JK Rowling (Robert Galbraith) in conversation with Val McDermid at Harrogate International Festival 2014. Rowling talks for the first time publicly about writing the Strike novels and more (Audio only).
17:34 - 20:56 such a relief to hear someone speak realisticly about having a disability. None of that “courage, strength and opportunities” nonsense but an honest look into the relentless day-to-day grind, anger, frustration and misery.
I like Murder Mysteries. When I go to the library I always look for the book spines in the audiobook section that have a hat and a spyglass. One day I was in the G surnames and came across Cuckoo. I was a quarter of the way through and decided to google Robert Galbraith. I was blown away J.K when I found out it was your pseudonym.
Great interview. As a writer I loved being reminded that thinking about your next book (which will be the best work ever) will get you working overtime to finish up your current novel.
What an exciting thing indeed to listen to two of my favorite writers speaking together. A beautiful collision indeed. My only dissenting voice is in regard to Dorothy Sayers. I prefer Black Adder but was brought up on that classic period of mysteries. I must come to her defence. We take for granted things that were (vis. A Room of One's Own)not available in a period where women were pioneers of self-determination and it really was so deeply imprinted on her. If you think of that, Harriet makes more sense. Forget all the other mysteries, and think of Gaudy Night. All is explained. Whimsey is so intimately anatomized; I do think she made up her ideal Other in the Platonic sense. And she's also a born Hermione, and although JK Rowlings (no idea how to address this august presence) uses Latin in context, Sayers books were written in the undertow of PG Wodehouse; it was a different world. I studied Dante, and her translations were much admired. Kudos to you both. Never stop writing!
Great interview!I enjoyed it tremendously!Thank you for uploading!I love this woman.she means so much to me and I really can't put it into words.I'm really excited she's writing this crime novels because I adore the genre and because I always felt Harry's books had this element in them too.I'm also glad Jo is writing something she loves and excites her and I really can't wait for more installments from Strike's world!
Listened to this before and after I read the first two 'Strike' novels. Alot of what they're talking makes much more sense the second time. Great interview. Robert Galbraith is a great writer.
