I must not fear. Fear is the mind killer. In all seriousness, great combat tips! I would add that the atgeir is a fantastic weapon against large groups for creating breathing space to then pick off individual enemies with the middle mouse spin.
It is an amazing weapon, indeed, but slows you down and takes a lot of time to master. I used it as my main safety weapon in my melee only, naked permadeath run and it worked wonders, but I never dared to go in against larger groups because of the slow down. If you are wearing silver clothes and carry the atgeir, that's a lot of hold back on your mobility so I don't know, for a beginner, I'd still not recommend it. But I see your point, absolutely, could have been mentioned a bit indeed.
I like the variety in combat this game offeres. Early on i really like the knives when you can sneak on an enemy and heavy crit them. Later when you are forced in open battles i prefere pikes or large hammers. Perfect blocking and rolling with the sword and the maze is also great.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
Oh I’m curious - what armor setup are you using with the knife here? I was using the troll set until the mountains, but now I’m not sure what would be best for the plains. It’s my first playthrough so all the armor combos are a bit overwhelming 😅
@@shy_bc In this video I'm using a fully upgraded Fenris armor set which is a lot of dangerous work to get enough materials for (takes a lot of time to clear many many frost caves) and only provides a maximum of 50 armor so for a beginner, I'd not really recommend using it at first. Even tho the Fenris set gives you additional movement speed so it is easier to manuever with it and also fire resistance against fuling shamans, it's low armor value can scare people away from trying to melee enemies while wearing it. For a beginner I'd say, a fully upgraded silver set with its 82 armor with the cape is amazing for the plains, but be careful with the shamans since you won't have fire resistance potions during your first visit in the new biome. The silver set slows you down but with high enough level on your running skill, you should be able to more or less equalize the effect to reach an okayish speed. If it's your first playthrough, my advice is to make the silver bow (Draugrfang) and from a comfortable distance slowly chip away the fulings around the camp, or, if you want to try the method I showed in the video, try to snipe the shamans first. Also, don't forget to set up a safe portal inside of or underneath a giant rock nearby so you can pick your stuff up if anything goes wrong, in a first playthrough there is a higher chance of that to happen.
@@fairy2play179 thanks so much for the detailed response! I was thinking about making the Fenris armor for the movement bonus (the movement penalty from the silver set is a real bummer), but our main mountain only had two caves, and the other two mountains we searched looking for Modor had zero, so I probably only have enough material to make one piece. I’ll definitely take your advice and just stick with what I have for now since it’s fully upgraded! I’ve been loving the knife gameplay tho, so I’m definitely going to stick with it and see if I can continue to improve my skills in the plains!
@@shy_bc Fenris armor is fantastic for the speed buff, but if also keep the root harnesk (swamp chest piece from abominations) on you you can swap between them for pierce resist against deathsquitoes and javelin fulings or fire resist from the full fenris set against torch fulings and shamans. Snipe shamans if you can though since it's best to not try swapping in the middle of combat and the fireballs hurt the most with the fire weakness from harnesk, while you can tank a few javelins in fenris. If you pop bonemass just swap to full fenris since the pierce resists do not stack (though pierce resist from serpent scale shield DOES stack with either one, confusingly).
The nice thing about Valheim is, that Combat can be done in very different variations. I still prefer to take out the Fulings with a Bow Sneak Attack from a dsitance, while i'm trying to spot the Shaman's in first place. Because and even with fully Level 4 upgraded Padded Armor, their Fireballs can do a Ton of Damage to you. As soon as as the Camp is more and more thinned out, i'm luring the Berserkers with my Bow and one at a time away from the Camp, to show him my shiny Black Metal Sword and Shield, by trying to get Parry Attacks on him, because i do like the Swords in the Game. But there is one important Fact in your Video which i never paid attention before, the Fenris Armor. And according to the Wiki, and if i'm not mistaken a Full Set provides resistance vs. Fire. So i guess i will do now some Backtracking, wiping off the Dust from my Frostner and Silver Sword, and visiting the Frost Caves which i never did before, to try to achieve a fully upgraded Fenris Set. Thank you very much, your Video was very helpful indeed. ♥
I did sequence break crossbow with lv3 root armor, lv3 atgeir and lv2 iron sledge. Cleared whole vilage with arbalest only. The village had 3 berserkers, one of them was 1-starred.
That was on accident. I never use shields and or do any parries (or at least not on purpose). There is no particular reason for it, I just never do that in games, I don't like shields however stupid this sounds.
I was running like an idiot Yesterday trying to find my 50 ourhs Camp . Had to die and loose every thing. If i sail to another Island with that map and sleep in a new bed how is i ever going to find Home.dont Think i understand.
Are you playing on console? I'm playing on PC, maybe that's the free camera movement that you are seeing, otherwise I don't know. And thank you for the compliment, I'm glad you found it useful. :)
Your knife is staggering on first hit and you're only taking like 10% damage from a berserker.... Feels a bit deceptive honestly. Apparently the real secret to combat in your video is "turn the difficulty all the way down" 😂
It's on normal difficulty with a level 50 knife skill. Yes, the knife is this strong if you know how to use it. Also, I am taking that little damage because of the Bonemass buff since based on your base armor it increases the amount of absorbed damage. I have 50 armor in this video which alongside the bonemass buff reduce the damage tremendously. :) Also, I'm in a private game, not on a server or anything.
@@fairy2play179 Yeaaaaah I just tested that and you are very much lying. Same armor, weapon, upgrade level, difficulty, knife skill, and buff. No first hit staggers and 50ish damage from berserker hits.
