Valkyrie Elysium Review - Noisy Pixel 

I really enjoy and appreciate you’re reviews-they’re concise but don’t skimp on detail and you also tend to review a lot of games that tend to get overlooked by many other reviewers.

This has become my favorite channel for game reviews. Critiquing games while not lambasting them for minor shortcomings is a narrative lacking in alot or other reviews and is both refreshing and welcome.

Good to see a review that's not completely trashing this game.

I would also agree with about a 7 or 8. I was skeptical at first because VP was already a cult classic with its original battle system but this game was a pleasant surprise it was really quite addicting, I actually wanted to keep on going which is a saying a lot for myself with games these days. The combat feels so good

*The original Valkyrie Profile is my all-time favorite RPG.* The main story was classic, but the game shined through the Einerjahrs backstories, which were dramatic, but well-written. The music as well as gameplay were exceptional as well. I've extensively played the demo of Elysium, but it felt completely bland in comparaison. I don't mind the gameplay change (turn-based to real time) but the levels and the game seem so... empty. And even the Einerjahrs seem like an after tought (as they were in Valkyrie Profile 2 on PS2).

The only good reviews are the one I’m seeing where the reviewer understands that this is a sequel that is going in a new direction, and aren’t expecting the gameplay of the classics. Thanks for the unbiased opinion for a change!

Seems like a fair review, i will buy it when the price drop a bit, since i have read is quite short for a JRPG. only thing i miss on this review is how story relate to old VP games... if it does...

My only problem with this game is it's too short, caused primarily by the lack of story. A huge chunk of the plot is hidden in text via the blossoms. There are few cutscenes and they don't flesh out the story. While people can say the soulsborne/elden ring series "lack" story and most of it are just texts in item descriptions, those games were huge so they don't feel short. I hope the november update with hilde playable will expand the story more. This game also could've gone a lot better if the stages were freely explorable instead of "stage 1, stage 2, stage 3..." that you have to run through again from the beginning should you wish to return.

I have seen such wired takes on this game, I enjoyed the demo mostly for the combat, but it wasn't good enough for me to drop full price on because the story seemed shallow and exploration was pretty limited...on a sale will strongly consider tho... Square gets a lot of points for all demos lately and I hope other devs jump on the trend.

The first fair review I've heard since this game has launched. Most other reviews thrashed it with some fair viewpoints though, however some a were too harsh. My biggest complaint is how short the playthrough is, the gameplay system along with the how you level up screams hours of gameplay, I really enjoyed the demo because of this but seeing how short you can complete it within just not even half of a day said wait till discount week. 6.5/10 for me

I always heard "einherjar" said like "on-hair-iar" Also this game is a mixed bag for me. The flaws can't be denied but the studio behind it, Soleil, only have like two games under their belt atm. Some Boruto game, and the Samurai Jack game. Plus apparently this game and the new Star Ocean game wasn't given a big budget, so low budget and new studio will have flaws and basic game. However you can feel some love put into the game in some spots (mostly after chapter 6) which I can't go into detail due to spoilers but to those whose who played the other 3 games will know.

A lot of people trying to tear this game down for no reason, and trying to make it the same as Babylon's Fall, which it's not. I think releasing at $50 would've sufficiently changed a few of the ratings bringing it down. Folks should play the available demo and decide whether it's worth playing, and if so, what price they're willing to spend.

About an hour in so far, and I’m pleasantly surprised. The OST also has no business being as good as it is. I love the art style too! No idea why ppl are hating on this game

Is there a way to get rid of that hit counter, or at least move it? That's placed so terribly it's actually impressive. Literally the entire top left of the screen is free. or you could have it semi-translucent, only pop up on hit or at set intervals. If not, I'll wait till the modding community gets to it.

Finally a fair youtube review Me and my friends are playing this since yesterday and we think it is a really good game. Not perfect but good. We are positively surprised. We were just talking about reviews trashing it and how they don't know what they are talking about. I'm gaming for 30 years and I've never seen such a storm of unfair reviews. We wonder if the do it for clickbait. The game is objectively good

This game is really fun. I got it on ps5 and am enjoying it very much.

I’m new to the franchise, ive never played any Valkyrie game before, I picked this up after playing the demo, the combat is what hooked me I love it. The graphics are a bit weak considering I’m playing on ps5 but that’s forgiven as the art style is makes up for it definitely glad I found this game.

always go for your review since u always plays japanese games or weird titles unlike other reviewers like pushsquare that always simp to big budget games and try to drag down japanese games ps love that hydra looking boss

How much does it cost? I think it looks pretty decent for a $39 (maybe even $49) title, because of the cheap feeling to it and lack of content, especially for a JRPG. If it's $59 or more, I'd definitely wait for a sale or just get the ones waiting on the wishlist. I'm disappointed because what makes this kind of games awesome is their storytelling and every critic agrees this game's one is its weakest point (along with the technical flaws, that could be patched soon).

€20 game in 6 months IMO.

I honestly didn’t have much hope for this game given how the developers used a name from greek mythology in a story setting based on norse mythology. I’m glad the gameplay seems good but i worry about how well written the story will be with a gaffe like that. Was Tri-ace too busy with the new Star Ocean? I did play Lenneth and Silmeria back in the day but this game feels a bit more Nier. Is there a rich cast of einherjar like the original?

Obligatory: Ein 'har' e 'har' This review was such a relief, the dull colours and change in combat were scary, but they seem to have been artistic choices rather than signs that the VP series was being repurposed to act as dust covers for bargain bins.

I didn't hear a word saying about story. Is it worth it?

First off, the game was made with a limited budget, so the lip sync issue is mostly due to the fact the game wasn't optimized to take advantage of Square-Enix's Western studios to reanimate those movements to fit multiple language options, unlike their bigger games. Second, it's a 3D game, so OF COURSE there's gonna be camera issues. This is a known issue for decades and even the most talented developers out there are still struggling with camera controls ever since the industry's initial shift to 3D. While the former will probable never be fixed, maybe they fixed the latter with all the latest patches and updates released after the game's launch. Even if those are still there, that shouldn't deter people, myself included, from playing the game. Behind all that low budget jank is a great reintroduction to a dormant IP that fans have been loyal since the original Valkyrie Profile and are still wanting more.

I liked the game, camera was not so good tho. But I suck, I cannot beat the seraphic gate. xD Died and reloaded my way trough the rest of the game tho. Seraphic gate is the only trophy I'm missing. xD

They just reused the old storyline and simplified it for this new title of game. I do agree some of the new features does brings the game looks good but it is still the same IP of valkyrie profile, using same storyline i would said their focus are wrong. Lack of details of each einherjar, no individual ultimate scene, the entire storyline in a rush.

Finally someone who hasn’t panned a decent to good game for no Damn reason! I agree with a 7 as well, it’s not quite as good as last weeks soulstice but it’s still fun and has an excellent combat system as well

Is Lezard Valeth or Brahms in the game?

1:50 why do so many reviewers mispronounce "einherjar"? Did you even play the game?! Lenneths voice actor literally says the word at the beginning of EVERY SINGLE non boss battle in VP1, and Maria says it every few minutes in Valkyrie Elysium. You hear it literally hundreds of times per play through. Einherjar. Eye-n-hair-yar. Now you try.

Glad they named it Valkyrie Elysium instead of Valkyrie Profile Nora… This game doesn’t hold a candle to the last original two; VP Lenneth and Silmeria.

I can put technical issues aside or artistic choices . Combat seems very good. What I can't get over is the fact that they charge 70 euros for a game that you can 100% in 25 hours (12 for main story) with no NG+ .

O think 7 is more fair, the game feels empty, it looks more of Stranger of Paradise clone than a VP game.

I played the demo the game seems good I'd say a solid 7.control layout character movement combat all good somehow I feel the story is the weak point.

"Ein har jar" you keep mispronouncing it and it drove me nuts. Otherwise good review.

I made a huge mistake and played thru mote than half the game on the hardest mode from the get go. Now it's too annoying to play cus I keep dying and I don't feel like learning the maps anymore. Also, I still find it strange how much she looks like an anime figure from behind.. but her face looks too realistic and just gross. She has the face of an old lady but the body of an 18 year old

Came for the review, stayed to see how many times I could stand hearing Einherjar butchered.

I sincerely don't understand why so many games cowardly abandon their roots. They go from a popular, yet dwindling playstyle( turn based ) to an over saturated, popular yet dull playstyle. SUUUCH a hard pass for me. It looks decent, but its such a departure I just couldn't support it.

I like the themes of the originals, but the battle system wasn't for me. Your description of the gameplay made it sound like Scarlet Nexus, which I liked.

Story is ok. Combat is good. Feels soulless

The series will disappear for awhile again after this. Didn't make a splash in Japan, so that's going to be it's fate. They probably will buy the port of the first game.

Weak overused cliche story. Bland environments that remind me Ps3 art style. Walking around grey areas breaking boxes all the time. Not Ps5 next gen, not even Ps4. Nice combat but nothing too innovative. All about elemental weaknesses block and dodge yadayada same old same old. It isn't hard. Its just annoying cause if something looks at you, you get stun and prone and need to wait a long arse animation to regain control of your character. Music is repetitive and brain melting to the point i had to mute it. Lip syncing is atrociously bad. It is not garbage like some say. Overall it's just "ok' so far. But 8/10 really? Is this ign lol. It ain't garbage but it aint very good either. More like mediocre 6/10

This game just looks SO BAD. The first two games were delightfully complex, had fantastic stories and unique art, and the battles were damn fun. I don't mind the switch to an action RPG, but the rest of the elements that made the game interesting seem to have been completely jettisoned

Look how freaking BORING the environments are

This doesn't seem like a $60 game. There are cheaper games that bring more than this. Another one on the pile to nonsense from Square Enix that FFXIV is paying for.
