I think her Olympic Gold standard probably pushed them to be better than they though they could be. It seems all her partners are the best versions of themselves when she is dancing.
It is now 2020 and I still don't understand how she didn't get all 10's for this performance. This is one of the best Argentine Tango's from the show 💯
@@brook2000 Len said there was too much staccato for the Argentine Tango. The steps were two short and sharp for the Argentine Tango the way it's supposed to be danced in competition.
Kendall S. Jeez! I always wonder why someone has to be less in order for someone to be "better" or "best." Val is a fabulous dancer. But so is Derek. And they both are talented choreographers. They have their own styles.I just don't understand this need to put people down.
Didn't say he was bad just said he was overrated soooo. They act like he's the best thing since sliced bread. While other pro dancers aren't appreciated as much and are overlooked
I've been teaching dance for five years. This is solid. 10/10. It's very hard to get that kind of connection on the dance floor. Good for them. Now, imagine leading this for four-five minutes without the crowd. Imagine the intimacy. Imagine the connection. This exhibition for a TV show is a momentary glimpse into another world. Everyone watching out there - START DANCING! Wonders await.
maybe cuz he's fully clothed for once? lol...don't get me wrong I love Val and his sexy self without a shirt but there's something about a guy in a suit or formal attire...plus the argentine tango is a passionate, sexy, sultry dance.
Still watching this 4 years later. Mesmerizing. I can only imagine how excited these two brothers were to dance with such an amazing Olympic champion and dancer. Even the pros are not Olympic gold medalists.
I've started to notice the difference styles between Maks & Val when it comes to the Argentine Tango. Val highlights the power of the dance & Maks highlights the sensuality of it...both brothers without question are superb at this dance so no wonder their new celebrity partners always excel when they learn it. Incredible tutors / mentors obviously just by viewing this video! 10 from me.
***** True. Instead of trying to decide what pro is best, for me it's easier to sit back and appreciate what each on is best AT. I love Mark's contemporary and foxtrot, Derek's charleston and jive, and Val's tango, samba and rumba. Interesting how the ladies don't get compared nearly as much as the gentlemen on the show, but Sharna and Cheryl probably have my heart forever as favorites in most dance categories. Also Karina for her fire. :)
When I saw Val and Meryl’s dance it did seem like a sexual escapade .. when meryl dances with Maks it’s like an old deep sweet and passionate love.. while with val it’s like a raunchy one night stand .. something bottled up for quite a while and now becoming free XD 😂
Meryl Davis the "purest Argentine tango" ever performed. She never loses the intimate connection while staying in character and doing all the tricks. The lifts are sublime. Dovalani & Rycroft take note on how it supposed to be done.
Tonetare There's 17 thumbs down now... and one comment describes Meryl's movements as "a little sloppy". I know you commented a year ago, but I thought you might like an update. I believe it's a sign of the Apocalypse if this video ever receives a total of 20 thumbs down...
Meryl is so focused when she performs whether on the dance floor here or on the ice rink, she is truly dedicated to being the best. Love to watch her anytime.
This dance was amazing. Val did great choreographing this. I wish Maks did a better job choreographing his Jive with Danica (Val's partner) considering what Val did with Meryl.
I personally think the judges should judge on how well the star does the dance and less on if they don't like the choreography . The star does decide or choose it the pro does so it's not their fault. Like if a judge does like a flashy perform I don't think the star should get marked down for it . Now if the choreography is really basic and watered down in the final I think they should marked down for that but not for if they don't like the style of the performance
Meryl is so much the total package. Hardworking, sweet,.talented big time!!!!.....I will be so devastated if Amy gets the Mirror Ball instead of Meryl.
Len can be a bit cranky at times. I think he feels it's still to early in the season to be giving 10's even though the dance is all that should matter.
I liked the A Tango when she was a Lady of the Night..The scene of her on a post with him on a chair, with the lighting all in red..Now that was brilliant..
***** I liked him better too, if only because Maks is just way too familiar with all his dance partners. Val wasn't far behind with his occasional kisses on the cheek, but that was nothing compared to what Maks does.
***** I'm watching this again (for the 1000th time, at least!), and with the perspective that some disance can give you. Maks, because he was attending at least some of he SOI performances to be able to practice with Meryl (as was Sharna with Charlie) knew that although someone as strong as Meryl may appear to have unlimited physical, mental, and emotional strength, stretching her too much would just result in a broken rubber band, so to speak. Did anyone notice how tired she was starting to look the last few weeks of the show? If this dance had come toward the end of the show, it may very well have been a simpler dance. Max is perfectly capable of choreographing spectacular dances (Mel B's paso and Brandy's AT, to mention a few), and I think it's highly likely that he took Meryl's schedule into consideration when creating the dances. He did say in an interviewt hat Meryl had "hit a wal|" by week 9. A routine doesn't necessarily have to have lots of fliips and tricks to be a great routine, you know, and with Meryl's ability, she can make almost any choreography look easy. And I think for those of us who are not dancers or choregraphers, Maks choreography may have appeared more understated than it acaully was.
Miel Mani You are right in that at this point into season 19 wek 6 I can look back and TOTALLY miss Maks and His AWESOME choreography and manliness that he brought to the show.
First off, this was an amazing routine. Their movements were on point. That being said, she is a professional ice dancer! She can do this on ice, is it really that shocking that she can move like this on a dance floor? I mean.....
Exactly! How could Len give them a nine but give Derek and Amy a 10? Val and Meryl used the whole floor, and Amy sat on a chair, plus there was a mishap with the stool. Perfect is perfect, is this routine was just that. The only reason why I think he gave the 9 was because he didn't want Val to upstage his brother!
Haha so true!! This dance was the best so far On this season! Way better than those with Max, I love him but Val is a much better choreographer than Max.
