Yesterday I realized that there is iron other places in the swamp other than just the crips. I don't know if I'm the only person that doesn't know this but I was walking around with my wishbone and found iron deposits well muddy scrap pile below the surface in the swamp
Pro tip : don't waste time with scrap piles. Just go to the crypts and mine only the strictly necessary bits so that you can reach the chests. Some chest rooms can have up to a stack of scrap iron. During my first run I tried to mine every bit of it and wasted way too much time. Your main source of iron is the chests ;)
@@al8-.W yep, found the same thing out myself. Just as likely to get withered bones, leather, or nothing as iron scraps from those piles. Only need to knock out ones leading to new rooms, and only enough to get through. Those piles can cheese mob pathing, especially on blobs, so nice to keep some fragments standing. Only exception I can think of is if the swamp you're in sucks for crypts and better ones are too far away without having to set up a new forge and wagon trails. Then that little bit extra matter, despite the time wasted.
you can put the eggs directly on the altar no need to store them away down the mountain. you could also make a portal nearby to go back to your base and repair the bow. Also, frost resistance mead does not stack with the wolf cape or lox cap.
Yeah, not sure what the point in hauling them all the way down the mountain was. It's not like he can carry all three at the same time when it's time to summon the boss. Either leave them where you found them or, like you said, put them on or near the altar.
After beating Moder without looking at guides, I came to youtube to see how others take this boss down. Honestly I had more fun not cheesing it. Built several stone towers around the altar to hide from its attacks if needed. Even though she destroyed most of it, it did save me a few times! Upgraded silver armor as much as I could, at first used dragur bow and obsidian arrows until the bow broke, then used the bonemass buff and crystal axe to do more damage in melee. Then when my health got low switched to sword and shield until I could use potion again. Rinse and repeat. That feeling when I beat Moder with the last swing of my axe, barely alive, equipment broken, towers laid to waste in the distance, it was such a epic feeling that I would not get by cheesing it. This is why I try not to look at guides before a boss fight to avoid the temptation of making it easier.
Digging a trench still works. She indeed destroys wood and some rocks too but the trench still protects one. And her AI is not really effective in this situation.
The biggest challenge with this boss is the packs of wolves and drakes that join in once night falls. Maybe setting up a log wall around the combat area could at least keep some of the mobs out.
I dug out a deep trench around the area during the day . . . even at night the wolves won't be able to get to you. You can also use the trench to shield you from her attacks and pick her off with arrows
My biggest issue is the drakes combined with moder flying ice attack. Like bewteen 3 drakes and moder I can’t dodge them all. And even though I can tank a drake hit then it slows you into moder attack
You can also find the vegvisirs for Moder in Frost Caves. Went through two huge mountains and none of the ruins had the vegvisir but found several caves which all had one.
Personally I beat it Dark Souls style, went with a spear and shield and charged at it on the ground. It's actually much faster than just with bows, and also it's tons of fun (and challenging!).
This does not seem to work as well recently, I think they increased Moder's damage versus materials, she chewed through my platforms and the stone around them like paper, destroying pretty much everything inside in just a couple attacks when I fought her today. Definitely didn't happen last time I did the fight a few months ago and this tactic worked like a charm. Just a warning to anyone doing this fight in 2022
Yeah, I just fought her a couple hours ago. My core wood reinforced platforms didn't last 5 minutes. She was able to attack down into the trench. I was unable to place a workbench anywhere in the pit. Once I killed the wolf that got down there I was able to take on the Drakes. I had a spot down there that Moder couldn't hit me but I could hit her and the Drakes. My Draugr Fang lasted the whole fight so I didn't need my backup bow. It took just over 200 fire arrows to take her out. I'll have to do it again when my crew gets off work and the eggs respawn. Dragon eggs will respawn after 480 minutes. (8hours)
That is a HUGE base... Since I started playing I wanted to just figure it out on my own, but little by little I've been watching vids like this for certain details. I came here to see the boss fight which is not what I expected :) You definitely took your time farming, I feel like I have zounds of materials I don't need and barely any of the ones I do. So much honey.... But I guess the game sets it up like that; gotta just spend a few days farming something until you've got 10 chests full of it. Thanks for vid. Note I have not fought Moder yet but the eggs can be taken up to the altar one at a time and won't disappear. Allowing you to work up to the summoning.
The tactic he used for protecting himself from Moder's attacks is rather similar to how I did when I fought the Elder. I hid underneath the altar every now and then to regen health and stamina.
I was able to completely smash the first three bosses blind but this one completely wrecked me. drained the durability of both my bows and even smashed my portal so I couldnt get back easily

My first fight with Moder was easier than it was supposed to. Moder glitched out and just got stuck between some trees, so i just keep hitting her with arrows while she just stood there.
After struggling HEAVILY on my first attempt, this method of digging the trench worked SO MUCH better. Even playing in 2022 my wood floor never broke. I ended up using full level 1 wolf armor and about 150 needle arrows with a level 3 draugr fang (didn't break without repair). I just dodged her flying attack in the trench and came out to shoot her when she landed, It took about 1 full day and night solo.
She has riduciously high HP, it takes half an hour to beat her with the best available gear. Her AI is a little broken when player hides in a trench, spends most of its time among some unreachable nearby peaks. The real danger in this bossfight is nightfall and losing Rested state, a pack of wolves are more dangerous than her.
I tried soloing him after H&H patch and it seems that his health now regenerates everytime I go underground into the hole I built. Anyone else encountered this?
I got lucky and found her spawn during random exploration. I preped an entire, reinforced base to fight her. It did nothing. She just shot her ice shards into the center of the base where I became trapped. Still managed to solo her without dying tho
I see that your slum food is similar to mine, cooked deer meat, honey, snausages. If I ever get around to pig/wolf farming I'll probably use a honey and both jerkies.
Let me make this fight even easier: 1) Dig a simple, narrow trench just slightly deeper than your toon is tall, all the way around the spawn pad. 2) Spawn Moder 3) Jump down in your trench and build a bunch of campfires (8-10) all in one area(ish) and stand next to them to draw him over them. 4) Let him burn himself to death as he tires to stomp out the fires. 4) Repair campfires or lay more as needed. 5) Shoot at him every so often (if you even need too) from the complete safety of your trench. 6) Let him burn to death 7) ... 8) Profit EDIT: Sometimes I even lay a spawn bed down in the trench with a portal. Easy win. Hell, you don't even need armor for this fight.
I took out goblin camp to see if I can roam the mountain yes I can. Im just looking for Moder marker or altar. Everything else is max or just need mine few more veins and I’m solid for black metal gear. Do have to go back to the swamp to get more iron. After the mountain and dealing with the goblin camp I got this.
Good luck finding modor I've searched 6 - 7 mountain ranges and not one had location to show where the boss. Ive been searching for days and haven't found the boss.
I feel your pain. Five mountain biomes, no location rune. Elder and Bonemass were super quick to find by comparison. The devs probably intentionally made Moder more difficult to find so that you are forced to explore more of the map.
Everyone pronounces her name as MoHder, while I think it should be more close to Mother. Anyway she is the mother of all dragons who sheds tears when a Viking kills her children (the eggs you sacrifice)
Ok, great guide...BUT, why didn’t you mention that not only a forge would be needed but also the anvil for level 2 repairs to just about all my load out? Now I have to sail all the way home for 2 bronze, sucks.
Why do your food items have a much higher stat than mine do? My serpent stew only gives 26 stamina. My turnip stew only gives 18 health. Are you using a mod?
update this guide since then monster updates make this fight harder,i had to fight 3 drakes and her,after i killed the drakes a golum turned up,have you fought moder and a golum?update you guide its out of date.
I find it so dissatisfying that most bosses can be "debugged" to death, sometimes even with no intent to do so. Bonemass was the least buggy so far in my run but man did I rape the elder and eiktyr. The most obvious flow that I found so far is most bosses utterly ignoring the player when the player is on lower ground than the boss. When I fought the elder, its spawn point was on a small cliff and as I walked down the cliff to have more moving space, the elder stopped attacking except for the occasional branches spawning. Of course those branches are pointless if you don't need to dodge other attacks by walking through them. Similarly, it seems that the "best" """"""legit"""""" way to kill moder is to dig a hole and make sure the boss can't hurt you from there, making the fight either pointless - or unfair if you don't.
Idk if they changed anything but I killed moder recently and it was such a pushover. They could’ve made the fight little bit of a challenge but the fight only lasted 2 min.
This video should be removed,look for other solo Moder guides if you dont waste to a couple of hours on this "easy" boss... This method is the most ridiculous way to kill her,i got killed 4 times doing this,i have about 5 extra armours,10 bows,1000's of arrows,a messed up sunday morning.. Thanks a lot Kysen......
@@tonykeally1039 lol dude, meanwhile i killed her over 15 times with a lot less prep time, its a waste of yike digging these trenches and you cant dodge her atacks reasonable. Just grab enough flame arrows, stam pots, do a lot of dodging and do most dmg when she is landed, easiest boss to kill if you neglect this video. Have fun digging mate.
