Valeria Luiselli is the recipient of the 2020 Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Literature. Valeria is the author of the award-winning novels Faces in the Crowd and The Story of My Teeth, and the essay collections Sidewalks and Tell Me How It Ends: An Essay in Forty Questions. Her 2019 novel Lost Children Archive was longlisted for the Booker Prize and the Women’s Prize for Fiction, and was shortlisted for the Simpson Literary Prize. Valeria is a finalist for the Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Literature and the recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship. Valeria was born in Mexico City and grew up in South Korea, South Africa, and India.
The Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise are awarded to young immigrant scientists and artists in the United States whose early career work represents a profound advance in their respective fields. Each Creative Promise Prizewinner receives a cash prize of $50,000.
