Go bump in the night in 19th century Scandinavia! Bland Gaming polishes off his best Dad trophy and takes you by the hand in a world of ghost stories, curses, and dread in Free League's latest release. And although I did go over my wife's time limit of 20 minutes, I am proud to say the least technically advanced channel on the internet is NEW and IMPROVED! Now featuring MUSIC from a state of the art BLUE TOOTH SPEAKER! Marvel at the creepy tunes and let's look at why you should pre-order this game now!

Another enjoyable one - technically inept or otherwise! ;) Looks to be a beautiful book and an intriguing system.. saw it described somewhere as cozy fireplace horror.. really like the old european folklore feel, and the flavour of the setting seems great too.

That is a GREAT way to describe it. But again, it is not light on the horror. The themes are very unsettling. Think of the motivation behind spirit in the Grudge.

Interesting. Well indeed Uppsala ( modern spelling ) is the 4th largest town in sweden. Born and raised just outside. So if you have any questions feel free to ask. I don't have the game but I own a lot of other games. Uppsala is mostly known for it's University. A bunch of elements in the periodic table was "discovered" there. Also famous for scientists Celsius and Linneus. The map is more or less historical correct. I just love maps and history. Although not a fan of folklore and stuff.

Thanks for the video, Deeb. I found it very informative. I actually had Vaesen delivered yesterday and look forward to trying it out.

Dear Sir. This is Hall Park from Korea. We are localizing Vaesen for Korean and we wonder we could use your video for the people. Would be great help for our people who are not very familiar with the system. We would like to have your permission. Thank you. Hall Park

Thanks for the review. I'm looking into getting into CoC-esque RPG. This seems like a good alternative, and a bit more up my alley. Would you recommend this over CoC for a newbie to this genre?
@blandgaming6222
@blandgaming6222 4 года назад
The system is certainly more streamlined in Vaesen. Both Call of Cthulhu and Vaesen are heavily story based. Call of Cthulhu is a bit more lethal and unforgiving to players. There is a fear mechanic in Vaesen, but it does not have the mind blasting madness of CoC. The stories of CoC can be about the end of the world, while Vaesen stories read like crackling fire ghost stories. They are both magnificent, but apples and oranges. If you are just starting out GMing, I'd encourage you to try Vaesen first, then move on to CoC. Then after mastering both of those, look at Delta Green. Have fun, and don't forget to check your closet before bed. 😉

Have you ever gmed Monster of the Week? I could imagine you would love that. It´s like Supernatural/Buffy meets X-Files (powered by the apocalypse) I run a campagne that´s set in the 80´s my group is tryvelling through the states and Mexico hunting down Monsters. I love it. Bought this one because of the Setting and the Vaesen themselves. Can´t wait to gm this one too.

What you say about Vaesen, don't read if you are a player. I both play and GM, do you think I will spoil it if I read all of it before I play it?
@blandgaming6222
@blandgaming6222 4 года назад
I think you will have minor spoilers in the form of knowing the weaknesses to each particular Vaesen. As long as you don't meta, you'll still have a lot of fun, but the richest experience would be to have no idea what the Vaesen is, nor how to beat it. None of the Vaesen are defeated by straight up combat (for the most part). You have to solve a mystery to figure out how to beat them.

I think so. It wouldn't hurt to add an NPC or 2 to give advice if your PC gets stuck. Just make sure your PC is the star of the show.

I'm amazed by how they tweak the Year 0 to all these different themes! I didn't know this used the system nor did I know the game takes place in these parts (I'm a Finn). Definitely gonna give it a go. Excellent review as always. Really digged the music as well. What is it?

My group loves the year zero engine because it is streamlined and theatric. Thank you, my Finnish friend for watching. I am well overdue to review the Twilight 2000 RPG. Life has me on the ropes I'm afraid. The music is from the video game the Undying. It is composed by Bill Brown. As an added bonus, also in the mix is Två Konungabarn by Myrkur. I'll include links below.

I do! Being an Irish guy, I ALMOST like it better. I retire in about a year and will catch up on my reviews. Side note: Free League originally sent me the set with very mild cover damage so they sent replacements. I have been planning on giving the original Britain and Ireland set with the dents away on my channel, so tune in!

How hard would this be to bring this to the modern day or dark ages? It seems like the best version of the year zero rules. I don't feel confident in running a 19th century game. I have forbidden lands, but I'm not a huge fan of that implementation of the rules.
@blandgaming6222
@blandgaming6222 3 года назад
I think you could easily make it modern, especially with the upcoming Twilight 2000 rules. However, would you want to? The real charm of the setting is the time period. When we think about some of the best fireplace ghost stories, most of them have roots in the past. I also think a 19th century setting forces characters to rely on their wits over technology. Take Call of Cthulhu for instance... the setting of the 20's made for a creepy experience. When the setting released modern scenarios, they weren't bad, but something was lost. Delta Green did a great job adapting the Cthulhu lore to a modern setting, but by doing so it became an entirely different game. So the short of my answer is yes, but again, you may lose something by doing so.

@@blandgaming6222 thank you! I'll pick up the book and decide then :) at least I know if I want to its achievable.
