Throught out my life i rediculed sanskit and vedic mantras as useless. Many yrs after i became neurologist i started exploring ved, upanishads. I cried one day when i realized how did i miss such a profound knowledge which is there in front of me for 40 yrs. I now explore ved, upanishads every day. It is very scientific and in sync with neuroscience. Thanks to sages who gave us this profound knowledge but unfortunately Indians are missing the very knowledge their ancestors discovered.
I am just in awe with this gentleman called Rajiv Malhotra who owns the Infinity Foundation. He gave up his thriving career and his large business for a beautiful cause i.e to tell the correct Indian Narrative and challenge western authors, academia like Harvard, Oxford and so on who somehow think they have right to abuse Indian culture of which they stole vast knowledge.. Every book and video of his is an eye opener for me and I believe it will be for every Indian who wants to know their roots. I loved the flow of knowledge from V Ramachandran. So much to learn from these two genius. God bless them good health, happiness and prosperity. He is empowering average Indian with the Grand India Narrative which we all know was distorted deliberately by colonial rulers Nehru, leftist authors like Romila Thappar , westerners and more importantly by their implanted sepoys (post colonial Jaychands) who still exist in the system who humilate our culutre. The govt still has a herculean task to correct the history books which treats our freedom fighters like Veer Sawarkar, Bhagat Singh and many more as terrorist. So happy to see him looking well, I'd been deeply worried about his health. And Rajiv, your nuanced exploration of the differences between Western and Indian approaches I hope will nudge more minds toward opening. May I recommend that this interview be subtitled so as to reach a wider audience? Many people tuning in might be encountering the subject matter for the first time. This is absorbing for those of us better acquainted with the concepts and subject matter, but others unused to interacting with different accents might miss things because of the frequent interjections and rapid speech. My best to you both.
'Naadi Parikshan" (Pulse examination) - is NOT a sub-specialization in Ayurveda, it is the 'beginning' of the Medicinal System called Ayurveda. The treatment BEGINS with 'diagnosis'! My grand father himself was a Vaidh (Ayurveda Doctor) and could tell promptly about the problem his patients were in, by simply examining their pulse. In many cases, he used to ignore about the symptoms the patient told, and gave them the cure of the 'actual' cause!
Please do not spread misinformation. Stuff you told is not taught any where in Ayurvedic school even and no Ayurvedic doctor can do it. it takes a way more to diagnose a disease (people had no idea of bacteria and virus in ancient time). Nadi parikshan cannot check that. Its simple logic. Most ayurvedic practitioners are giving antibiotics and other alopathy medicines without much understanding. That is fact. No body buys ayurvedic stuff outside India. If its true science why don't Ramdev and other big ayurvedic companies get patents about it? Fact is only us indians believe in it and keep fooling ourselves. Ayurved is not alone, so is homeopathy and accupuncture (there is absolutely no science behind this two,). Beware and make others aware too.

I must get in contact with him as a potential research subject, because I have had unusual experiences as a deaf child who didn't learn to talk or socialize as a western-living person in America until I was seven and a half years old. I experience synesthesia regularly, such as tasting and feeling colors, shapes, and textures anywhere from just below eye level to around my lungs, as they are ways of "identifying" what color is this object, how do I describe the shape, what the texture looks like. For instance, if I remember a road visually, I'll feel a rough sensation apparently located just in front or at the back of my throat. If I see glass, I'll feel smooth sensation that is not by touch, but by internal feel (indescribable, but it's what I use to remember, "Where did I put that glass down at?!?") located somewhere in my nasal cavity. And so on for practically anything that exist in the material world. Because I wasn't diagnosed until I was 7.5 (I'm almost 52 now), I was already fully aware of my surroundings and mobile for a very long time, so I remember very clearly what it's like to not have names for anything, nor to be able to communicate needs and fears to my parents. I could only express them emotionally/physically. I remember what it's like to do things, like play outside, notice the position of the sun and the moon, cars going by, playing with animals, watching other children standing up in the class room and looking at the upper left and looking across to the right (and having no idea that they were reciting the alphabet and not know that it represented letters on print of a spoken language, or even what a language was), among many memories I have going back to less than two years old, when I received my first car for children, and I drove it in the front yard of the house. Essentially, I experienced life without any lenses of language, socialization, and religion/traditional knowledge system in place. Another thing is that as a result of my deafness in the Deaf Years (before diagnosis as deaf), I learned to notice the anāhata nāda (unstruck sound that is "heard", but rather felt as a vibration) since my Deaf Years. It is always there, never changing. I've noticed that my voice pitch matches the frequency of that "sound". Even audiologists in the West don't know of this and confuse this with tinnitus. They don't understand that while tinnitus is heard in the inner ear, the anāhata nāda is not. It is experienced, as described in the Spanda Kārikās, in the central brow region between the eyes. This is like an "operational hum" of the brain or the body, much as the electrical hum of a fridge or the white noise of electrical wiring in a noisy circuit of a house. It will always be there until the power is cut. If I want to meditate and break the visual chatter in my mind (as opposed to the verbal chatter that hearing people experience instead), I focus on the anāhata nāda. I want to present myself as a potential research project for these reasons; I have had the unusual experience of not being "civilized" as a child until long after the average western child experiences this; deafness introduces a very rare opportunity to study those whose worlds are largely silent, giving rise to unusual amounts of synesthesia used in the absence of access to a language that can categorize experiences of stimuli (smell, taste, touch, hearing (not in my case) and sight (very much in my case)), a different kind of "chatter" that exists in the mind (visual as opposed to auditory), and I have done things in my life that are unusual as well, such as playing music as a musician, and struggling to learn a second language (when it is easy for a lot of people), among other things I may not be aware of at the moment. The language learning difficulties arise maybe because I started acquiring my primary language in a solid way when I was seven and a half years old instead of the usual one or two years old. As a practicing Hindu, I practice my reading recognition and my speech skills by reciting various texts in Saṃskṛta, Hindi, and Āvadhi, and I am slowly learning the vocabulary and grammar. Examples of texts include the Bhagavad Gītā, Śrī Rāmacaritamānasa (took 13 months to complete), Śrī Pañcaratana Gītā (currently), the Mahābhārata (in Saṃskṛta and Hindi, started in October and expected to last for 12 years across 8800 pages). This is another reason I want to offer myself as a research subject - what is happening in the brain of a deaf person as one read texts in their primary language, as well as that of a writing system that is not used in the primary language (such as Devanāgarī), or even that of another language.
While the conversation is flowing, too many diverse topics brought into. A single focu utilizing the Prof. knowledge would have resulted in some specific result. I understand a lots of experiment area being done by Swamiji Nityananda(India) Asram in Bidadi to validate many claims of Vedic Science. Interesting conversation. I can relate to one aspect of discussion about Dr. Lad's use of "naree" (pulse) for diagnostic purposes which is a part of our old Indian Ayurvedic practice and also adopted by traditional Indian doctors during old times when laboratory tests were not so common and expensive. My wife, suffering from an acute and advanced state of rheumatic artharitis, and as last resort, consulted a reputed Naturopath and in Ayurvedic medicine in Toronto, Late Dr. Peter D'Adamo, in mid 80's. had a similar experience Dr. D'Adamo just used the pulse and confirmed her medical condition, amazingly determined her blood group and also her previous physical bone injury from an accident at a young age. Very happy to report of my wife's complete remission of rheumatism under Dr. D'Adamo's and my wife's disciplined adherence to, rigorous treatment by diet and supplements.
My take is Rajiv wants acknowledgement and acceptance from Ramachandran on his belief about Sanskrit Mantras, Ayurveda , Groups (Indian context caste) and genetic inheritance of knowledge via occupation. But Dr Ramanchandran was very open and honest in what he has said about the above topics.
Around 8:26th minute Dr. Ramanchandran says that sometimes listening to something sad actually inspires you or energizes you if the right raga is employed. I personally have felt so with Mozart's Requiem. Though it's about death, the melody is so beautiful that it calms me down, helps to concentrate and organize my thinking.

Rajiv who is otherwise very candid and outspoken about his views is surprisingly subdued and his questions are full of euphemisms, what he is trying to do is get VR to concur with him on his "Right wing" ideas in a devious manner. VR of course is well up to the challenge and can be seen dismissing Rajiv's attempts at every such instance. Thats is the difference between a truly objective open minded scientists and a highly educated, articulate, elite hypocrite pushing an agenda under the guise of a discussion. Starting 01:05:00 Rajiv opens up a little and starts making a veiled attempt to justify caste / race differences (he is careful about using the word differences and not discrimination (even though that is how it finally manifests in society), as expected VR is up to the challenge and very subtly and respectfully exposes Rajiv to be what he really is. One good statement from VR was that one cannot explain a mystery using another mystery. He is a scientist. RM may not get what he intends. But he kind of fairly got it in the sense that VR was using the term 'common sense' several times! Common Sense is a mystery according to me!

Iam worried that the current knowledge of base science may not be adequate to validate all the traditional practices. It is dangerous to reject as quack anything now. We need to validate which can be and leave others alone otherwise you will land up doing more damage than favour.
I was taught times tables by my mon this way . I was in a convent school but began learning the times tablesin Hindi from my 2nd grate onwards, & by 3rd grade, knew by rote times tables from 2X1...16X20. I did not understand at that time, but made me very fast with arithmetic, & as I grew older, I was able to understand the thing too.
Dear Rajivji, This is a very interesting talk, I am my self involved in a very emerging field of applying mathematical structure of quantum mechanics and quantum field theory in cognitive modelling and also extending to financial and economic behaviour...I am working with some pioneers in this field ..there are striking predictions which can be tested empirically.. and also application of such models can resolve many paradoxes which cant be resolved through classical decision making theory...well entanglement remains a very dicey topic though
Thanks for posting this interview. Malhotraji is very calm and composed, and provokes a good discussion in logical thinking. I think what I learn't from this is that Science is pure while Culture can be contaminated. Hope Malhotrasaab has learn't some lessons.
This is a great video which deals with those aspects of our ancient wisdom that we had by a long process lost. Modern science is seriously rediscovering these aspects of our nature .It is scintillating to hear two outstanding and responsible intellectuals set forth on such challenging subjects . I will not add my own comments . That will distract the viewer . I would like to exhort people to see the video with a lot of attention. Then the public debates, reactions can start. .

Nadi pareeksha is not a "system of medicine."It is a diagnostic tool for examining the patient... just like a western physician using the stethoscope tolisten to the various parts of the body.

It is so paradoxical! It is so counter intuitive! I have done this myself and have come out of a sulking state of mind, just by listening to some Kishore da's sad songs. I am intrigued by the logic behind this. I have felt this profound zest for life filling my being, from a state of deep pensiveness, with the progression of song... it is as if every synapse and sinew in your body rejiggers to shift from melancholy to joyous state. I think there is an unnecesary barrier being introduced between the western framework and the Eastern one ( with chakras, nadis etc). The requirements for validation of a framework are different and vary based upon the way that that framework understands the subject (in this case medicine) and the measures it proposes for dealing with its variety of elements. Of course we want solution to problems . And we can easily see and declare whether a solution has or has not worked. But imposing thins need upon any framework shuts down the possibilities of exploring different lines of thought from that framework and thereby robs us of the possibility of more efficient solutions. To illustrate, a person may be obese . Through the western paradigm , he adopts a diets, takes pills daily and exercises , and then loses his weight. But seen through a vedic paradigm, his horoscope may have jupiter in the 1st house conjuct with rahu ( or something like that) , which tells us that he is predisposed to being fat. And even though he loses weight once , he quickly gains it back , as indicated by his natal chart. Then comes the question of solutions. One can talk about remedies that are suited for different malefic planetary combos , and thus have a system of tailormade counselling to a person based upon his chart. This is an additional , and in my view , necessary measure to be taken , besides the intervention from the western paradigm ie. exercise , pills etc. The point to be noted is that the western paradign has a limited range of solutions they can propose, the eastern one includes all those soultions and also goes beyond by situating the problem in its context ( built on the basis of its framework ).
This may interest you I had a strange experence . I live in Arkansas, some years ago my mother died in India, only one of my two sisters was in India and had lost my phone number so she wrote me a letter saying my mother had died and I got the letter some 10 days later. But the day she died I dream't my mother died and if I had not told my wife the next day I would have thought I imagined it I saw my mother in a coffin when I got the letter I also sent my sisters emails saying what I had experenced. This has happened to me only once, perhaps you can explain it.
The place where I come from, there are these hereditary Ayurvedic Nadi specialists. He can tell you by Nadi pariksha, ok you have indigestion problem, ok you have high bp etc etc. it is amazing but it is true

This is what happen when you hear an amazing neuroscientist and a software engineer. Just a few question aroused please answer. 1) is chaos comfort is better way of living the life or the clear clutter. Which makes a person more happy and creative. If we become clear on things go away from chaos comfort will it reduce the emotional attachments and bonding in society ? Which thing invokes more of learning ? 2) Atomic society existence will be better or an identified one (mean having identity on each person). Atomic society is i think a chaos comfortable society. What exactly is better ? In Today's situation lets assume there are no boundaries on our planet between nations well it is an assumption but in that case ? other one is lets suppose the actual real world but in the benefit of the whole world what is better ?
I enjoyed watching this video. The phenomenon of prodigies, like Einstein, Mozart, Picasso, and the like could easily be explained through the principles of the law of karma an reincarnation of Hinduism. When a person dies, only the gross body is left behind. One's subtle body manifest with samsakaras and vasanas and causal body remain intact and travel with oneself wherever one goes unless the person had achieved Moksha in which case one is merged with Brahman and gets away from the cycles of birth and death. When a person is reborn, one is not born with a clean slate. For example, if one is Spirituality advanced in this life, then it is very likely that s/he will be reborn in a family that is conducive to one's further spiritual growth, This explains phenomena, like Adi Guru Shankaracharya and Lord Buddha, who became enlightened at such an early age.
I used to go to an Ayurvedic doctor who specialized in Naadi pariksha. All he used to do as soon as I went was check my pulse and tell the symptoms I was experiencing without me even telling him anything! I was blown away!
I think the issue about experimentation on traditional practices is difficult for three reasons: 1) What is the sample size that would work for this? 2) How strict do the constraints of the experiments need to be? 3) How long do we need to wait to see results? Let's take a simple example of seeing if chanting Gayathri Mantra has an effect on academic performance. Does this only work with young children? Do they need to be practicing some sort of code of conduct (no meat, no stimulants etc.) and how long do they need to be under observation before we say that we see conclusive results over a control group?
This subject is full of gravity and the purpose of such question-answer videos is to educate common - but intelligent - people. I suggest there should be a protocol of procedure to be used in creating such videos of interviewing experts. First: there should be an introduction of the expert with full credential; along with some idea of the subject matter to which the expert is connected; plus, some light on the current controversies that may be there with ill motive. Two: a question should be put with proper - if necessary even long - background to make the question very clear on the pointed issue. Third: the expert should be given full time without intervening interruption. It is necessary to make the expert concentrate on the material he wants to convey. That is, a two way talk or constant conversation between the two should be avoided.
Very nice listening to conversations of two great men. My view on extraordinary capacity of mind is that great sages have already confirmed that Advaitha is ultimate. No Second. Aham Brahmasmi. All are only God and everyone has the capacity to realize that he is God or the creator or any term. Creator/Avathar/man or worman avathar/tree avathar/animal avathar or for that matter anything ,the vast capacity of mind to reach to any level is simply possible.
Who is better than the man himself (ramachandran)...to take the work ahead and establish the thoughts into facts... Also it will be wonderful to establish gayatri vidya on scientific terms and I am sure a lot of traces and studies are still present both in oral and written form. ..it needs a man like vs and how revolutionary it shall be
I have appreciated Dr Ramachandran's work with neuroplasticity and healing, and I'd be interested to hear his opinions about the neurological disorders that have been caused by the Covid vaccines to so many people around the world. However that can't be agreed as Shree Krishna, Shree Rama both incarmations of Shree Vishnu took birth in North in dark complexion, are revered by North Indians with equal furvur. So it cannot have a cultural connection.
