Valach VM R5-250 radial engine flight test in Grumman F3-F2

Since April 2017, the new Valach VM R5-250 radial engine has been flight tested in my Grumman F3-F2 and I flew it at countless airshows. After the end of the season, in October 2017, I took the opportunity to fully use the power of the engine, without any restrictions and without caring about others, claiming that this is too much speed for a full-size F3-F2 or the original could not perform such maneuvers. I made a lot of flights and tested different propellers. This video shows a full flight, unedited from take-off to the landing, with the Fiala 3-blade 32x14" prop.
Sorry about the background noise during landing, there is a freight-train passing half a mile from the airfield.

Beautiful plane and a terrific scale subject. Question: have you ever had any issues with the VM 250 overheating? Does it require baffles? Thanks.

Hello, as we use a Baffle plate similar to this one vrtule-fiala.cz/373-thickbox_default/baffles-for-vm-250-r5.jpg we did not had any overheating issues. Hi Richard, the engine in my Grumman F3-F2 is the first prototype. The production engines should be 6.2kg, this is of course including the stainless steel muffler ring, the ignition, the electric fuel pump and even the prop washer and prop bolts :-).

The weight of the series production engine is 5950g including propwasher, prop screws and ignition.
