You had a question about the blank levels for classes - there's a page that talks about leveling up which explains that you get to pick a Perk at those levels. This makes your characters super customizable. I hope you get more into the magic system in the next video! It's one of my favorite parts of the system, and super unique!
The Disengage thing is very similar to Pathfinder 1 and 2. Pathfinder 1 has 5-foot steps, and PF2 has Step (same idea). Each is a 5ft move that doesn't provoke reaction attacks
@@m.b.8701 I'm sure you know this already, but Pathfinder 1e is a clone of D&D 3.5. It can be helpful when people design games to be able to go back to the source of an idea so they see it in its original context and they can get other ideas, and they don't have to reinvent the wheel so much.
@@TheMinskyTerrorist yup! I find it easier to find (non-defunct) resources for PF1 over 3.5, so that's why I usually reference that. Plus it did away with a few (though not nearly all) of the finicky concepts that don't really have a place in modern TTRPG design
Had the same question when I backed yesterday. You don't yet, it was added for the people who already have the PDF but wanted to support and get stretch goals.
@@leojones1964 Oh also, you probably don't know the answer to this, but if you purchase directly through their website, you probably won't be getting the stretch goals will you (extra classes etc)?
13:42 The ability for monsters to always hit feels like what's done in Dragonbane, where you roll on a table (I think they're all d6 tables) and do what it says, making it the P. C.'s duty to avoid the damage, which I like.
Vagabond sounds interesting, i may have to borrow some of the ideas for my own sessions, Although my own game is very simple comparatively, maybe too simple for some but our table enjoys it, and as in a lot of new games, we can generate a pc in 5 min, combat may last 5-10 min depending on the number of players, usually 5 ish min. We may not have the lavish character options like 5E or other similar games, but we do have pcs that can fight, do magic, heal and anything in between without being a specific archetype [similar to carin and knave]. Ok some self-promo sorry:) good vid sir glad i found yer channel. Cheers, Keep 'em Rollin'
Yes, because there is no Armor Class (Armor reduces damage, not negate it) and enemies don't roll to hit. It's a system that's light on the DM. The difficulty to succeed checks and attacks are on the PC's character sheets.
First time I came across abstracted distances (Close, Near and Far) was in ICRPG, I dunno if it was the first but my players actually felt the same about it as you do (Close and Near are pretty "close" in meaning so they can be ambiguous) I think I'd like to find less ambiguous terms for it as well but these are so common 😢
I feel like Luck could also be allowed to be used to do "Major Exploits" as in Tales of Argosa which is sort of a way to allow every character to do cool things but I'm not sure if that's the spirit of the game
"Intercepts" also called Attacks of Opportunity slow combat down. It's the first rule I throw out. It stops the flow of combat more than anything else.
interestingly i have the exact opposite opinion. More attacks mean more damage, so things tend to die faster. And the fact that creatures can't retreat and run away to hide as easily also helps to "force" the combat to resolve quickier Every time there was a player capable of avoiding oportunity attacks for free(like desengage with bonus action) in one of my tables, their turns tend to take longer as they waste more time planning their movement trying to apply a "hit and run" strategy
Combat needs to be interesting, not fast, who cares if the combat lasts 2h if everyone is entertained and having fun. You can just say the combat is over as soon as it starts and call for a winner, cant get any faster than that, and thats hardly interesting...
2 reasons: 1. Vagabond's story has nothing to do with pulp fantasy. 2. The word vagabond doesn't come from manga. It's a real word that is not, typically, associated with manga
@@Drago5899 of course of course, I saw the video, it was a good look at the idea. Just saying, it would have been fun to see Vagabond listed under manga inspiration for a ttrpg by the same name
