'Only knew the deco mesh wreath basics and was searching for how do the more elaborate embellishments on the Valentine's wreath I started. I'm on a "Wreath A Month" kick since I moved to a new home with a permanent wreath hook on the door! :) Thanks so much for sharing your ideas. BTW, as a former teacher, I rate your teaching skills an A+!!
+Mary Ann King Thanks so much for watching! And yes- once you get going on these wreaths, you want to have a different one on your door for every occasion. I'm so glad you found the tips I gave to be helpful and I do so appreciate the encouragement. I hope your new year is filled with all good things. Blessings- Kelly
Thank you for adding how we shouldn't compare our work to others. ♥ We're all different with different tastes, and that's ok! xo Love all your wreaths!
Earthgal- Thanks so much for the kind words. I always try to remind myself that I shouldn't be concerned with the quality of my work as compared to others. We're all just trying to do our best. I love looking to others for inspiration, don't get me wrong, but I'm happy just knowing I'm creating something that is beautiful to me. I'm so glad you stopped by. Blessings- Kelly
This is a beautiful idea for a Valentines Day wreath. I have been inspired by your idea, and I have been looking everywhere! I recently started making wreaths and love it. I was stumped on what to do next. Thank you for this tutorial! :)
Cat- Thank you so much! I’m so happy you found my channel. I have lots of videos for different wreath styles. I just love being able to create pretty wreaths myself. Now whenever the mood hits, I just go for it. Thanks for stopping by. Blessings- Kelly
I just got into deco mesh this past Thanksgiving nc I moved and had a hook on my front door. I love it videos they have helped me so much and look forward to it next video
+Frances Laboy Frances- Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm glad you're finding some helpful tips and ideas that are helping you create wonderful wreaths. I so appreciate you watching and hope I can provide other useful information for you. I hope you and your family have a wonderful new year. Blessings- Kelly
Michelle- Thanks so much for watching and for the kind words. My daughter is an amazing young woman, and God is so good. She started dating again a little over a year ago and we actually have a wedding that will happen in December. We live, we sometimes lose, and then we keep living and God makes all things new. Blessings! -Kelly
Thank you Kelly for sharing your beautiful work! I love the ruffle and pouf techniques together in your wreath. I will have to give it a try here in Arkansas
+Susan Montgomery Susan- Thank you for watching and taking time to write me a nice note. I just love how full this technique turns out.... I love fluffy! I'm sure yours will turn out beautifully as well. My mother and all of my grandparents are actually from Arkansas- my husband and I have talked about getting a cabin in the Ozarks for a weekend sometime. It's beautiful country. Blessings to you in the new year. -Kelly
Kelly, the Ozarks is a awesome place to get a cabin and relax and get away from the city. Be sure and take a camera for the waterfalls and cliff shots. Blessings to you as well.
I really loved it. I liked all the tips you gave us keep doing that please. I'm new to all this and really need all the help I can get. You are great at explaining thanks.
+Christina Johansson Christina- Thanks so much for watching and for the nice compliment! You can find more wreath samples at my website www.underatexassky.com if you're interested. Blessings to you! -Kelly
Soooo cute! This was a super helpful video. I haven't seen any videos with combined styles or methods. I am making a Valentine's wreath right now for a friends spa. I have all of my supplies but wasn't sure which style I wanted. But I knew I didn't want just the bubble or just the rolled method. Never tried the bows before but I'm going to try it now with the bubble method. I happen to have quite a bit of 21-inch pink left over from a pink and green wreath last spring. And my 10-inch pink is a different shade than my 21-inch pink. I'm excited to see how it comes out. Thank you so much!!!
Clutches- It sounds like your wreath is going to turn out to be so cute! I appreciate your kind words and am so glad you stopped in to share what you're creating. Blessings- Kelly
I like that you combined techniques and used a work wreath a lot. I heard you mention storage and wondered how you store your mesh. I use wine bottle holders which I find is really helpful but am always interested in how other people do it. Keep up the great work on the videos.
+Shiloh Friend Shiloh- Thanks for watching! Storage is always a challenge for sure! I love the wine rack storage idea. I actually use a closet cubby for my 10" deco mesh rolls .Then my craft table has shelves on each end and I use one side from my 10" poly burlap rolls. My husband made me a nifty holder for my 21" rolls. It's basically a flat piece of wood with little casters attached so it rolls with tall wood dowels attached. I just slide the bigger rolls on each rod. The cart just rolls under my craft table. I'm always on the lookout for storage solutions. Thanks again for watching. Blessings- Kelly
+Kelly Kimbrough Maybe one of your videos will show your storage? Its not the only thing I care about I swear. Just a huge challenge for me and it seems like my dinning room table has become my wreath station.
Shiloh Friend It's crazy the amount of room simple supplies consume! I am working on moving my website to a new host and and re-working the entire thing. I will definitely include a section on my new craft room and how I handle storage and organization of all my supplies. Thank you again for watching and for checking in with suggestions. I appreciate it so much. Blessings- Kelly
Thanks so much. I don't have a tutorial on the big burlap wreath. But I make it just like any 21" mesh pouf wreath. I just made my poufs about 12" I think. I hope this helps! Blessings- Kelly
Wow, what a fantastic wreath! I've watched this video a couple of times so I would know the measurements you use to do the poof technique and the ruffles. I'm going to try this method for an Easter wreath. I'm hoping our weather here in Texas is going to warm by then!!
Kim Kucera Kim- thanks so much!! I really love the combo of those techniques too- it makes for such a nice full look. I've used it on a couple of Easter wreaths too- you can see them in the gallery on my website www.underatexassky.com. And yes ma'am- I'm hoping spring will arrived here in Texas sooner than later! Have a wonderful day and thanks for taking the time to write. Good luck on your wreath!
Hi . New follower here also from Texas! ❤ Lovely wreath. I'm gonna start working on a heart shaped wreath and just learned from your video how to to accent a poof method with ruffles. I'm trying your method but using 2 ruffles per twist. Thank you for the inspiration. ❤
Thank you, Kelly! You are a great teacher!! Here is my finished Valentine's wreath. I followed your tutorial step by step. If I can do it... anyone can! (well, I just have to figure out how to attach a picture of it! Do you have another tutorial?)
Tammie Mclean Tammy you just made my day! Thank you for the lovely compliment. You can email me your pic if you'd like- because I'd LOVE to see it (kelly@underatexassky.com). I have a few tutorials on my RU-vid channel and I'm adding more all the time. My website www.underatexassky has loads of DIY projects including all of my wreath tutorials as well. I'm so happy you gave it a try- the possibilities are endless. :) Thank you again.
+FAB CHIC I'm so sorry for not replying to this comment! For some reason RU-vid thought it could be spam so I didn't see it. Thank you so much for the lovely compliment- I hope you did try this style wreath and that it turned out beautifully. Blessings! -Kelly
Sharon- Thanks so much. This is one of my favorite wreaths. It's just sweet and didn't need the overkill I usually add. I will cram a wreath with stuff sometimes, but other times being subtle is great too. Thanks for stopping by! Blessings- Kelly
April Tatum April- I'm preparing for a craft show Saturday and my dining room is full of boxes of wreaths too! As far as normal storage when I'm not on wreath overload I have lots of wreaths hanging around my craft room. I had the Mean Man install a peg board on the inside of the closet door and I was able to space three long pegs that work great for thinner wreaths like grapevine wreaths. I have peg board on another wall that also works to store my wreath forms and a few other wreaths as well. I also had an empty closet in my guest room and I used zip ties to tie the wreaths to hangers and I was able to hang 6 deco mesh wreaths on the rack in there. Even a double rack on rollers would be very useful as far as using hangers- depending on the length of the rack- you could maybe get as many as 12 on it. It really is difficult to store and transport them because of the size of the deco mesh wreaths! I hope that gives a couple of useful solutions.
I love both of your burlap wreaths in the background as well as the one your making in this video are there videos of how to make the burlap ones in the background?
Debbie- Thanks so much! I do have a video on making the burlap and grapevine wreath. Here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dWINyYWgRJ8.html. I made the other burlap wreath basically like a regular 21" deco mesh pouf style wreath but don't have a specific burlap pouf wreath tutorial. I hope this helps! Blessings- Kelly
+Maria Reyes Maria- Thanks so much for watching! I don't have a video on that burlap wreath per se- but I use the same technique on that as I do on the poly burlap video found here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-chufUUO0Evs.html I just use a little bit smaller pouf- approx 10" since the true burlap is so full. I hope this helps! Blessings- Kelly
Oh my goodness, just adore this wreath and tutorial. loving the pink -Just did find you channel, +1 sub/like, Thanks for sharing, love your craft space! ~Kimberley =)
Thank you so much, I watched your other tutorials also, your a very good teacher so it made it easy for me to understand. What I would like to know is how much do you or people charge for these wreaths as there is a lot of ribbon in them and ribbon and ornaments are expensive.........Thank you for inspiring me.
+Summy Lynn Summy- Thank you so much for watching and for the kind words! I'm glad you're finding the information helpful. As far as how much wreaths like this sell for... I have seen them range in price from $50-$200 - I have generally sold mine from $60-$75. Now at that lower price point there is very little profit so it's definitely something I do mostly because I enjoy it. I hope you'll give it a try because it really is so satisfying to make something beautiful. Blessings to you- Kelly
Kelly, Beautiful wreath. I refer back to your videos when I'm uncertain about the technique. When you place your ruffles in the wreath, do you place them parallel to the work wreath frame or perpendicular to the work wreath frame? Thanks.
Alistair- It's so lovely to hear from you. I'm happy to hear my tutorials are being of use to you! I attach my ruffles mostly perpendicular to the wreath form. They may be a little diagonal if that makes sense. I don't worry too much about the placement so long as it's mostly perpendicular. I hope this helps! Blessings- Kelly
Hi Kelly, Each time you go into a twist, are you undoing the twist, adding the mesh in or ribbon, and then twisting it once to close....or are you creating a new twist each time you add something in (twist once, add a ribbon, twist closed, come around again to that spot and want to add something so put it in, twist again?
+Stacey LaFave Stacey- I generally untwist every time I add a new element. I've just found that if I'm adding a few things in a twist, if I don't open it up, it looks like things are "stacked" in there (I hope that makes sense). Plus this maximizes the space in the twist itself. Now, the exception to the rule is if the base mesh is really fluffy and the element that I add in would get lost in the mesh. In that case I do ahead and stack on top of the closed twist since the fluffier mesh will cover that part of the twist. Thank you so much for watching- I hope this helps. Blessings- Kelly
Elizabeth Garcia Hi Elizabeth! Boy, attaching stuff to a fluffy mesh wreath is always a challenge to me. In this particular instance, the "Be Mine" had a hanging ribbon attached to it. I was able to pull that ribbon towards the wreath frame and attach it with two zip ties- on on each side of the wreath form. This caused the top to be pulled back further than the bottom- so I just moved the mesh around until I could position the bottom of the plaque back some to line up evenly. Sometimes in that case, I'll add a bit of hot glue to secure the bottom half to the mesh to keep it all even. Sometimes I'll use floral wire stems also- they're long enough that you can have your element further away from the form and still be secure. You may have to give it a couple of tries to get it right. Thanks so much for watching!
So cute, I have never made a wreath but you explain it so well I think I can make one!! When you are adding the next layer and you say to open up the ties, are you totally u twisting them? Or are you laying the next layer on the previous or original twist?? Thanks!
Cristiana Myers Cristiana- I'm so glad you watched and want to give it a try! When I say "open" the twists, I actually untwist them to the last layer I had added- then add the ribbon or whatever and twist it back together. Essentially I only will have one twist on the ties- everything will be under that twist. It's helpful if you're adding a lot of elements- otherwise, if you just add on top of existing twists, you could run out of space in the ties to add more. I will say that you need to "eyeball" the process also- sometime your mesh can be really fluffy and your elements can get lost in the mesh if you don't have the layer of the twist below it... I hope I'm making sense... haha. I just mean that if you aren't stacking a lot of things within the twists- you can add elements without opening them up so the ribbons or whatever don't kind of get sucked down into the mesh and disappear. Thank you so much for watching. I'm hoping to add some more videos soon- we're building a new house and so I've lost my craft room for a few weeks - but I shall return! :) - Blessings, Kelly
Kelly, love your expert directions and am making a wreath from your video now:) Do you just poke the picks into the wreath so the end doesn't show or glue or wrap around the back?
Barbara- I actually use a wreath form that has a complementary color of twists already attached so I can just incorporate them into the wreath itself. This saves me from having to try to hide them. On this Valentine wreath, the twists are pink. They just sort of blend right in. Thanks so much for watching! Blessings- Kelly
Barbara- I'm so sorry I misunderstood! I do use zip ties to affix the picks with various size zip ties by wrapping the tires aatound the pic and wreath form. Sometimes I also use floral wire. I wrap the pick around the wreath form if possible then secure with the ties. Again, I apologize I misunderstood the question.
Beautiful! I love the ruffles along with puffs, makes it so much fuller. Any particular reason you used the fluffy ties rather than the skinny ones. Always try to use the same color ties as the deco mesh?
Barbara- Thanks so much! I really like the fluffy ties that come on the work wreath. I always use a color that compliments the colors that I'm using so I can just incorporate the twists into the overall look of the wreath and don't have to try to hide them. I'm so glad you stopped by! Blessings- Kelly
Why did you not put your pink twist ties on the bottom so they would not br sern? I think I would have. Really like the pink and red together. I just found you, Kelly, and like the way you instruct.
Jeannie - I’m so glad you’re enjoying mt tutorials. I purchase my wreath forms with the ties already attached. I try to choose the color wreath form that will match the design of my wreath so I can just incorporate them into the design. Thanks for stopping by! Blessings- Kelly
Iveth- Thanks so much! I usually attach signs with floral wire. If there's not a hanger to thread the wire through, I drill small holes on each side to be able to slide the wire through and wrap around the wreath form. I also sometimes use zip ties. Just be careful when you tighten them so you don't pull your sign too far into the fluff of the wreath. I hope this help! Blessings- Kelly
Thanks so much! Answering your question for others- wreaths already have the ties attached and they come in lots of colors. I simply incorporate the ties into the wreath. -Kelly
Is there a specific name for the fuzzy ties? I used red pipe cleaners, but like the look of the fuzzy ones. Really enjoyed the tutorial, and felt good when granddaughters told me , my version was pretty.thank you
Lori- Thanks so much for watching! I'm glad your wreath turned out beautifully! I actually buy and use a Work Wreath that already has the twists attached. I don't attach them myself. I purchase my wreath forms from craftoutlet.com. Blessings! -Kelly
Isabel- Yes ma'am. I purchase my mesh from there. They have a pretty good selection of the premium and deluxe mesh as well as the poly burlap mesh that I like to use.
I am trying this for the first time. My question is how many pipe cleaners do you put in each section and on each row? I purchased the frame without the pipe cleaners and I can't tell by your video how many to use and how far apart to space them. Thanks.
LeeAnn- I purchase my wreath forms with the twists already attached. I honestly have no idea how many pipe cleaners it would take. The wreath form I use has 10 twists on the outer sing and 8 on the inner. I hope that helps. Blessings!
Thanks. Since I am making these for re-sell, I'm trying to find the cheapest wreath forms. But I may need to buy a couple with the twists attached to get started with.
+zdragonfly1974 Thank you for watching! I order my mesh from craftoutlet.com - their selection is great. I also get my wreath forms there. Their prices are pretty good and they ship orders over $69 ship free and fast. They have a great selection of ribbon also. Blessings to you- Kelly
Francine- I actually do not sell my wreaths any longer. I just found that I'd have to charge so much because of shipping costs and the time it takes to keep up with orders was just not workable for me. So I just try to share the process so others can make their own. As far as this wreath, I actually used a zip tie I believe to attach it. There was a string hanger attached to the "Be Mine" when I bought it and I just slipped the zip tie through the string and attached it to the frame. Floral wire is also a great tool because it's so flexible. I hope this helps! I'm so glad you stopped by! Blessings - Kelly
I have finished my wreath with your inspiration and wonderful instructions:) Would love to show you a picture. Not sure how this way but can email you:)
Tina Rosso I believe you're asking about the "twists" that I use to attach the mesh to the wreath form. I actually purchase the forms with those already attached. For the really awesome wreath forms with the fluffy twists, you'll have to order them. I use craftoutlet.com (I don't get any compensation for mentioning them, but they carry a great, well organized selection). They come in all colors and actually the "pencil" wreath form has skinny twists. Michaels and Hobby Lobby carry a dark green pencil work wreath that you can purchase in store. Their quality is fine- but there's no variety in the color/thickness of the twists. I hope that answers your question. Thanks so much for watching.
How did you connect the Be mine in the middle? Watched the whole video to see you do the embellishments and you did not show us how you attached all of them.
Joyce- I apologize that I didn't include that piece of information! The "Be Mine" had a string attached to it. I just lifted it up and put a zip tie through the string an attached it to the top of the frame. I kept it a little loose so I could be sure to pull it to the front of the mesh. I add a little bit of glue to the underside to the sides and stick it to the mesh for extra hold. Thanks for watching! Blessings- Kelly
+Dana Stewart Dana- Thanks so much for watching and yes, the Bowdabra actually works. I use it for all my bows. It takes a little practice (and quite frankly, I think sometimes my bows need a little help) but it's much easier for me than trying to hand tie them. Now that the holidays are done and the kids have left, I'll try to do a little tutorial with it so you can see how easy it is. Plus the bow maker is really inexpensive as well. I hope you have a happy new year! Blessings- Kelly
Thanks so much for your response. I can't make a bow for the life of me. As many times as I tried and failed, I still try. Lol. I would love to learn because they make a wreath stand out sometimes. I'll look for your video soon. Happy and blessed new year!
Mimi- If you subscribe to my channel, you're notified when I post a new video. I have lots more videos to watch if you'll check out ru-vid.com you can find them all. Thanks so much for stopping by! Blessings - Kelly
gert249 Gert- I just grabbed the window pane mesh I used here at Hobby Lobby, but craftoutlet.com is where I order about 90% of my mesh. Their prices are so good and they ship so quickly- I love them!
