Nilas spasov I felt the same sensation. As they progress during the years they stop to just do combinations and become dancers. The final exam has something magical because they are really dancing and not executing exercises. I love the fact that sometimes they have something different one from the other because they are no more students so they are expressing something..... magical. Like the music and the dance cannot be stopped anymore

Their teacher does! She knows who’s best and places them in the central bar and in front during the second part of the exam

One of the girls, Maria Khoreva, is 18 (though she was still 17 at the time of this exam), so I guess they’re all about this age as well. The education at the VBA takes 8 years, meaning that these girls were in their final year during this exam (as they were in 8th grade) and graduated this summer. As far as I know, VBA students actually live at the academy (or at least those who don’t come from St. Petersburg), as they have an intense, jam-packed schedule - featuring not only dance classes, but also secondary school education and more. :)

They are all 17-18 except for Darya Ionova who studied elsewhere and got accepted to the 6th year directly, at 18. So she is 3 years older.

I suspect it was removed because Vaganova academy complained, copyright and all. They don't allow now to film their exams. We don't know how that channel got its videos. Their website no longer exists either.

17-18 for all. Basically, the 1st year is 10-11 on September 1st, this is 8th year and end of April. So it's 17-18 for most. When they turn 18 depends on when their birthday is. Maria Bulanova ended up ahead of her class, but she was still 17 at the time of this exam, she turned 18 several months later, either late in the same year or early the following year.

15-16. They learn also a bit faster, spend much more time...If they we're 18, they we're nearly ready but they do 3rd year on point and do it better than others...

Given the fact that Maria Khoreva is 18 (even though she was still 17 at the time of this exam), I’d say they were all about that age as well. :)

@Andrea Taibel - lol, you are confusing 3rd year with 8th year, did you even watch the video? If you had, you'd see how ready they are. 4 of them are in Mariinsky now. This is the 8th year, the first year is 10-11 on September 1st, this is 8th year April, so yes, they are 17-18. Maria Bulanova skipped a year (had to leave after the 1st year, came back for the 6th and ended up a year ahead of her former class), but as her birthday is in January (of this year), she was already 17 at the time of this video. Another exception is Darya Ionova who studied elsewhere and got accepted to the VBA directly to the 6th grade, but at 18. So she is 3 years older than everyone here. As to the pointe, they start it in the second half of their first year.

@@yarinka_rukodelochka Рассчитать можно все, что угодно, а здесь как раз неудобно: a' la симфония Моцарта, сюита Генделя и т.д., это очень тормозит, это неудобно и даже нелепо и акценты не помогают, а утяжеляют движение, недаром во время экзамена педагог начинает считать им громко! И к чему культивировать стиль " Классическая сюита" на класс перенося? Есть более комфортный и стильный материал, а это ни уму, ни сердцу!
