My V85 came with the aluminum panniers without handles. First time I took them off knew I was going to install handles. It's easy to do and makes a big difference.

😂😂😂 That is, by a country mile, the best video I have ever seen on RU-vid. All of my previous questions answered with a simple opening up of the pannier. One small criticism though, white bread? That may be standard fare if you were a Honda or Yamaha rider, but surely Moto Guzzi deserves, at the very least, multigrain? Your comment at the end.....😂😂😂😂👌

I just bought my travel edition but haven’t taken delivery of it yet.I ordered the top box and engine guards which they will be fitting.The travel comes with its own luggage which, in my mind, is aesthetically more appealing than the aluminum cases.Anything that absolutely cannot get wet,I seal in plastic.I don’t plan on getting caught in the rain.😂
@MultiVogon
@MultiVogon 2 года назад
I'm sure you'll love it when it finally arrives! Yes, the travel luggage looks nice. I don't like the look of alloy cases either. There's no denying their practicality though. So far I've not had any water ingress - and that includes an ill-advised ford crossing. Apparently the water was almost up to the top of the exhaust. I was soaked, the bow-wave came over the TOP of the screen, but the cases were dry inside 🤣

@@shakymctwitch8615 Thanks. I like the Centenario as well. I think I'd prefer the top opening design.
@MultiVogon
@MultiVogon 3 года назад
The panniers are very solidly built. My feeling is that ally top-opening panniers would be more practical, especially if you're on a long trip and packing/unpacking them every day. However for me these are fine and I think they look a lot nicer than having a wall of alloy behind you.. ;-) There is anecdotal evidence of hinge pins working their way out in some cases - I've not seen it myself but will be checking them every time I use them to be sure.

How’s the Guzzi going? Do you still have it? I’ve just sold my 97 Honda VFR, great bike but not for me, it was just a stop gap bike. So I’m shopping for another bike. If I go the adv route the MG is high on my list. Lots of test rides ahead. 👍
@MultiVogon
@MultiVogon Год назад
I always wanted a VFR 'back in the day' - they always sounded good too. Yes still got the MG. Got several videos lined up to finish editing but haven't had the time/enthusiasm - really must pull my finger out. All I would say is that having a good dealer probably makes all the difference. I don't have one nearby unfortunately. Also spares from Italy can take quite a while by all accounts. I think they've sold well (by Guzzi standards) so there should be some good choice of 2nd hand and new models available. Enjoy your bike shopping!

What is really annoying is the fact that you need the key each time you want to open the bags. As a remedy I ground off a little edge on the stainless steel hook inside the bag locking mechanism. This way you can turn it to the fully open position (90 degrees) and remove the key from the lock. I have a picture but can't seem to attach it here.
@MultiVogon
@MultiVogon Год назад
Yes that is a bit annoying. That's quite interesting, I'll have a closer look next time I get the panniers out, cheers. At least you can't lock the keys inside (which a friend did with her (givi I think) topbox - d'oh!)

Have fun, they're great bikes. I just looked and it seems a full face helmet will fit in the urban top case - so I might consider one in the future... but they're nearly £500 here in the UK... which is a lot of petrol... I mean, you know, probably two tank's worth at least... ;-)
@ozyrob1

I want all the goodies the travel has but I don't care for the paint colour. I will most likely buy the bike in red and white (2024 model) and add all the travel gear from their accessories. It's an expensive way to do it. I was considering buying the travel then buying the tank, side covers and fairing in the factory colours I want but even then I'd not get the red frame that I like. I really do wish they'd offer the travel with the same colours as the standard V85TT.
@MultiVogon
@MultiVogon 4 месяца назад
Hi, I'll be honest I didn't really like the colour in pictures, but in reality it's grown on me. I got the travel as I wanted most of the accessories that came with it to be fair. I think the KFC is probably my favourite colour too. Hope you find what you're after! Cheers.

They seemed to be - I rode through some biblical rain without issues. I guess If you put a lot of weight in them such that the plastic starts to deform then you might have issues maybe. They're pretty solidly built though.

I recently went to the Moto Guzzi dealer to figure out which V85TT I need to get. I like the Travel's heated grips, windshield and driving lights but I simply cannot get jiggy with the side cases opening on the side and not having a top lid like the adventure model. I've had this type of cases on my Aprilia Futura and I absolutely hated the fact that everything would fall out whenever I had to get something out of the cases, especially when the bike was on the kick stand. As for keeping them dry while riding in the rain......good luck. Top lid cases are the only true waterproof solution. Yes, the travel's cases are sexier but functionality is crap. I'm going for the adventure model instead and get the tail box included, too
@MultiVogon
@MultiVogon 2 года назад
Yep, if you want practicality and to spend time touring, big top-loading cases are the way to go. However I don't really need that, & don't like the 'Ewan & Charlie' look that they give ;-) However the 'urban' panniers are of course very compromised, especially the exhaust-side. They have been waterproof so far at least. The heated grips and extra lights are worth having. The jury is out on screens - lots of heated debate online about which ones work! The other 'travel' extra is the MIA (nav/phone interface) which is pretty crap in my opinion - I certainly wouldn't pay extra for it. Shame, as the integrated nav screen looks lovely, it's just crippled by having to use the shite MG App. I don't think you will be disappointed by any V85 model - you can always mix and match accessories to get exactly the bike you want 👍

@@MultiVogon I finally got one, the red 2021 adventure. I also got a decent deal, $1000 off list and 3.99 APR. Have you looked what the used ones go for? It's getting silly and insane. The way Moto Guzzi has structured their models is strange. They trade the rear tail box in favor of fog lights , heated grips and a larger windshield. Best part, the bikes are pre-wired for the options. If I had the choice, I'd go with the heated grips and driving lights and buy the tail box separately. Knowing how important these options are for an adventure bike they should have no trouble selling them and not creating confusion towards their customers. Anyway, I'm not butt hurt, I love Moto Guzzis and $500 wouldn't be a deal breaker. besides, dealing with Italian corks is part of the ownership experience.
@MultiVogon

@@tedmarakas2626 Nice one. Yeah second hand everything is insane here in the UK at the moment. I never understood the trim options but at least you can plug-and-play most bits as the bikes are all the same underneath. Enjoy!
@marcel6264
@marcel6264 3 года назад
If you had have the choice of cases, would it be the aluminum ones or the urban ones? The Urban ones can load each side 5KG and have a width on the bike of 92cm (Great for daily urban use) The Alu's can have 10KG each side but have a width of 106cm. (can be an issue driving in a traffic jam.
@MultiVogon
@MultiVogon 3 года назад
Well I've never had alloy panniers before, because I don't want the massive bulk of them (also: £££!). However I can appreciate that loading from the top is a lot more convenient than loading from the side - especially with no bungees or inner bags available from MG (that I know of, anyway). What I will say is that this is the first bike I've had with a high exhaust - and it really does reduce the pannier size on that side with the urban cases, which is a shame.

I read about that on FB too - I checked mine whilst away and they haven't moved. I will definitely be keeping an eye on them. Hopefully it was just a 'bad batch' (doesn't help you of course!) and they're not all like that. I can't see an easy way to prevent them coming out - you can't really peen them, it wouldn't help anyway. Maybe a blob of epoxy over the end perhaps.

I saw on one of the FB groups that there was a TSB for the hinge pins: TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION G_200460_TC_EN 13/10/2020 - if you google the code number you can find the document.

I know, right? Might look into retro-fitting some GIVI ones or something, but that would involve drilling holes and riveting so I'm not sure I want to go to the trouble just yet. Some proper shaped inner bags would be a good option too.
