Until recently, track saws have been on the pricier side of the scale, making it an option for only serious woodworkers, willing to spend a few dimes. This SKIL 20V Brushless 7-1/4" circular saw not only offers brushless motor power, but you also have the ability to combine it with the new SKIL Guide Tracks.

Any idea if any other clamps fit that same track channel that the ones that came with the rails do?

You think this is good for job site usage? I have to say for 7-1/4 saw, it looks fairly small.

After Your Demo, I'd say this thing is huge bargain. For same money, or less, you get stronger more capable tool than the RYOBI track saw, and while the track is proprietary, then so is RYOBI's and know body likes it that's tried anything else. Anyways, I just watched This video because I couldn't find a video on the SKIL 6 1/2" circular saw, which is the one I want, and I'm probably gonna buy, and do my own opening, and review myself, since no one seems to have a video out on it.

If had a dollar for Everytime some asked me if I had a "SKIL saw" they could barrow.? I would have to clarify with them what they needed to use, but were too cheap or broke to be able to buy their own... Anyways, somewhere along the way, average people began referring to every circular saw as a "SKIL Saw." At least in my neck of the woods.

Is this a good circular saw for just someone wants to do some hobbies here and there?

That is EXACTLY who this is for. Same battery as their drill, driver, sander… and the rest of their power core 20 stuff. One battery system for the hobbyist (‘cause you ain’t gettin this thing through walnut all day).

Nice tool excellent value. If you run a 5 amp or more battery the saw will cut faster. Excellent product I wish it was available 2 years ago when I bought mine.

Despite what some say, in 2023 I think every new circular saw should track ready. Traditional track saws have their raison d'être, but if you’re just a weekend warrior looking to rip some sheet goods with a basic track saw then you shouldn’t have to buy an expensive purpose built track saw or mess around with non OE track saw conversion kits. I think Skil made a wise decision with this saw being ready to work with their tracks right out of the box. But then again, what do I know? One last question, it seems like you’re always hesitant to publicly state that Chervon, the makers of Ego and Flex, also make Skil. Is there a reason for this? Thanks for the awesome video!

I’m not knocking your opinion I don’t agree, but that’s just the difference of opinion. But my question is why now? The track saw has been out since 1980 so what makes 2023 the year of the traksaw. if the traksaw has been out for over 30 years, why are we seeing people say this over the last three months nowI? I suspect because even though tracksaw’s been out for 30 years, it’s relatively new to a lot of people, but for you personally what’s the difference now as opposed to the other 30 years that every saw should be tracks saw compatible now? They do have the Kraig rip cut and the Accu cut that hooks up to your standard circular saw.

@@steffendetrick First I’d like to thank you for a thoughtful, mature and honest reply. Thank you. Second I’d like to counter your question with a question and that is, can you think of any good reason why a modern circular saw introduced today shouldn’t be track ready out of the box? I’m quite confident it cost the manufacturer next to nothing to include this feature in the initial design and is a big value add for someone like me looking for an easy to use, affordable track saw for quickly and conveniently breaking down sheet goods. Also as near as I can tell the circular saw being track ready out of the box in no way alters the functionality of the basic tool design so it being track capable is not a detriment to someone who doesn’t ever plan on using the tracks. In addition to that it opens up potential new revenue streams for said manufacturer from selling their tracks as an extra part. In regards to your question as to why now in 2023, you pretty much answered it for me. Yes tracks saws aren’t new, honestly there seems to be nothing new under the sun, but they have become the new trendy tool and certainly saw of late. I merely used 2023 as a colloquialism for the modern era or last few years in which we live. As I said, with track saws currently being all the rage, why wouldn’t a manufacturer do this? Including this feature on a baseline circular saw doesn’t preclude them from making a high end, all the bells and whistles, super spendy track saw for those with the desire, need, or means to acquire one i.e. a professional carpenter or woodworker. To be clear I only meant including this feature on newly designed circular saws, not going back and retroactively adding this feature to already existing saws. In regards to the Kreig and Accu-cut add ons to turn basic saws into quasi track saws using an adjustable fence or even a real track saw using the Kreig tracks yes I know they exist. While I don’t own either of these add ons I have used the Kreig version. For sure they work ok but I think we can both agree they’re nowhere near as simple to use or setup as already having the track mountings on the tool itself thus requiring little more then purchasing and tuning the tracks. In addition to not being as convenient to the ready made saws and track system like Skil did here, I believe they’re more expensive then simply purchasing the Skil tracks. In the end for me at least it all comes down to cost, laziness, and performance of intended function. I’m lazy and broke and while I’m not opposed to purchasing high end tools, I do have a lot of Snap-On, Matco, and Milwaukee stuff, if I don’t need to spend big bucks on a high end saw, and don’t want to fuss around with aftermarket add ons and Skil’s option is accurate enough for my needs, then this is extremely appealing to me. I suspect I’m not alone in this. Looking forward to your reply!

Does anyone have any long term results from the batteries on these new Skil 20 volt tools? My old Ryobi tools came brand new with failing batteries. My Milwaukee drill is still running the same lithium ion battery that I purchased in 2009. I am really wondering if Skil used disposable "budget" batteries, or if they are using high quality lithium ion batteries with a long service life? If the batteries last 5 years, then these tools are an extreme bargain. Milwaukee batteries last at least 10 years.

I can vouch for the 12V Skil lithium packs as I purchased my dad a drill/driver and impact driver kit 3 years ago with a couple 2Ah batteries and they're still working like the first day

That is no tracksaw. It is just a circular saw. It can’t plunge cut, no knife it is just a circ saw that fits a track. Being able to plunge is one of the best features for a real track saw. There are TONS of real track saws. This has no reason to exist. Tons of conversion kits for circ saws already.

I have a cheep Wen track saw with the Wen track, and I also have the Bosch circular saw that has track compatibility, and I have to say, very very rarely do I need the plunge function. Yes, it is easier to set up for specific plunge debth, but not by much. And it is better to have a battery than corded one (What with the price premium), and be able to use one saw for everything. Besides, sometimes I need the full 7 1/4 depth cut. Still, if you have the money... :)
@steffendetrick
@steffendetrick Год назад
I could not agree more. This is useless. Not only that the shoe on that saw is almost nonexistent..
@steffendetrick
@steffendetrick Год назад
@@mak4374 the plunge feature is crucial on a traksaw. I don’t know in what capacity you use your traksaw? You typically want to set the depth of your traksaw to cut about an 1/8 deeper than your work piece. A majority of the time when you start your cut on a track saw the Saw is above the work piece not in front of the work piece for your saw to be in front of the work piece your tracks would have to be hanging over quite a bit. There are a lot of videos that can properly show you how to use your traksaw.
@mak4374
@mak4374 Год назад
@@steffendetrick, I know how to use it, I have been cutting with it for a couple of years all kinds of sheet and lumber. I am just saying the plunge function is not that critical most of the time, especially if cutting from the edge. Before I got the circular saw I thought the guard might hang up, but with the Bosch it is very smooth. Oh, yeah, and the Bosch circular saw I have has a plunge mechanism, so...But like I said, if you can afford both, yeah, of course specialized tools are always better.

If you want some kickback in your life plunge away rookies. If you want the best cut start it set to depth get you blade going on the over hang and cut away. Even with the green machine that's the best practice. That's why they made their cordless with a kickback feature because plunge cutting runs that risk.
