs (important but not regional competition). Plus hardest thing to do is become world champion Dupond won the 6 nations (grand slam), debate closed. I like the guy but huge bias, the red card sanction is a joke as it was clearly unintentionnal (dangerous nontheless), and its nothing comparing to what he has done. It's just bad timing
@@Nieljoyceniel it might have been in the past but certainly not at the moment. NZ has been losing games all over the place (they lost to Ireland several times, to France, to Australia...) so beating them once is not as big of deal as it used to be. On the other hand, winning the 6 Nations means beating Ireland, England and Wales in consecutive games.
@@Nieljoyceniel with the level of NZ shows this past two years ? Not really… Alldritt was an important player for France in the Gran Slam and for La Rochelle to win the European title. He is the forward who gains more territory ball in hands in Europe. So if you put VDF ahead of Dupont (who was not as exceptional as last year but clearly was world class this year too) explain how do you put him ahead of Alldritt ?
Who cares ? I m pretty sure Antoine actually likes not being awarded this year. Unnecessary pressure that French journalists would always tell him « bla-bla-bla 2 times best player , bla-bla ». Let s be humble and get back to work
Tbh as an Irishman I kinda wish VDF didn't win it. This puts more pressure on Ireland to perform at the WC and there's the added layer of teams going to target VDF now. We're cursed when we get hyped up like this before a WC.
Right, in France's most recent games Dupont wasn't as overwhelming as he usually is because everything he's good at is scrutinized and the defence is all over him at all times. It's the worse position to be in, the expectations are at their highest but playing well is more difficult.
I don't understand why considering how week NZ are currently. Winning against them now is not like when they had Carter, McCaw, Nonu, Kaino etc... France are undefeated and have beaten all the major nations in consecutive games, two french clubs won the 2 european cups I don't know what you need more to see how France is dominating World rugby atm...
He is still the best player in the world. He is sensationnal. best player of the year 2 times in a row would have been too much for world rugby they "can" not do that.
@@stephendoherty981 deservedly so he had a full season made of brilliance the guy can earn a little rest. I like JVDF but I rate him below the likes of Aldritt Savea, Etzebeth, Marchand, Penaud, furlongh etc.. funny thing about Ireland is you guys still don’t get the concept of keeping stuff hidden for the World Cup and go all out the year before, how many failed QF does it take to understand that ? 😅 see ya next year in Dublin to make it 0 from 4 against us
vd flier is definitely a great player but aldritt, dupont (and savea) are in other dimensions right now. Especially Dupont so obviously World Rugby is a scam but just glad this player exists
Parole de Français I like Ntamack, but Dupond with Marcus Smith, it makes me dream! French speech
i think he should be removed as french captain back to ollivion dont over use a golden goose to early, also getting him to peak for WC after long french / 6 nations is important! so take off extra bagge as captain!
Also, only international rugby counts. VDF was Irelands best player in the 6N, player of the tour in NZ, and put a MoM performance against SA this month. A worthy winner.
@@Kpb69 Better ? Not so sure. More consistent ? Yes. Dupont didn't play for the summer tour and was OK during the Autumn Nations series, and got sent off right before the vote.
