I ran this scenario and used your suggestions. Thank you. It was my first time playing Vaesen and watching you video helped me get my head around the scenario. I'm doing silver of the sea next in my campaign and using your video on that. Keep up the good work!

Happy to help! Silver of the Sea is my favorite of the Vaesen adventures I’ve run so have fun with it!

another amazing video. I completely love that beyond a review or explanation you deconstruct a written adventure and offer alternatives this is just really the best resource I have found in a long time. thank you so much

Awesome to see a new video from you and to hear a different voice on it as well. Great job! Personally, I don't mind a villains loan motivation to be greed. There are plenty of super evil people in the real world who only have greed as their motivation with no higher goals and who do not deserve any form of sympathy.

Maybe motivation was the wrong word... would love to know the source of her greed and why she came to do such crazy, desperate things -- like deciding to ask the Neck for tax money haha. In my head canon, she had designs on some sort of occult powers, but when the Neck refused to help her, she decided to drive him out, forgetting that he would happily wreck her and the entire town.

@@1ShotJC I totally get that. I just can't help but think of the greedy fucks who charge insane amounts of money for life saving drugs, or the CRO's who decide to suck all the water out of a region, or any number of awful things that the greedy f#*$s in the real world. I love your channel for sure and thought this was an awesome video!!!

This is the first time I get to hear a review for an adventure that I've actually mastered before. :D As to why the adventurers should go do this town now, the adventure itself suggests that it's actually not planned; they just stumble upon the town on the way to something else. In our case, they were looking for a lake to clean themselves from the grime of their last adventure; the carriage driver knew there was one around but was just as surprised when they ultimately ended up on cobblestone instead of lakeshore. I didn't put a clock on the table, but I played a sound effect of a ringing church bell every time an hour passed (the first one "coincidentally" starting after they read the inscription on the plinth). So they never knew exactly how much time they had left, but they did get a sense that the time was important, and they did figure out (from observing the sky and the writing on the plinth) that they had until sunrise and that that would be around 6 hours from when they arrived. The one "downside" was that the ringing of the bell immediately attracting them towards the church. In our run, the crew managed/happened to not wake the sow until their second-to-last building...and when it transformed, they simply booked it out of town, leaving the last unexplored building...the town hall with the innocent soul. They also did not touch any of the gold. So while they didn't manage to save her, they did puzzle together what happened and got out alive to try again the year after or share their knowledge with others of the order.

That's a good point -- the adventure does suggest that the PCs could just stumble upon this town. But since I ran it as a one-shot for new players, I was hungrier to give them a better reason to spend time in an obviously cursed town. Love your idea for the ringing bell!

The first thing I can think of to represent greed instead of a pig is a dragon. Not necessarily winged, but this serpentine wyrm. Even has precedent in Nordic/Germanic legend in the story of Fafnir, who was so greedy that HE turned into a dragon!

Haha, love the idea of a wyrm - and now I’m embarrassed I didn’t think of this obvious metaphor for greed :-)

Nice review. I'm going to check it out and I like those suggestions; clock, bible motivations, mother-daughter angle ... Really good. Would you be able to do the Alien destroyer of worlds module review? I would find it really useful!

If the players didn't want to touch any treasure throughout the course of their play, then how does it make sense that they'd make off with a bunch of the gold at the end of the adventure? Cursed gold for a reward. I don't know. If it were me, I'd just leave all the coins and riches where they are ... I liked the scenario & the vid. though. Great review.

Yes this was the issue - if the only reason to go to the town was treasure, most horror-knowing PCs won’t touch it. But if you add more motivation - collecting lost books or sooner introducing the idea of rescuing the innocent person - it works way better.

Looks liek a good adventure you could use in lots of games

Yes! This one could easily make for a fun, spooky adventure even for non-horror games, like 5E.

Sorry, but this grated on my ear the whole review: "sow", as a noun meaning "female pig", is pronounced to rhyme with "cow".
@1ShotJC
@1ShotJC Год назад
Ack you are right. Funny enough when I did my review of the Night Sow someone told me it was NOT like Cow. No more giant pig videos for me anymore!

I had someone correct my pronunciation; but that was because down under they say it totally different. She was right for Australia but I was right for the USA.
