What I like most about this video (and why I subbed) is that I actually feel like I'll remember everything for once. A lot of build videos are great, but they sort of overwhelm me with an entire mansion or castle. This can be a nice cozy addition to anyone's build as long as it fits. I've been playing Valheim for the first time 3 days ago because of these building movies, I made 2 little homes with very clear improvement each. Now working on the 3rd one and it's the most complex build yet, using this fireplace as a base and a spacious basement for storing food and distill mead. I do sometimes see the fire go off on its own for a few seconds and then go on again, not sure what's happening here. Anyhow it seems to work like a charm otherwise! I'm implementing this in all my future homes now, and when I do it'll remind me of Chiselchip!

Glad you like the designs :) as for the fire going out, it may be because of lag, but also if you have more than just the hearth fire in there using the same chimney the smoke could be too much in which case it will switch on and off

I seem to remember Valheim from a couple years ago requiring a 2x2 hole for smoke to escape. This is the size of the large floor piece. Anything smaller and the smoke would be trapped. I thought that was dumb then. I even killed myself once making a tiny hut with a small opening in the roof and a campfire inside, then clicked to sleep before I noticed I was taking smoke damage. How small was my opening? It was a 2x2 hole in the roof with 1m vertical beams supporting a roof piece. That left 4 openings that were all 1x2 for the smoke to exit and it didn't. Your chimney has 1 such opening and it works. It looks like the game changed for the better.
@Chiselchip

Yah they updated that! Just make sure you don’t put any beams or trim around that 1 m x 1 m hole or it won’t

I dream of valheim devs one day finally making fires work properly. Because it's absolutely ridiculous when a hearth in a chimney goes out because 10 meters directly above it it is not covered by a roof. Or in a giant "tent" where you have a fire in the middle and leave the top of it open for the smoke to escape (actual way it is built irl), because, again, 10 meters above it, the fire doesn't have a fckin roof. I seriously doubt that it's hard to make this work
@phinqs
@phinqs Год назад
Great video. It is a similar chimney design to what I typically use myself. Although, I normally place an angled roof over the top like most people. I didn't know that the hearth would remain lit if it was only exposed to small amounts of open sky above - so thanks for that bit of knowledge.

this looks really good, but it'd look even better if you added a chimney cap instead of the roof inside the chimney... chimney caps are VERY important in real life, and they have been used since the inception of indoor fireplaces. they were very prominent in viking culture as well, so for me, designing a chimney without a cap just looks odd and incomplete

This is like the dual story chimney ibdid in my first server uears ago then? Two fires on different story in one chimney, above the fire hidden slanted roofs pushed the smoke into a single exit flute. Neither fire went out in the rain and the smoke from the first floor was not visable in the second. I miss that castle. I built it in the medows section of a medow/plains island. The biome border was fully walled off with massive walls. The keep was amazing with the morning light putting god rays perfectly on the throne. The walls were bit amd tough and capped at corners with signal lights. The main gates into the plains were huge and featured proper crenalations, machinations, and murder holes. The dock on the side of the keep had perfect boat fitting slots for 2 long and 2 karve. The main paortal3was build in a structure built in a stone circle and the area around it was heavily reforested. Ultimately it was lost when the entire group stopped playing forba while and the host site for some reason decided to reset the map. Everyone was pissed and i have not made such a big build since. It devastated me for building on mp servers.

@Chiselchip hi I really love this build been using it on quite a few builds but wondering if there is a way to build it stacked ? Like on a real life castle the have fireplaces on different floors. They are all connected to one large fire place on the ground usually the buildings kitchen. I've been trying to think of a way to do something similar but thought u might have a better idea of how to go about it.. anyways yeah I would love to see if u could help with this as I really love this build and have grand plans but not the best builder so I've learned lol..
@Chiselchip
@Chiselchip Год назад
Glad you enjoyed it! Great question! For me, I like to do stacked fireplaces as long as the chimney height between each fireplace is high enough to where the smoke will not smoke the room or put out the fire. You could make a really fat chimney, and just have each fireplace, staggered slightly back from the other, but I mostly like to have them directly on top of each other, and in reality only the top level fireplace is the one ventilating smoke out of the chimney, the other fireplaces just have the smoke being trapped at the top of the chimney as long as your chimney is high enough before the next fireplace goes on top of it
