Doesn't the valve cover bolts tighten to a certain torque spec?
@DanielLopez1994

Yes they do! I've checked online with some service manuals and found the torque for the top bolts to be tightened at 7.2 ft-lbs

I'm just trying to paint my valve cover do I have to change everything or can I just get it painted and then put it back on ?

dj shaze it depends on the condition of your gaskets, as you see in my video my valve cover gasket tore when I was removing the valve cover, luckily I was already gonna change it. When you paint your valve cover make sure you prep! I had to repaint mine a second time because I did not sand down properly and remove contaminants like grease or oil. I did paint my valve cover weeks after I made this video I wish I would have recorded it.

Fuzzybarrel4563 what did use for prep
@DanielLopez1994

dj shaze I wet sanded with 80, 120 and 400 Grit sandpaper until any dings were removed. Then I finished with an 800 Grit, making sure all of the scratches were gone. Then I used dish soap and hot water to remove all the dust and/or any grease I may have put on. I used RUST-OLEUM Specialty Metallic it is almost like a mirror finish but after I added RUST-OLEUM Painter's Touch clear coat it looked even better for me. First pass was a light coat then waited about 5 minutes and kept adding (in intervals) heavier coats until I had about four or five layers. I did paint while inside a garage to prevent the air from blowing leaves or debris onto the valve cover. I did use a face mask. Edit: I did leave the valve cover to sit and dry for a couple of days since I was not driving the vehicle at the time. So if that's for your daily I suggest leaving it for the weekend project that you don't move your car. First time I painted I was not patient and left finger marks all over and simple things like the spark plug wires would scratch the paint. Second time the valve cover sat in my garage for about a day and a half, still looks good today!

dj shaze sweet! Well preparation should be the same when it comes to sanding and cleaning the valve cover. When you start to paint the only difference I believe would be to use masking tape to separate the colors. You can paint the entire valve cover White, once the paint has dried completely you can then use masking tape and newspaper to cover 2/3 of the valve cover to get ready for the next color, then using the 800 grit sandpaper scratch the uncovered part of the valve cover that will be green, then make sure to clean it before you paint, and repeat the process for red
