Thought I should say this. Beat saber has an ingame saber tailor. You don't need the mod anymore. But the mod is still better in customization wise. But the in game fixes the issues you stated. (From what I have heard from friends who use index controllers) just letting you know :)
@@mellowmanta8975 I'm still waiting on the full kit ;-; But from what I heard, you can mimic the wands placement if you do wish, it is finicky but there are placement tutorials or shall I say numbers, on reddit and other places, it also helps to spend some time to mess around with it to get it where you're comfortable with. Hope this also helps :3 And keep in mind, this is coming from someone who plays beat saber pretty much religiously. So I was also worried when I heard the words "saber placement is very off and feels weird" stomach dropped. But then realized what saber talor was for. But then they added the in game adjuster. Soooooo, that helped me with my doubts. Now I cant wait! cause I heard the index controllers are amazing for beat saber mainly cause you can relax your hand while playing thanks to the controllers gripping your hand and not letting it slip off! So I'm excited! :3
9:42 "You can also purchase Index controllers when they eventually reduce in price" 3 years later and Valve STILL won't budge on their price lol. Awesome review though! I think this video was the final push for me to buy a pair of Index controllers.
8:37 Its count dooku's lightsaber xD I came here wondering the difference between the two controllers and as a index owner i absolutely love that they decided to go with this style instead of an upward slant, it feels so good in beatsaber and to anyone out there wondering what VR headset you should get, if you can afford it i highly recommend getting the index (its worth the wait). Valve is trustworthy and have amazing customer support when it comes to RMA's. Best controllers on the market and probably will be for years to come, gaben is the man and valve is still the top dog when it comes to reinventing the gaming industry.
Oh! So we are just gonna leave out the awesome oculus touch controllers? Everyone does this and i think they need more respect because they are different in many ways from the Valve Knuckles and the HTC Vive wands
@@lucashenriques4242 no? the headset and controllers use base stations to track them and the controllers wouldnt be seen anywhere except for in a headset
Great review, being a VIVE owner and first seeing these controllers first announced made be slightly jealous and when it was confirmed you could use them with the VIVE it felt like a necessary upgrade but I’ve been waiting for a video like this to pop up. After watching this i think you’ve helped make my decision in purchasing these. Like you said you get Half Life with these which actually makes the price of these come down to 200 in reality.
Im a owner of a HTC Vive Pro and i want to buy the valve knuckles since months does anybody know where I can buy them single without the Valve set Edit: oh I’m stupid it’s in the Description xD but thanks for this really good video 🙏
Valve index controllers are better than the vive for beat saber because of weight distribution. This is well known in the beat saber community, but thanks for the vid. It helped!
I have the wand 2.0 and just bort valve index controllers for 1107 I'm in NZ so new Zealand doesn't sell them controllers so I had to buy off eBay from USA but again my friend had the 1.0 wands and he was losing tracking like crazy and he was like rank 8000 and now he got valve index and he's 2000 something in the world I'm 3888 at the moment and my tracking for the wands I reckon play good with every game but beat saber with jumps and pog maps it's tough very heavy and my wrist bursts in pain from the speed and it can't keep up with the speed I passed the hardest rank song SC sacrifice that heavy metal song and I got 59 with the wands pretty pround to finally pass it never fort I was gonna be able to any time soon but with me with my wands some days tracking is good and others it lets me down well for easier songs tracking is hella good it's ranked like 13 to 16 star songs that start to be a problem I can still pass at times but it makes me miss notes at times where I see I cut through but says I miss and it does this alot lol it's likenmy controllers have there own mind I don't feel like cutting this block today ohh I will cut all the other ones so u get one miss so annoying but like for any other game I love the wand controllers I also use bgrip so flip controller upside down and put two fingers in the hole of the controller and then I have alot of grip also my grips are wearing out like keep getting lose fornthe wand controllers 9nky ever a probeom in beat saber on really really fast maps
Super helpful and insightful! I bought the Vive Pro back in November and really enjoy it, but the knuckles tech for the index looked really tempted. Initially I was planning to sell the Vive and get a full index kit before I discovered that they are compatible, but now that I know this and have heard great advice on their quality I'm putting in an order for just the controllers right now. Now to sit back and wait the expected 8 weeks
Hope they come quicker than expected! I've seen some success from some other people in this comment section haha. I'm happy you enjoyed the video! - Aaron
@@TopSpecMedia Judging by your explanation in the video, your right it does seem like a light annoyance at first for a newcomer. However I tell myself to remember that wherever you point your thumb, it's where the blade will shoot out. So you can either treat it like Count Dooku's lightsaber or as others have pointed out adjust the blade angle on Beatsaber
I was preorder group (HMD + controllers). Total update to vive experience was good and for vive pro fov and audio+mic was better. If you are still using original vive recommend to make HMD update if you have good computer :)
No question about it. You should. I do still prefer the Wands for very specific games. I actually use them for Beat Saber cause the Index feels off (yes even with the adjustments) and the vibration is way stronger in the Wands.
Got a free vive from my brother when he upgraded to the Index, the only caveat was the wands with the vive were kinda janked, and the touchpads glitch out sometimes. They still work decently well for most games, but I'm so hype to buy some index wands, and eventually an Index =D
Thanks for the video. I was finally able to place an order from valve yesterday. Btw they were called knuckles in development but officially called the index controllers.
I just did a video about battery replacement on my ru and eng channels. Speaking of longevity. My batteries died in 2 years and Valve refused to change them or help with a battery.
Valve doesn't call it "squeezability", they're just using terms the general population would use instead of coming up with some fancy, tech name for it XD Oh and a curved lightsaber isn't unnatural. Just look at Count Dooku's sabers.
I had to purchase index controllers separately because wands were designed by some stupid deepshit who was designing only TV remotes for his entire life and completely has no idea wtf VR is!!! 1st. Wands shape sux! It can slip out of your hand when you are swinging a sword or something like that. More to that they added grip buttons right in a perfect places to accidentally press them when you try to hold the wand harder! Fuckin great! 2nd. Menu button is in a perfect spot to accidentally press it when you are in the middle of some ass situation... you try to pull out a gun and there ya go...god damn menu is in your face! Specially sweet when the game doesent pause during that! One of my wands literally started to fall apart after a month of use.. first its power button got stuck... not physically... some shit with the flex cable! Ive fixed that! A week after trackpad stopped working. Now upper menu button stopped working. I never hit it against anything and cannot be rude with it because of those bitchass button placements... So I had enough of that wonderfull HTC tech and decided to move to Index controllers right away. And I'm talking about 2.0 wands! And people still have issues with the trackpad button on those... which means that HTC didnt do shit in order to improve those other than painting them blue instead of black! The funniest thing is that i moved to HTC Pro right from the PSVR... and I find PS Move controllers more comfortable to use than HTC wands... considering that PS Move was introduced back in 2009, its a freakin JOKE. Bottom line... Best helmet - HTC...best controllers - Index.
As a owner of both the index controllers for 1 ½ years and unfortunately a user of the vive wands temporarily as my index controllers are beeing RMA'd, here's thought: Index controllers clearly win in comfort, gaming time and overall all points to the index controllers, but they are extremely sensitive, will break easily, like the thumbstick sensor broke on me even tho ive been extremely carefull with the latest set ive gotten from valve, but other than that, valve's RMA process is pretty good, they are very good with replacing faulty products and are very nice with the communications etc; As for the vive 2.0 controllers, there's only one thing i can vouch for them'; the durability, they won't really ever break cause they are built like tanks, but the way they are used in games like VRChat is so weird to use; but you'll get used to it i guess;
I dont think so. Look at reddit valve index there is plenty RMAs of knuckles. Just canceled my index order today because for 1 000 € i want some reliable hardware and their good support for RMAs is just not excuse. They should adress this and do some kind of hardware revision. Still there is 8+ weeks to ship so maybe wait for HP reverb G2 or Oculus quest 2 has leaked on bloomberg and rumors are that it will have better refresh rate, FOV, and full finger tracking so with link and more decent price that could be new index killer. But nothing is confirmed untill oculus connect 7 conference.
@@larry6582 too bad for a flagship device. Valve ignores that thing , unbelievably! So i think: the hardware for Valve is impossible without mistakes. Steam machines, Steam controller and Valve Index too((( too bad!!!
i've been playing Index for about a year, moving over from the original oculus rift. the Index is much better, but the controllers SUCK!!!! I hate them. constant screen shot popups freezing me in game, constant Steam menu popups freezing me in games. constant thumb cramps trying to use the left thumbstick. i'm thinking about tyring the VIVEs to see if they are any better.
HTC does sell pre-owned vives. But they are usually labelled as (Certified Refurbished) aka those which had some defect, got sent back, htc repaired it and decide it to resell it. I bought such a Vive kit, a Cosmos Elite (Certified Refurbished) it was cheaper than a brand new but works just like a brand new, got no issues with it except these damn Vive Wands, I really dont like how it feels in my hands. Clunky af. Im planning on getting a pair of Index "Knuckles" since from what I saw so far from this and other vids it has quite a nice grip and feel.
Haven't tested fully yet, i do know that my 2016 vive controllers last for around 5h but my newer controllers that came with pro 2, i would belive they last well over 10h with gameplay, depending on the game? I would love to have index controllers (pro's and con's for both when it comes to VRChat) but they're not available in my country :
i got the valve index controllers and it is amazing so much better than vive wands no more accidental pressing and uncomfortable controllers + climbing feels amazing
yeah the knuckles are just great, grabbing stuff by actually grabbing it feels super natural - e.g. guns in pavlov I just hope the stick drift issues are actually fixed I wish there was a wireless kit for the index though, that's a big plus that the vive (pro) has
i have a question so im looking to get into pcvr and i have a tight budget of $230 and on offer up which is a website where you can buy and sell stuff and i found some htc vives in my price range so should i get a htc vive or save up for a newer pc vr headset??
I just upgrade my Vive controller to index and I'm not regretting it holy cow it was amazing especially when sleeping in vrchat cuz I usually found my Vive controller on the floor after I woke up but now index solve that problem
Best controllers are Oculus Touch, im fucking eating crow right now. Knuckles are aweeesome until you get sweaty and need to regrab the front grip to your light machine gun and get killed because your hands are too wet to detect. COMPLETE NOGO. Still buying a 2nd pair lol
I have to say that I love the wands compared to the rift controllers when it comes to gun range sims like Lethal VR. The trigger pull has a tighter action before the actual click. Also the thicker grip, nice haptic feedback and the added weight make it feel more like you are holding a hand gun. I am not sure how this is gonna feel with the Index. Also saber games like Sariento make me feel like I am holding a hefty weapon. The base station tracking of course is second to none. I luv my wands and today they go for a measly 40 bucks a peace.
My Vavle Index controllers are used with an HTC VIve. My controllers sometimes stop working and the icons pulsate in the Steam VR Window. Any thoughts?
I just changed my grip on the index controllers for beat saber. I use what I call a cutlass grip. Basically I hold the grip so the knuckles part of the controller goes over the front of my hand like a hilt on a cutlass sword. It seems to work for me.
You're opinion is yours and i respect that but about most of the people i know in the beat saber community say that index controllers are better because they are light weight.
Great review! I'm a OG Vive pre-order'er batch 1 back in 2016 and was a pre-order first-batch for Index. Everything you stated was spot-on! Would be great to also mention for those looking into a used OG Vive to make sure to get v2 wands (blue strap) which have been around for about a year now. The v1 wands had tons of issues with the trackpad pad getting worn out. I've got 7 of these fuckers sitting around and only one of them is in working order, while my blue strap v2's have been heavily used in the Onward league and are yet to have a single issue.
You might not see this since this video was posted over a week ago now but this video is GREAT compared to the amount of subscribers you have. My brother has nearly 1K subs and his videos look nothing like this
Quick question, where can I buy the valve index controllers, and the controllers only? I have an htc vive and it works great, but my vive controllers stopped working about 2 days ago. Can anyone help?
Agreed that it bugs me to no end how wand/sword/paddle games just can't get the Index controllers right out of the box. I used to love Racket Fury (ping pong) on the Oculus and when I swapped to the Index it feels like the paddle is angled way too far forward just like the Beat Sabers. STILL no support out to fix that compatibility issue in Racket Fury though it looks like Beat Saber adjusted it.
So basically when I got my tax return, Quarantine started, I was planning on getting the index but low and behold, it was sold out. 8+ week waiting list, not to mention price gougers sweeping the whole internet of every games system out there, I was reluctantly forced into buying the vive elite. I like it so far I haven't had any problems with it except 3 major gripes. The bases are the old version 1 bases and not the updated ones. HTC is shipping this bundle with the old Vive wands [they should have upgraded them by now, they've had a giant lead]. and last one is the cable comes loose from the headset relatively easy if you flip up the display frequently. I don't know if the last one is because I'm just being too rough or its just not built secure enough. All I know is I was freaking out when my headset kept going grey screen every time I adjust my view. It took a few days for me to learn the cable can be disconnected from the headset itself. So I unplugged it and re-plugged it in. It seems to be fixed but it would be better if this wasn't an issue to begin with.
It is certainly a premium pricetag, but I would consider the fact that half life: alyx is bundled with the controllers. This makes each controller cost closer to $100, which is a more "fair" price for VR controllers. VR is still an emerging technology and the index controllers are the best controllers out there and the price reflects that. I love the controllers and they've significantly improved my immersion in all of the games I've tried them in. - Aaron
I have to save up for them. but i think it will be worth it. But the fact that you have to wait 2 months to get them. Thats a really long time to wait when its quaranten
Thanks for the review! (Subbed!) Been thinking about getting these for a while, but lack of "finger" compatible games is a bit off putting. Any idea if VTOL VR supports index finger tracking?
Well it is Nov 2022 and for the Index hand controllers, some say the Index Controllers are also not that durable. I just purchased the Valve Index and also wanted to get the base stations setup and working in case I want to jump to another VR headset that uses this tracking. My hand controller interactions are very minimal, since I do mainly SIM Racing and sitting down. My prior VR headset is still the Rift S and works great for what I do in VR.
For me it wasn't worth it. 300€ for a pair con controllers? No way. I got the HMD upgrade, as I already own the original Vive, I got Index, but no way I'm paying 300 for a pair of controllers that seem to break easily. Anyway, I mostly use my Reverb nowadays, cause it has a much better screen (twice the number of pixels).
