2300 hours in valheim and i didn't know about this. Amazing! I wish every guide on the internet was as clear, thorough and concise as this one. This made my brain happy.
Fun fact with the "Xray" effect : you can make one-way "glass" with it. Since no other effects will be rendered if you look through a x-ray disc/square/whatever-shape-you-want (including other signs contents), putting a white+black pair close together renders fully black on the black side, but transparent (well, "xray") on the white side. (Just in case, the pair used : ● // ● )
You don't actually need the "color=" part, you can just do for white (or whatever hex code you want) and it works too. It even allows shortform code, in which white is
Glowing is not a feature. The colored signs used to glow but they changed this in a patch last year. Some colors are easier to see at night, but you still need to use light sources to see them from a distance.
This... Is actually nuts!! What the heck?!?! Soooo many ways you can alter signs that I had no idea about. It's kind of crazy how much you can do in Vanilla Valheim that the game doesn't inform you about
That’s cool! I’ll have to try that and see what it looks like! I’m thinking about making like a wizard tower and putting big round (as round as you can make in Valheim) windows with this effect on them, different colors on different windows. Like maybe a fire/water/air/earth kind of thing at the top of the tower or something. 🤔
for hex codes, if they're repeating digits, you can shorten to 3 characters, for example #FF00FF can be #F0F instead so you can use more characters on the sign
This is great. I wanna troll my friends with this. Any idea what the color code for the wood is in the game? Change the color code to the same as wood on sign and get them to wonder why the text isn't showing up clearly. ;)
I knew it all but the offset and rotation, it’s already helped my large signs look better not being able to see the actual sign part of it. I can’t seem to get the xray effect to work, maybe cause console emojis are limited? Either way great video
If the X-ray effect isn’t working, check your graphics settings and make sure that screen space ambient occlusion (SSAO) is turned on; we play on PC so I’m not sure if it’s different, but that seems to fix it for a number of people. Also you can use as another option for emojis; change the number for different emojis. Hopefully this helps, but like I said we play on PC so I’m not entirely sure what all is different. Either way, thank you for watching! 😀
@@Sailor-X-Topher I found a great way to use the xray effect, put it as a barrier in frost caves and dungeons and it looks amazing transitioning room to room
This is really cool, especially the X-ray effect. As both sides of this disc are different but seem to always face the same direction even if the sign is turned arount I'm wondering if there is a way to turn arount the disc. Maybe you can input the rotation arount the z-axis or something? Does anyone know?
You can have a lot of fun with that transparent solid shape. Fill the inside of a portal distorting your view through it. Use it as a sort of looking glass in the Mistlands, you can see through fog, mist, water while looking through it
Guys, does the big white offset symbol eliminate things like mistlands mist? Because then you could place these in a mistlands area to let you "see" into the danger.
Hey there. I don't recall exactly what size/offset I used for the video, but it's just a color, size, voffset tag and any shape you like. For example, ● should work. You may just need to adjust the offset and size to get what you are looking for, but you could also play around with other colors and shapes. Thanks for watching!
@@DanielWhite-ob2yq Check out the section at 02:33 in the video; pressing the windows key + the period key brings up a keyboard for special characters/shapes/emojis/etc. The dot in the comment above is just a circle shape. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Great info! However, when I try to use voffset, it is acting strangely. Looks like it tries to "wrap/linebreak" my text based on a certain width, probably the size of the sign itself? Therefore larger text/font size wrap sooner. And when it does, it pushes the 1st part of the text up, and 2nd part down from where I expect the text should be based on the voffset. And it also seem like how far they get pushed up/down also based on the voffset value. Anyone else get this?
Yeah the text size is limited to the sign width (except for in the case of single characters). Sometimes in combination with voffset you can get some weird wrapping. We tried to nail down the best of what we could with the current state of signs, but it can be really temperamental at times. 😃
@@nougan_gamer exactly. For the signs on the front of that building in the thumbnail, and for the “subscribe” billboard at the end of the video, there is one sign per letter 😀 Once you have unlimited coal without needing a charcoal kiln, signs are super cheap to make!
@@Sailor-X-Topher Got it, guess devils in the details since there're additional work involved to hide the multiple signs per letter for each word we see, and voffset/pos them individually! Thank you so much for the help & patience to explain to me. As a fellow small YT channel (yeah, mine is waaay smaller), I truly think you guys deserves more subs, here's one from me. 👍
@@nougan_gamer Thank you 🙏🏻 so much! Glad to help anytime we can; there is so much to learn about Valheim we are always still learning new stuff constantly.
With the amount of code these signs will accept, I feel like there have to be some undiscovered exploits that could be used to wreak havoc on Valheim servers.
There is a 50 character limit per sign, and the code is strictly limited to Unity rich text tags, so there really isn’t anything you could do to wreak havoc. You can make some really cool stuff, though! 😃
When i use this >> "⚫" whether circle to square, it comes out looking like netting instead of solid, am i doing something wrong or is it a gfx setting perhaps or?
We have never spent much time trying to change the font, so I’m really not sure. I know Unity rich text supports multiple fonts, but the question is how Valheim is packaging/accessing those font libraries. I imagine Valheim has only a few fonts packaged into the game files, so you likely have to figure out where the fonts folder is and upload your own fonts, then figure out how Valheim is using them. It’s totally possible that you would need to use or write a mod for additional fonts to be usable, but if you do mess around and figure it out please let us know!
Go into your graphical settings and make sure that screen space ambient occlusion is turned on (SSAO). An update makes it so that this does not work unless SSAO is on. Let us know if this fixed it for you!
