Valley Line opens Nov 4, 2023! It's the final countdown!
Here's a quick tour of the new Churchill stop (Valley Line) and Churchill Connector into Churchill Station (Capital and Metro Lines).
Valley Line LRT is an light rail train service which switches between streetcar, separate grade, and dedicated off-road rail service. By design, it's internationally recognized to as a tram service.
Note that all points of boarding on Valley Line are called 'stops' except for Davies Station which is separate grade above ground.
The 13km Southeast portion was originally scheduled to open in December 2020. The $1.8 billion project will open nearly 3 years behind schedule.
In comparison, the 3.3km Metro line NAIT extension was originally underbudget at $665 million (outside of signalling correction costs) in 2015, and the entire extension of Capital Line from Health Sciences to Century Park cost $650 million in 2010.
Current Edmonton LRT projects and estimated costs include the Metro Line Blatchford extension at $328 million, Capital line Ellerslie extension at $1 billion, and Valley Line West LRT to West Edmonton Mall at $2.7 billion.
