I’m so glad Cathro pointed out the inefficiencies of the venue. I think this sort of critique adds depth to the coverage that most folks would never know. Some really stupid decisions were made by the event organizers. Cathro is awesome!
Even though this WC venue was a total clusterf**k you guys managed to put out excellent video's, kudo's to the whole crew. Looking forward to the next one. Peace.
Why would someone on the „PC“ or „Smartphone“ criticise Ben Cathro?! I dont get it! He is a world class Mountainbiker, his education videos about „how to mountainbike“ Are for me the best Videos ever made. He is full of passion and energy and such a strong character! Really sad about the hate everywhere. Thanks on the Team, Camera Team, Ben, the racers, the helpers, the Families for making this output possible! Much Love Sam from germany
To answer your question about a junior posting the fastest time, I’m pretty sure Cedric Gracia posted the fastest time at Worlds 1995, but Vouilloz was the fastest elite.
You forgot to mention how terrible that finish feature was...wiped out Remy in junior men and almost wiped out Finn. Bloody disgraceful 😤. The racing was awesome though and big ups to all the racers 👌
It wasn't great but that finish kinda made things interesting in a weird way. Like people losing time for 90% of the track then winning just based off the end section. Really made the race into a curveball which was fun to watch. Definitely not something you'd normally want though.
The clip of remy slamming that asphalt is a disgrace. There is no need for asphalt car parks to feature in World Cups, he’s extremely lucky to not have been seriously injured
Totally agree. I was with my 4 year old daughter and the organization was crazy. Very poorly organized. The circuit is far away, the road is saturated… a disaster 😭
Epic race in Vallnord for sure. Lots of crashes, but lots of good saves too. Good practice for Snowshoe cause it tends to be a wild n wonderful track as well. So stoked for Snowshoe this year since it will be my first WC race in person!
What an effort from this team, and how I appreciate the clips. I love the development, and the banter between cameraman and presenter was hilarious, as well as the outro and all the other small details. I feel that these clips are the best yet, and make me look even more forward to the next one.
From a spectators point of you, was a bit of a cluster f##k, took us nearly 3 hours from La Massana to track, queue for lift pass even though we booked them online, queue for gondola, 20 min walk for shuttle bus then queue to get on it then the pleasure of repeating it all returning, great exciting race though!!!
Temperature may have also had an effect on times with juniors vs. elite. Remember that your body can spend up to 70% of its energy just to regulate body temperature aka. cool down. What remains can be harnessed to... you know... throw down a race run. 🤷🏻
It looks like the smaller teams and the privateers had a hellish weekend. Pretty sure Lyle picked up some of the Pivot gang in one of their videos too. That shit can't happen again. At least you can look forward to Snowshoe and an event with rubber matting in the pits and not on track.
You'll be glad to know it's a pleasant low to mid twenties degrees back here in Scotland for when you get home...! Perfect riding weather to get out and unwind after that baws up. Someone needs their jotters for that pit fiasco, there is no sport where having your tools and supplies four K from base is acceptable.
“Bitter old fud” That’s some good Scottish terminology there. 😂 Unfortunately, I completely recognise that description in myself. Absolutely love these videos.
We were there, it was a sick race! We enjoyed very much, but.... As an expectator the previous track was much better!!! You jis had one lift to take to the start (free) now 3 (for 15€) the track didn't have many nice spots to stop at the woods and from finish to be back to town was an exausting trip with loads of people, ant the awards podium was in a different location so we didn't wait. Last track was so convinient in town with the podium.
Cathro, wasn't it Cedric Gracia whose junior time beat the elite mens back in mid 90's, at the world champs I think, by a decent margin too. Edit.. damn someone beat me to it, knew I shouldn't have made a brew before writing.
Anyone questioning Gwins ability is just out of the loop is all. Not only is he running a team, developing new tires with E-13, he's also spearheading the development of a new bike and racing said bike in the middle of a race season. Just one of the those things is a massive undertaking, just ask Ben, now imagine doing all of it simultaneously. When the team gets settled and bike gets truly dialed he'll be prime for another big run.
I'd love to see someone work out how much of an impact the rubber matting/bridges actually had on the top couple of runs. Especially that hideous finish line drop.
From a spectators perspective, the reason why this is the greatest sport of all (mountainbike racing in general is) is, that if you ride a bike yourself, you can put yourself in the position where it does not matter who wins, its always a great outcome if everybody gets their fair shot at it - the best woman / man and boy / girl of the day won! Isnt that great? And yet still you can root for individuals. Like today in men elite only, I had like 7 dudes I would have liked to see take it for various reasons - and its fine with me that Loris won because he laid down a clean scorcher and was clearly the best man down the hill. And basically the same goes for the women, only there Vali wasnt just the best, she really needed this clean win, because I was getting worried about her consuming herself with doubt. And these things can end careers before they reach their peak, which would be so unfortunate and tragic...
@BenCathro Vali got the fastest women's time on the old course in Les Gets. Finn has also got the fastest time on the hill when he was in juniors. Trying to rack my brain to remember what course it was on
Was a crazy race, Jackson, Loris.. and finally Vali didnt crash lol. I think the Brits were a bit out of their element in those conditions, apart from Jordan! Also nice to see Gwin back on it.
It’s bad when people make dumb mistakes and it effects them, but when it effects everyone, that’s even worse. I live just above the Florida / Georgia Line in the USA, and I thought it was always cool at the higher altitudes in the summer months. ( wrong )
Well done Ben and team. You guys really bring home the spirit of the event and keep us nicely up to date. I'm rather disappointed with the coverage that this sport gets from Red Bull considering how much sacrifice and risk is involved by its participants and their respective teams. Why do they no longer provide a digestible half hour recap of the runs and instead just the winning runs. It does nothing for the drama or pressure that would build throughout the event and hardly helps to promote the sport due to this. Anyway my rambling is over as I'm getting sore thumbs but what I meant to say was you are a legend and keep up the hard work laddie👍
Love Cathro, but you do have some athletes and Quinney who could help with the crazy number of vids coming out of each DHWC. Manager, racer, and 4 videos in a long weekend! Serious burnout is on the way!
Pitting from a gutter for a world cup, etc?!! That's absurd and sad. Hope they can learn from this. Otherwise great video and content, thanks Pinkbike and Ben!
Teams spend a fortune on the pit setup to showcase their brands, riders and bikes. Having the pits so far away is nothing short of disgraceful. Race weekend revolves around the pits for spectators and riders. This must have taken away from the festival vibe that most World Cups have.
j ai pas aimé l organisation ..s ils pensaient rentabiliser les caisses tiroir bin c foutu ! mieux refaire l ancienne world cup ou shappé de l autre côté ou le single commencal se trouve ..
