She just fired the president and GM 3 years ago. They decided after last year that mediocrity wasn't gonna cut it either and dumped Caldwell too. So what specific suggestions do you have for the ownership? "Find someone good"? Well no shit!
I really AGREE with Mike about Ownership ! It really sucks and everyone on the head of management for this franchise is lacking professionalism and lacking understanding on what to do and how to build a team. I can agree about what's been going on with Patricia, he has had many mistakes. It all now depends on new ownership !
@@joesmith-ko2jf as long as the Fords still own this team as long as their name is attached to the Detroit Lions organization we will never win anything and as long as we still pour money into that damn stadium, we deserve exactly what we get which is 60 years of 💩💩
With all the rumors going around about Dan Gilbert trying to buy The Tigers, buy The Lions instead. Get The Ford's out of ownership already. I agree with Valenti 100%, even though they destroyed The Pack in the final game. You want to become a 1st class organization, it starts with ownership. I was surprised Mrs. Ford gave the green light to Bob Quin to fire coach Caldwell after last season. Only The Lions would fire the most successful coach they have had over two decades, because they missed the playoffs by one game last year. Coach Caldwell went 36-28 with 2 playoff appearances in four seasons, and gets fired? Wayne Fontes got double the amount of time as head coach. Coach Caldwell is experienced, well rounded, well liked by his players, smart, and a very solid football man. I loved watching his press conferences because he always had life lessons to interject while answering the question. He had great stories and analogies as well. The Lions fired coach Caldwell for this Clown...Believable! I'm a life long Lions fan, will always be a life long Lions fan, being from Detroit, but this is a clown show and Bob Quin made a big mistake in hiring someone who wasn't and isn't ready for the job, or to lead men into battle on a football field. The good ol' boys network won't get it done in The D!
Get rid of the COACH, THE GM THE QUARTERBACK AND THE OWNER FOR THAT MATTER---NO TOWN NO CITY ESPECIALLY A CITY THAT IS TRUE AND RICH with history among ALL OF AMERICA WOULD/COULD/SHOULD NEVER PUT UP WITH THIS
You wanna know what's sad? I'd rather listen to the ticket shows then watch or listen to the games that the detroit teams play. The ticket hosts are more entertaining.
marcus- you are correct, but even the Browns kept a coach through two seasons and one win, and in the third season they fire him and immediately improve. How does that happen? I think you can make a really good argument to fire Patricia. He came in to win playoff games, they went from 9 wins to 5 wins. 9 to 5 is a work day, not a progression for a franchise building to success. I'm inclined to think that he has been more of a problem than a solution in this season. We are left to wonder if Caldwell helped Cooter to be better or if Patricia has hampered Cooter into being worse. Stafford has never played this poorly. What's different? Patricia is different. (In more ways than one) I don't care if they keep Patricia for another season or fire him. The Lions will have to earn my attention going forward, and for many of you, I would suggest that you follow the same course. Especially if you measure your fan history in decades, not years. One playoff win since I became a fan in 1970, maybe 1969. One! Unacceptable.
i honestly would like to know what you think can be improved. He hasn't fixed anyone. the defense doesn't look better than last year. stafford is worse the team is worse the team doesn't particularly care for him. His approach is awful he's inexperienced he doesn't know how to be a professional. And I'm sad to say it but when bad coaches get extra year in detroit it usually ends up giving a bit of hope for the next year and then its the same process i say fire him now because ultimately if bob quinn keeps him it could be his job that he loses
Don’t hire coaches from the Belichick coaching tree, it will get you nowhere. Unlike Bill Parcels or Bill Walsh that established excellent coaching philosophies and left behind excellent coaching trees Belichick has not, for a very simple reason, he does not tell his assistants how is it that he is still getting offensive and defensive calls for his opponents, that is why he keeps winning no matter what players or assistant coaches he has and that is why all his assistants that go to coach other teams fail miserably. Bill Belichick aka the Lance Armstrong of football.
Literally everyone needs to be fired. OC, DC, and HC. Patrica is literally awful and doesn’t hold himself or anyone else accountable, wether cooter sucks or is being held back either way you cannot keep him through 3 different coaching regimes. The new Head Coach next year which I be there will be needs to hire a whole staff on his own.
The Lions are the worst NFL franchise in the history of professional football. Grew up in Michigan, grew up a Lions fan since the mid 60s. One lousy playoff win in all those years. Even the Buffalo Bills had 12 great seasons in the 80s and 90s. The problem isn’t the players, the problem isn’t the coaches. It starts at the top. They have the worst ownership of any professional sports organization. No drive or dedication to win. No desire to put a quality product on the field. They will keep this up because it’s still profitable to operate in this manner. If it wasn’t for the NFL revenue sharing and tv money they would have died like the dinosaurs years ago. Until ownership changes the Lions will continue to be an embarrassment.
At least the Browns are moving in the right direction.... Lions have been losers for Generations and it wont stop until they wake up and realize that what they are currently fielding isnt working... move on and change it up...The NFL is an Offense league and we hired a DC as a coach... big mistake and it will not change because we have no real owner.
The lions were one of the best teams in 2014. They really did win that playoff game against dallas. Jerry Jones got the "Pettigrew interference call" reversed. 11-5 Lions getting ripped in that game as affected this team to this day. The lions needed that playoff win. The lions and Seattle had the best 2 defences in the league. Patricia will be fine. He needs time. The lions defence as played really well since the acquisition of "Snacks" Giving Golden Tate away is not Patricia's fault.
Everyone keeps throwing this is an offensive league and yet who has been the most consistent coach in the last 2 decades? You do know Belichick is a defensive minded coach, right?
@In the land Of the blind when they lost to Cincinnati and Baltimore that year, was beyond the pale. I thought he should of been fired after the "phantom face mask" hail Rogers play at Ford field (no calvin in the endzone) The worst thing? His silence when Jerry Jones got the Pettigrew interference call reversed in the 2014 playoff game against dallas. If I would been the lions head coach, I would of pulled my team off the field until they reversed the call back. The Golden Tate play against Atlanta? This man said, Nothing!!!!! The nine men on the field against Baltimore? I hated Caldwell.
they can both be bad with one being worse than the other. The NFL is an offensive league and they hired a DC that couldn’t force a punt in the super bowl against a backup QB. I don’t care what personnel you have, that’s beyond incompetent.
Caldwell was better than the other coaches the Lions had in the last 10 years did he have three winning seasons ?? Got into the playoffs? They should have gave him a few more years to get all his players in there that he wanted. But I guess they aren't no Pittsburgh Steelers where they've had three coaches in 30 years. the Lions team has never been to the Super Bowl has only won one playoff game in 50 years or more. Root for another NFL team in Detroit.
Interesting take. Patricia definitely is an odd sock, but remember this is the Detroit Lions, a money making side hustle for the Fords, and his odd, sloppy behavior is magnified due to the uneven and disappointing results on the field. Firing him after year one would be extreme, and probably could be or should be done if someone with even a modest track record was available.
Fire Patricia... Call him back and refire him... That's how bad of a coach he is. Fire his buddy Quinn too. If was owner I would've already have fired Patricia. Fluidity....I got some fluid for him! The fluid rhymes with Dumb
Like I stuck with them the last 16 years since I started watching football when I was 12 and I have never been this down on them. But something in me clicked. I am rooting for the Browns now which is a crazy thought. I live in Ohio but at least they are on the come up.
I find it funny that all Mike does every day is criticize people like Stafford and Patricia who have worked their asses off for years to become successful and reach the top of their fields when all Mike has ever accomplished is sitting behind a desk and whining all day. Send this man back to NY and get Terry back on the air
Why haven’t his Giants fired their HC? I guess they aren’t a real organization. This is the same coach that he wanted in NY and now he acts likes he knew he wasn’t a good HC lol. Sounds like Colin Cowherd over here.
True. You said something smart for a change, Mike. I can't believe I'm agreeing with you. Patricia was brought here to "take the Lions to the next level....." Well this season was a total disaster and he should go, now!
At least the players would've PLAYED for Caldwell they NEVER would've played like they've played this year and considering that THIS IS THE LIONS that's saying alot
He won't get fired because that makes too much sense, which is what the lions organization tends to stray away from, which is doing things that make sense.
We missed on Vrabel. Reason why is the good old boy network. Quinn always knew that he was going to present the job to Patricia. Bottom line is standing at the LH of Belicheck isn't enough to hand him this job. Leadership is important and routinely showing up late to meetings that YOU CALL simply isn't professional. It shows a lack of organization. No way in the hell his players are going to respect him and he's wasting their time. What happens when a player shows up late? You going to fine him?? Yeah right gtfoh....Smh Another train wreck
You're a joke. Fire Matt Patricia after one season? We didn't go 0-16. We didn't go 1-15 or even 2-14 like Caldwell has done with previous teams. If we aren't in the playoffs next season, then Quinn and Patricia need to go.
Stop acting like you expect the Lions to be a professional organization, they never have been. Get off your high-horse. Lions have always been losers, it's not like Patricia showed up and ruined everything. I guess you got a few extra clicks today though, congrats
I could care if his beard was long as Billy Gibbons of ZZ-TOP. I don't care what he looks like. I don't care if he's late. Its wins and losses!!!!! All his best players were hurt on offence. They gave Golden Tate away. MJ jr. Out! Kerryon Johnson out. You can't fire him after one year.
If you really want a legitimate answer... its because he had reached his maximum....what the lions were doing is relying 100% on Stafford to win games. That is NOT sustainable in the NFL Caldwell at 9-7 was the "best" he was ever going to be...These are the reasons he is gone.
I did not think he was going to be a good hire. His coordinator selection was very questionable. I hate that he wont be fired Stafford deserves blame but a lot of blame goes to this guy. I do think the defense with be okay but overall this team is going to be terrible i don't think things will get better i was so happy this team didn't win this year because these guys are clowns and i wanted them to be fired mid season but the killing part is these guys wont be fired but what i hope happens by some miracle is the Bob Quinn is fired because he's made terrible decisions. But that wont happen. we wont make the playoffs next year. Stafford wont get any better and ultimately and not wishing it on her but this team wont prosper until Martha Ford passes away and her children sell the team because they don't want it at all
I'm not ready to give up on MP. Its his first season. There are some hof head coaches who had bad first seasons. Being late to press meetings isn't enough to convince me he should be fired. I'm going to wait and see if there's any improvement. If not then maybe another purge.
so here's the thing we fire a head coach his first year that would be no better then a browns move and there learning what happens when you rush things, if your going to blame anything for this team performance, you look at JBC and Stafford, cause there the only constants from last year, if your gonna say fire a man cause he's not talking to a bunch of rats whatever, no one should care about appearances they should care about performance and honestly the defense improved as of late finally getting the new schemes and why do they fall apart you ask well tell me how well you fell after your offence is only out there for a min, Staffords your problem and are team media is to stupid to get it
The Giants didn't pass on Patricia. MP passed on the Giants. Valenti is an entertainer. His job is to sensationalize and create viewership and listenership for the advertisers that pay his salary. BTW, the Lions are owned by a group. Martha is the chairman of that group.
Y'know what is sad? I'm roughly the same age as Mike, we are both graying out and getting older. The last time the Lions won a playoff game, we were children. What is even more sad is me and Mike and everyone else our age will probably be completely white haired before the Lions win another playoff game. Really really, sad.
Wasn't Valenti the one who praised this guy because he showed Bill Belichick how to play the football edition of Moneyball? I will say this, I kept grounded in the red flags of Matt Patricia. He was a disciple of Bill Belichick and history shows that is a decrepit coaching tree. You know how I know BB is a genius of football, because geniuses do not know how to teach. All that notwithstanding, however Patricia's defenses held up or didn't, I always questioned if the Double B training wheels were ever off. Then he hires a mentor who was two years away from retirement to be his DC. I will say if you are a DC in the NFL, even in the Belichick camp, you deserve an opportunity to be a head coach. But it was gonna be more of a trial by fire with Patricia, and Quinn must have been out of his mind if he didn't think there would be a step back for this team with a rookie HC.
The Giants didn't pass on Patricia, Patricia passed on the Giants. Mike just totally lied to our faces and thinks that we are dumb enough to believe it
The all-knowing Valenti comments that, "The problem with Patricia is that he thinks he's smarter than everyone." When is Matt Patricia going to realize that Mike Valenti is the smartest guy in the room.
Hey valenti, you remember you used to run your mouth about Caldwell being a bad coach? Wished you had him back right about now huh? Bet you'd have a better record than you do now Guarantee it!!!
Valenti doesn't care about the Detroit Lions. He's a Giants fan. He is a NY native so it makes sense. Come to think of it though, they're not much better off.
@@jleffel6969 the playoff wins I mean i'm not saying he would be a miracle worker---but at least Jim Caldwell had his players playing for him because he brought a certain level of class and professionalism that they lacked for a long time as well as right now
@@jleffel6969 and i'm gonna tell you somethin right now at the end of the day if your team buys into what you want and what you're doing it shows come gametime---and you could tell that the players were willing to play for Caldwell ONE LOSING SEASON IN FOUR YEARS and that was a 7-9 year
I have really tried to give Patricia an honest chance and take a measure of the man. At the beginning of the year I was excited for some fresh blood, but over and over he has failed to convince me that he knows what he’s doing. Nearly EVERY press conference I’ve watched, my gut feeling that this ISN’T working has not gone away...I realize that the Lions needed something new, but I think this is not going to turn around any time soon...watch Nagy talk to the press, watch Zimmer, and then watch how Patricia drops verbal diarrhea all over the media and manages to get petty on top of that...
As a Saints fan, I feel the same way about Dennis Allen now. He’s not as much of an assclown as Matt Patricia was in Detroit, but he’s never once felt like a real head coach in New Orleans. He’s a glorified interim coach that we’re too scared to move on from, for some reason.
They interviewed Caldwell to satisfy the Rooney Rule.. they are not hiring him.... listen I'll give him credit ...either Patricia's that bad or he spun some magic but Stafford has definitely quit end of story
@@joesmith-ko2jf exactly, he's TRYING TO BE BILL and if The Ford's were smart THEY WOULD HAVE LOOKED AT EVERY OTHER NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS ASSISTANT under Mr. BILL has had NO SUCCESS ON THEIR OWN and Patricia would be SOMEWHERE ELSE COACHING NOT HERE smh
Stupid! You give every coach in every sport minimum three years, why? When you totally change and organization mindset and other words running the football more regularly, you have to be patient. We cannot win throwing the ball 55+ times a game can’t do it. Relax people.
Whats nice is coming back and hearing all the childish and unprofessional behavior from the last guy isn't the current coach. Yea Campbell is a goof, but he's good people. He answers questions honestly and leads the locker room through the worst of times. At the very least he'll be the coach to get us put of this post Patricia storm
A real organization would fire the GM and the coach and the pres of ops but you right this is not a real organization this is THE DETROIT LIONS the worst organization in professional sports on North America
I have two serious question to all lions fans and fair weather fans. 1.) Who do you think we can get to replace Stafford and know for sure it’ll work? 2.) Why do most lions fans love to be backwards like when the fans say the lions should tank and they actually do lose, the fans still trash on the team and complain but when they win, the fans get mad or call it a fluke? Whats up with the negativity? I’m also a Lions fan.
I’m confused how he completely flipped our defense, all we’re missing now is possibly just a corner. And half our offense roster gets hurt and we fire a guy we just signed ? Next year , we have a bad season........ yea get rid of him
This team, no matter who he gets, isn't buying what he's selling. Just like Mike said, this dude is in way over his head, and has no clue what he's doing. And, as long as Stafford is in town, which he will be next season, this team will never be able to build something real. Martha needs to sell the team, Quinn needs to grow a set and fire Patricia, and Stafford needs to be gone after next year. They need to draft his successor, and when the cap hit decreases next season, show his ass the door
Nobody outside of the locker room knows the context of the locker room. How can ANYBODY speak with authority and knowingness about the rules of conduct and agreements that prevail there. By your act of reporting this information you insinuate transgressions by the HFC have taken place. The truth is you're clueless about the inner workings going on at Allen Park
You have to understand, once Patricia, Quinn and Stafford are gone, it doesn't matter. In the immortal words of Bon Jovi "It's all the same, only the names have changed" I started my Lions Fandum with in 1978. It just doesn't matter "It's all the same, only the names have changed"
I remember arguing with Mike briefly when I called in and said the Lions still wouldn't be good. Patriots defense wasn't really that impressive under this guy and that Stafford would drop off because of his skill level, age and having children takes the focus away. Teams a disaster and now I question Bob Quinn.
@@orlandobrown8190 until Stafford got traded and won a freaking super bowl. But I am at least positive still on the current staff. There's things to like so far.
99.9% of the things you say about the sorry ass franchise i usually agree with. but moving on from matt patricia would make things worse and would have to start a 5 year or so rebuild. the lions cant look any worse than they do hiring this guy and firing him would destroy whatever pillars are still standing. hes not a professional but he has to learn ASAP. idk give the guy one more year, who cares not like the lions are going anywhere
how would it make it worse? It would make it worse for him to stay here and we have another year wasted. We shouldn't even worry about if the next coach that comes in will be good we should worry about patricia has shown us he's not capable and its time to move on from him now. but Bob Quinn is his buddy and it looks like he doesn't care about his job either
@@ascoolasitgets72 to be 100% honest bro idgaf about the lions no more stopped watching games a long time ago they can do what they want. but from a football fan standpoint i just see shit spiraling even worse if they let this guy go showing the players that management has no idea what theyre doing and that theyre just wasting their talents here in detroit. whatever happens though, aint no superbowls comin this way any time soon lol
I see what your saying 100 percent. Changing coaches a lot isn’t good but I think it’s better to move on when you can especially if you know the guy you have isn’t the guy. Besides bob Quinn will be taking heat if nothing is better next season
I agree 100% with this. we need to act quickly and find a new HC .. all of Patricia's replies begin with "you know" and "kind of" with many of them sprinkled throughout every response..and that's what punctuality is to him also, just another "kind of" -no that's not going to cut it in NFL.. Rod Marinelli found a nice niche and beard pencil will too
