College is worth it. MBA is worth it. The only caveat is that the school has to be prestigious.

@Sherrell you could get a job but a lot depends on how much the MBA costs and whether it is worth it. Most people even after an mba need to pick up more skills like data analytics, programming etc to get hired. so that makes me question the value of the mba.

@DoughnationCreative Yes for undergrads the major. For MBA the school ranking. But for tier-1 finance/consulting jobs the undergrad rankings as well.

4 more years to pay the debt...? Thats nothing because the average age of people gettimg mba is around 30 and now days people will pive up to 80+ years. The benefit still exceeds the costs. The increased income after getting mba will influence 50 years of your life, which as a whole can be incomparable to the small increase in income from a lower tuition school.

Giving up 80-100k (salary+bonus) to go to an MBA program would be irrational for someone like me with a mortgage and two kids. I will attend a public university (CSU) to accomplish my personal MBA goal. If this boosts my salary to 120k, I'd be just as happy as the girl from Wharton
@duypham7411
@duypham7411 8 лет назад
+TheMorfin2011 You won't get 120k after getting an MBA from CSU
@Lifeafter40
@Lifeafter40 8 лет назад
wrong! your degree only gives you an edge for 2 years after that is your work and proven history of results. Oracle's VP of Benefits is a CSUEB graduate and many other VPs and CFOs around the Bay. If you go to networking events after graduation you will realize that there are plenty HENRYs that come from average schools and many elite srudents that are unemployed or in bankruptcy after a market crash
@Lifeafter40
@Lifeafter40 8 лет назад
+Duy Pham and by the way if you read my comment I already make 80k salary around 100k if you count my full compensation package (not including health insurance) So for me it's just a matter of getting my MBA. I'm already very well paid given the fact that I ONLY have an undergraduate. A change in jobs with an additional degree boosts your salary about 20%. Hence, upon completion of MBA I can expect to be at 120k.
@duypham7411
@duypham7411 8 лет назад
+TheMorfin2011 a few succesful people who didnt get a top MBA degree cant say for the whole world. I got my MBA from NYU Stern, and I have met many MBA alumni from the top 100 and their salaries are much different. In addition, the more years you are working post MBA, the much higher salary people who got their degree from top MBA receive. Foe example, 3 years after your MBA from top 15 programs can boost your salary from about 130k to 150 or 160k. But the top 100 may just boost from less than 100k to 110-120k.
@duypham7411
@duypham7411 8 лет назад
+TheMorfin2011 and you must know that many people who got MBA from an average program and get a lower salary than pre MBA. It often happens to who got a high salary with their undergraduate, especially for STEM people. A graduate degree doesnt mean your salary will be higher.

Its not just an MBA. If you go to a school like Wharton the expectation is that you and the CV including your experience to date would be showing that you are exceptional even in a class where everybody is nearly at the top of whats possible in their careers. In that case you are looking at least at a managerial role at FAANG and associates in the prime programs at Goldman and Centerview where the signing bonus is about USD 50k starting salaries in the USD 200k range excluding bonuses which could be more than your annual salary thats about north of USD 300k at least. That could make the cost of these programs return positive. Otherwise its going to be tough as these companies recruit you not the other way around - if you have to apply to them then ...But certainly getting this type of MBA is not the only route to success - it may even hinder that.

I need advice from experienced individuals who have gone through the MBA process. I recently graduated with a BA from Syracuse and the job market in Upstate New York has not been very kind. I was originally thinking law school, but the three years seems daunting. That one extra year in school and one less year in the work force seems very costly when you factor in average tuition rates. Is an MBA from a school ranked somewhere in the top 30-50 still worth it? My GPA was a 3.8, but my test scores have only been around the 50th percentile. I am hoping to attend either Rutgers, Pittsburgh, or Buffalo.

Dude don't go get an MBA - total waste of money. If you think the job market is bad what makes you think having an MBA and being in $100k of debt and having wasted two years of work experience is going to make it better?

I'm still in high school graduating next year. I'm really interested in majoring in international business, but i have a stuttering problem it makes it harder for me to give presentation in class. I'm very shy so can you guys please give me a advice on what to do?
@DavidTlovesAbby
@DavidTlovesAbby 7 лет назад
You can do it! First, focus on what your strengths are. Maybe presentations will be more difficult for you than others, but you probably also have areas where you can do much better than your peers. Second, practice makes perfect. Challenge yourself to speak up in school and elsewhere. Sometimes it won't go well, but keep at it and you will get better. Look into speech therapy if you aren't doing that already. Third, you will find that overcoming your challenge gives you a work ethic and self-confidence that people without your problem won't have. Good luck!

I'm an undergrad in finance and accounting. I don't see the need for an MBA to be honest. I understand that for people who don't have business related undergrads it makes sense. But for people who have business based undergrads, what's the point other than for salary increase? I'm troubled because I won't make it into a top tier MBA program. I've had a learning disability my whole life that I never knew about. I've since sorted it out. It was the reason why my grades were poor so far in college and why I've taken so long to graduate. However I'm an analytical thinker and have a very strong rational/logical side. Thus I feel I should have a career in problem solving within a business context. I fear that I'll hit glass ceilings for the rest of my life because I don't have certain letters after my name. It seems to me that these letters are more about the prestige than the actual knowledge and competence gained from their respective programs. Is there actually a study that can show a correlation between better performance from a bottom line perspective from having MBAs? I seriously doubt that an MBA makes one a better anything. I believe in the garbage in garbage out idea. An MBA won't make you a superstar anything. It's either you have it or you don't. Problem is the market doesn't see it that way. Such is life.
@egandunne7892
@egandunne7892 8 лет назад
+V12_Biturbo I agree with you withe the fact that an MBA isn't worth it, but don't let having a learning disability determine what you can and can't do. You are a normal person, you just learn differently. I have a learning disability too so i know how you feel. Bill Gates had a learning disability and look where he is. If you are saying "i can't do that" then you are selling yourself short before you even get started. I know having a learning disability is tough to accept, but it makes you unique in your own way. So good luck and the there is no limit to what you can do.

I just wanna say that our CEO has severe ADHD ,dyslexia, and other disabilities. He is extremely successful and great example to all if us. He didn't make it to any elite school, he attended a state University but his ideas are way better than those out of Standford. Hence, an MBA should be a personal goal. Take as such and don't let your learning define you. Good luck!

Look at low-residency programs from great schools (Kenan-Flager's MBA@UNC comes to mind) or PT and EMBA programs near you. You might be able to find something that gives you the leg-up of a top program but works with your life requirements. Indiana, RIT, UVA, USC, Minnesota, UTD, among quite a few others may also be worth looking into in regards to low-residency options which have a high placement/return.

Public accounting is great at developing technical accounting skills, but for someone interested in an analyst career, public accounting is almost useless. With public accounting you miss out on the essentials of operations finance, forecasting and market understanding. The technical accounting you need in a finance role can easily be picked up along the way. Plus, public accountants are grossly overworked and underpaid.

LMAO, old video. The people who attend those schools are already executives. You cannot compare these average statistics(stats 101). If you take the recent graduate right out of school and compare similar work experience, and then their MBA, the numbers are the same. 10 years sounds about right for most graduate level degrees and that is already an advantage. If you graduate around 25-27, by the time you are mid-level, 35-40, you have 25+ years of higher salaries than you were without an MBA. Do not let this video fool you, you just can't pay to win in real life sadly. The reason executives get their MBA is because when they become a higher position within a company, you need the 'respect' and 'social capital' required to make people listen to you. Or else you are just the dude who has a Bachelors with 20+ years experience lmao. There was a study that showed that graduates from top schools and lower end schools equal out in the salary after 10 years. (You will be able to Google this). Top school doesn't mean much, it just gives you a head start but if you care for those extra thousands $$$ over headache and debt, go for it.
