Oh yeah you are right! So you would probably want to go with the original doors and build that smaller black marble brick to fill in the gap. Or build a forge. I will pin this comment! Nice catch!
Instead of bringing huge amounts of marble, i think maybe i will just dig a big ditch and raise some ground (the ditch will help avoid the blobs jumping over). Build a small base in it.
One additional thing I would suggest is to quickly set up not one, but *two portals.* If sh!t happens and your one-and-only portal gets broken, it's way easier to have done that than building another ship and sailing back. Obviously, you don't want to put it too close to (nor too far from) your other portal. Backing it up against a rock or wall might make it less vulnerable. Obviously you'll have to name one of them when you get a chance.
Totally agree! Just slap it up against a rock or something and then run away to start a base. That way enemies don't swarm around the first one maybe. The last thing you want to do is have to regather duplicates of all your gear and resail back lol.
I use old dverg building - only rise the ground to cover holes in walls. Lava blob can destroy that but its only temporary base, for portal, dont stay there too long.
Possibly! I didn't include anything like that as the idea was to try and get something up quickly. That might take a bit of time when you first land there. But definitely worth trying out!
Yeah my real life job has been keeping me busy. And I didn't want to stream just to stream. Wanted to make sure I have something fun to watch. Maybe I can stream Ashlands this weekend and do some "first beach landings" or something. I'm hoping for some new patch notes tomorrow. :)
I tested the balistas and I wasn't impressed with them. They might do well against the Ashsvik and Lava Blobs? But they were weak against skeletons due to the pierce. We even tested the new flamissles and the couldn't hold back a melee skeleton. =(
great videos! Quick question. How do you get the clear skies like that in the Ashlands? it always seems to be red and kinda dark for me, is that just my bad luck?
I cheat. I sometimes use devcommands to clear the environment of effects when I record videos. It's usually to get rid of the rainy weather or show a better shot of how things look. Ashlands will not look that nice when you get there lol.
@@Maxxramus24 it certainly doesn't. But thanks for the tip, been using the dev commands since the activation code was "I am a cheater" but the weather never bothered me,never even considered I could turn it off!
how are you getting it so clear there.. I keep seeing these builds and there seems to never be ENV affects..... Mistlands has mist and Ashlands has the constant fiery sky / smoke. Are you using a mod and if so which one .... I would realy like to be able to see when I am building stuff........ these builds almost look like they are done in the Meadows biomes
I used devcommands to clear the environment while recording these videos during the public test branch. The idea was to be able to see everything clearly for the sake of the video, rather than some huge storm come crashing in while I'm trying to record the information lol.
@@Maxxramus24 ty .. saw that further down the comments.. guess it was a common question.... my apologies for being the next in line for the same question
Unfortunately, I tested the ground and the lava blobs do blow up ground too. I had to cover all the pot holes in my testing area after I tested those walls lol. You could try it though!
Tricky, but effective if you could get it to work. We tested the red ocean water in that video I posted on Sunday and you have 5 seconds in that water before you start to burn up. I suppose the real question is, do the Ashland monsters take damage while they are in it? The voltures are immune to it.
I used dev commands in this video and used clear environment. I used it a few times when show casing a few things, so that I didn't have to mess with storms and stuff.
doesnt raising the ground work for walls? indestructible for everything else...would be my choice for walls anyway...roof would be marble needed though.

dont know why i am watching, i killed the boss 2x solo, found 4 forts in the first place i went and the boss arena was really close, i didnt even knew that you have to use the bombs to reach the flametal, first return home i went fully loaded with ore because the pillers were not in the lava, ii tamed 7 asksvins 3 were 2 stars, ngl that ruined the game a bit, crazy that in 20 hours found and killed the boss using a mostly the bow and asksvins army., the only hard bit is the amount of enemy in ashlands
Great video. I appreciate the testing you did to find out some of the optimal build spots. I rushed into the ashlands with my best gear, landed on a beach with 2 spawners, and then died. Been an uphill battle ever since, beach landing has to be the worst part!
why not find a whole and build a base inside this is a way to difficult to maintain. Taking a fortress over and making a base inside is also a better option.
For portals, I have one main portal that connects to all of my others portal that I increment by number. I picked this up from someone, I forget who. It can cause issues as your getting used to it, but it makes your base so much cleaner! Great video!
