It was in no way unusual at the time not to have fuses but this would not be legal now. Either the circuit is wrong, or they found that they needed 1 grid-stopper on the OP valve to stabilise it, but not both which was probably done to cut costs. Unusual but believable. The output must have been quite low as triodes wonder why they did that, seams an odd thing to do!

There would be little requirement for more than two or three watts from a player like this. Most small players would have a single valve giving the same output with a magnitude more distortion than this triode push pull stage. Low distortion would be the design motivation for this model, as it had in design, thoughts of quality performance. There is no other reason. Later models took advantage of ultra linear operation and would have a full six or seven watts at the same distortion levels.
