Just to clarify, not everyone watching her there were ignorant of her music. I'm there in the video myself, actually found out she was planning to play when she announced it on her facebook (her train was delayed), and went to st pancras especially to hear her play. That's why some of us stayed for the entire performance and why there were a few people with professional recording equipment. The reason there's no clapping is because Valentina didn't leave any pauses between the pieces for us to clap for her (she's humble like that). At the end when we had conversations with each other, it was clear that the few of us who stayed were fans of Valentina, knew every piece she played and play instruments ourselves.
@@MegaPianogenius It is her music much as Rachmaninov's, the piano makers' and the audience's. Good thing we have music authorship police around RU-vid, though, to ensure that the work of pianists is undervalued and sets us straight.
Why do people feel the need to ruin the fun with their stupid, over the top explanations about everything. You’re like a man that pulls apart a beautiful butterfly. Just let people enjoy the magic. Jesus Christ, some people are so dull.
For real greats detuned doesn't mean much(to some extent).Knowing that from experience.Maintenance of the grand piano's in concert halls has been my job for a time. Most of the cases it's not the tuning but the TOUCH of the instrument.A bad touch can inhibit the work of the performer. And voicing...complaints about that? useles.!!! Then they should check this in the hall.Real greats keep complaints for themselves.
@@jonathanm.9801 Sounds familiar to me,but..keep in mind...the high octaves should be stretched, otherwise in a larger room it souds to low .Depending to the proportions between the lower partials and the highest. Most frequently occurring with small instruments with short stringing.haha and not to talk about those false beats.
shandfan I didnt mean “middle section” as in the middle octaves of the piano. I meant the middle section of the piece. The middle section of this piece is the part with the arpeggios in the left hand.
That's like seeing Van Gogh painting a canvass at the mall! Amazing and so generous of her to do that for people! Truly someone in love with her art! God Bless you Val!
+Иван Тренев Nice to meet you and thank you for your answer. Best wishes to you in Bulgaria Jo Ps.: When Valentina plays Chopin Nocturne E Flat Major Op.9 No. 2 it is like music from another world/galaxy ......... or from heaven; like an angel is playing the piano.
Valentina is astounding everywhere she plays - but From St Pancras to Gare de Lyon, railway stations don't provide a concert hall accoustic, while they do provide a lot of etraneous noise.
Without any book or notation....without any mistakes. And then playing the most difficult piano parts....and then sitting there behind the piano like....."its so usually". Thats what you call a "MASTER pianist".
did the people KNOW .......... who is playing there????? :-) If they do know not her ......... they will FEEL that there is a very special lady playing. A historical moment for St. Pancras and for the "old" piano!!!
So I showed this video to my 78 year-old mother the other day. Her response? She said, "Well, if she keeps practicing, maybe she can turn it in to something..." So, Valentina, the advice from my mother is to keep practicing. Practice, practice, practice!
I may be in the minority, but I love the sound of detuned pianos: they are telling a journey, a musical story that has been going for so long. The prelude is executed brilliantly: during the legato section, the detuning increases the melancholy, sensing the passing of time. I love all of this!
"Detuned" implies it has been deliberately been made to sound awful. I think it is just neglect and the fact the temp/humidity has made it go wildly out of tune. I'd bet the action is terrible also. It's a wonder she could play on such a poor instrument.
@@chipensemble yes, but a voix-celeste organ stop is detuned using a detuning process to give a wavering sound. 2 pipes deliberately out of tune with each other.
Valentina is absolutely brilliant! An amazing musician. I felt sorry for her having to play this out of tune piano with a shonky action.. I’ve done similar and we have to just keep going and try to ignore the tuning and do our best. She sure did! Bravo - you are one of the best pianists in the world Valentina!
You are an amazing pianist my twin sister Amy loves your work and she idolizes you and she worships the ground you walk on she told me yesterday if she was to meet you in person she would get down on her knees and bow at your feet she plays the piano her self and she is pretty good but she wants to be at the same level you are keep up the good work thank you.
Le musicien, la musique transcende le piano le plus « casserole », le plus désaccordé qui soit! C’est cela le miracle de la musique. Merci à cette musicienne hors pair😃👍
+leboeuf sage ...yes I agree, most people would not know who she was, they just stopped because they thought she was quite fantastic compared to most of the people who have a play there, if I saw her there, I would also not think who she was, as you don't expect to see one of the worlds finest concert pianists playing a bashed up old piano on a railway station, on this occasion the trains were stopped because of snow, so she had some time to wait, so perhaps she just thought she would have a practice before her concert in Paris or wherever, but im surprised she would even touch such a badly tuned and filthy piano as are in St Pancras. If I saw her there, I would certainly pop into Marks and get some flowers for her, after giving everyone a free concert.
No big deal to play so beautifully on such a superb piano. Anyone could do it. But will she be good also on a lousy Steinway or Boesendorfer? I wonder.
Valentina makes this very difficult piece look so easy. And from someone who has tried to learn it several times, giving up each time, trust me - it is one of the most difficult pieces in the modern repertoire, and she plays it as well as anyone, included Gilels.
Russians are highly giftet. Here you see again. And the same is true of Gorbatschov and Putin.Good luck the todays conflict falls in HIS hands.Just He is the man, coming with the best solution.
I mean it’s difficult but it’s doable as a late intermediate/early advanced player. Definitely not one of the most difficult works for piano. There’s some devilish pieces out there that you might not know, but there’s some much crazier stuff than this
Lisita ahhhh yes!!! !!! Handling the Rachmaninoff piano with such skill! No one would've thought st pancreas station passers by for a moment but yes!!! !!!
+Pitman Browne It takes a lot of guts to handle Rachmaninoff with such confidence. But Valentina continuously pulls it off. Don't know how, but she does.
She played my favorite piece!!! I tried to learn this piece like for about a year and still can't play it good 😂 Valentina Lisitsa is one of my favorite pianist ever!!!!
Lisitisa's "wrist work" in this Rachmaninoff piece was exceptionally rapid. I was previously only aware of her fast finger articulation, but here - her octaves were particularly loose and "speedy"!
